Helio G36 Leads G25 in Specs and Benchmarks, but Only Modestly

The Helio G36 has higher listed CPU and GPU clocks and broader memory and display support than the G25. Benchmark aggregates favor it, but small sample counts and phone-level differences matter.

The Helio G36 is the faster-clocked chip on paper, but it is a modest step within the same platform family rather than a fundamentally different design. Both use eight Cortex-A53 CPU cores, PowerVR GE8320 graphics and a 12 nm process. The G36’s listed CPU and GPU ceilings are higher, and it supports more memory and a higher-resolution, faster-refresh display. Available benchmark aggregates also favor it, but their small, uneven sample counts do not establish how much faster one phone will feel.

Helio G25 vs Helio G36 specifications

MediaTek’s specifications show the G36 ahead on several maximum supported figures, while the underlying CPU and GPU families, storage standard and listed wireless generations are shared. These are chip-level capabilities; phone makers choose the actual RAM, screen and other components.

What the specification differences mean

CPU and graphics clocks

Both processors use the same named CPU core family and GPU. MediaTek lists the G36 at up to 2.2 GHz CPU and 680 MHz GPU, versus up to 2.0 GHz and 650 MHz for the G25. That gives the G36 higher peak clock ceilings, but the figures alone do not predict a fixed performance gain in every phone or workload. The official G36 specification identifies an octa-core CPU but does not provide a per-core frequency arrangement in the cited specification.

Memory and display ceilings

The G36 platform supports up to 8 GB of memory, compared with up to 6 GB for the G25. These are maximum supported capacities, not guarantees that a phone will ship with that amount. The G36 also has a higher listed display ceiling—up to 2400 × 1080 at 90 Hz—while the G25 page lists up to 1600 × 720. A handset may use a lower-resolution or lower-refresh-rate panel regardless of the chip’s ceiling.

Connectivity and storage

The official pages list eMMC 5.1 storage, Wi-Fi 5, Bluetooth 5.0 and 4G LTE support for both. Neither cited product page describes a 5G modem. The listed connectivity and storage standards therefore do not distinguish the two chips on these specifications.

Benchmark comparison: G36 leads the reported aggregates

NanoReview’s comparison page reports the following results. The figures are third-party aggregates, not manufacturer guarantees or results from a controlled test of otherwise identical phones.

The small and unequal sample counts make these directional evidence, not a reliable estimate of the speed difference between two specific phones. NanoReview’s component results do not all favor the G36, either, so the aggregate scores should not be read as a win in every task.

Why benchmark scores may not match a phone you use

A chip is only one part of a handset’s performance. Results can vary with phone firmware, cooling, memory and storage configuration, screen resolution, battery policy and benchmark version. A high-resolution screen, for example, can impose a different graphics workload from a lower-resolution one. Comparing two phones by chipset name alone cannot isolate those effects.

For a useful real-world comparison, look for results from the same phone models and compare their RAM and storage configurations, rather than treating an aggregate chip score as a promise about everyday responsiveness or gaming.

Which chip should you choose?

If two otherwise similar phones use these chips, the G36 has the stronger specification sheet: higher listed CPU and GPU clocks, greater maximum memory support and a higher display ceiling. The benchmark aggregates cited above also lean toward the G36, especially in multi-core Geekbench 6, but their sample limitations do not justify a precise expectation for a particular handset.

When choosing an actual phone, compare the complete device and its price in your region: RAM and storage, screen panel, battery and charging, camera implementation, software support and independent results for that exact model. The chip’s maximum supported features do not confirm which components a manufacturer has installed.
