The Helio G81 is modestly ahead in the available aggregate benchmark results, but it is not a major change in platform: both chips share the same published Mali-G52 MC2 graphics and a similar eight-core CPU design. The benchmark figures are not from matched phones, and MediaTek’s G81 page gives conflicting clock speeds for its efficiency cores. For buyers, the phone’s full configuration matters more than the chipset name alone.
Helio G70 vs G81 specifications
| Specification | Helio G70 | Helio G81 |
|---|---|---|
| CPU | 2× Arm Cortex-A75 up to 2 GHz; 6× Cortex-A55 up to 1.7 GHz | 2× Arm Cortex-A75 up to 2 GHz; 6× Cortex-A55 listed at 1.8 GHz in MediaTek feature text and 1.7 GHz in its specification table |
| GPU | Arm Mali-G52 MC2, up to 820 MHz | Arm Mali-G52 MC2, up to 820 MHz |
| Memory support | LPDDR4x, up to 8 GB; maximum frequency 1800 MHz | LPDDR4x, up to 8 GB; maximum frequency 1800 MHz |
| Storage | eMMC 5.1 | eMMC 5.1, per MediaTek’s specification table |
| Connectivity | 4G, Wi-Fi 5, Bluetooth 5.0 | 4G, Wi-Fi 5, Bluetooth 5.0 |
| Maximum listed display resolution | 2520×1080 | 2520×1080 |
| Listed video encode/decode capability | Up to 2K at 30 fps | Up to 2K at 30 fps |
The key specification caveat is the G81’s Cortex-A55 clock: MediaTek gives two values on its own page. The discrepancy does not establish which clock a particular phone uses in practice. Both chips are 4G platforms, not 5G chipsets. The listed display and media limits describe platform capabilities; they do not mean every phone using the chip includes a panel or camera that reaches those limits. What the benchmark scores show
NanoReview’s 2026 comparison reports higher aggregate scores for the G81 in the listed tests. The differences are relatively modest in the CPU-focused Geekbench results, while the AnTuTu comparison appears to show a larger lead. These are database aggregates, not controlled tests of two otherwise identical phones.
| Benchmark | Helio G81 | Helio G70 | Reported samples and qualification |
|---|---|---|---|
| AnTuTu 11 | 357,879 | 317,084 | NanoReview, 2026: 26 G81 samples and fewer than 3 G70 samples. The page describes the G81 result as about 13% higher; the G70 sample count makes that comparison especially uneven. |
| Geekbench 6 single-core | 432 | 417 | NanoReview, 2026; sample counts are not separately stated for this specific result in the supplied comparison. |
| Geekbench 6 multi-core | 1,416 | 1,345 | NanoReview, 2026: 10 G81 samples and 76 G70 samples. |
The Geekbench figures point to a small G81 advantage in those aggregates. Sample counts differ by test, and the devices contributing scores may vary in cooling, memory, storage, software and power settings. Treat the results as directional evidence, not a promise that any G81 phone will outperform any G70 phone. The figures and methodology context are on NanoReview’s Helio G81 vs G70 comparison.

Do not merge results from different benchmark versions or ranking pages as if they were one standardized head-to-head. AnTuTu’s separate SoC ranking lists G70 and G81-Ultra as different entries and reports totals that do not match NanoReview’s AnTuTu 11 comparison. The benchmark version and source need to stay attached to any score.
What the differences mean for gaming and everyday use
On paper, the chips have the same GPU model and peak clock, as well as a closely related CPU layout. That makes the G81’s benchmark lead a reason to consider it, not proof of a large real-world jump. Gaming performance depends on the handset’s cooling, memory, display resolution, software and the game’s settings and version. NanoReview includes a G70 game-results example from a Realme C3, but it is not a matched comparison against a G81 phone; its frame rates should not be used to predict a G81 device’s results.

MediaTek describes the G81’s HyperEngine as managing CPU, GPU and memory resources in response to power, thermal and gameplay factors. That is a vendor description of the feature, not independent evidence that a specific G81 handset will sustain a particular frame rate. Likewise, MediaTek’s characterization of the G70 as suitable for mainstream users and mobile gamers is vendor positioning rather than benchmark evidence.
How to choose between G70 and G81 phones
Compare the actual phone models and regional versions rather than choosing on chipset alone. NanoReview lists the Motorola Moto G05, Tecno Spark 40, Redmi 14C and Infinix Hot 60i among phones using the G81; this list does not establish current prices or availability in every market. Quick Recap
- Memory and storage: Confirm installed RAM and storage type/capacity on the exact configuration; chipset support limits do not tell you what the manufacturer fitted.
- Screen: Check panel resolution and refresh rate. A higher resolution can also increase the graphics workload.
- Battery and thermals: Look for model-specific evidence if long gaming sessions matter; chipset specifications alone do not establish battery life or sustained performance.
- Software support: Compare the manufacturer’s update policy for the exact model and region.
- Network compatibility: Check the phone’s supported LTE bands against your carrier. Both chipsets are 4G-only in this comparison.
- Camera implementation: Compare the phone’s actual sensors and camera software rather than relying on platform capability ceilings.
- Local price and variant: Compare the complete configurations sold in your market; names and specifications may differ by region.
