Heartworm’s story: grief leads Sam to a mountain house
Sam is struggling to move on after her grandfather’s death. An online forum points her toward a house in the mountains said to have supernatural properties, and she goes there hoping to contact the other side. The premise brings grief and the search for answers into a horror setting without establishing that the house’s claims are true. The official Heartworm site describes the game as a psychological survival-horror experience.

How the gameplay and controls work
Nintendo describes exploration and classic puzzles alongside limited combat: Sam uses a camera to defend herself. The listed perspectives include cinematic fixed cameras and over-the-shoulder aiming, giving players two distinct ways to view encounters. The Switch 2 listing also includes optional classic tank controls alongside a modern control scheme.

Retro presentation is adjustable
The developer’s site describes low-resolution retro 3D and cinematic fixed-camera horror. Nintendo says pixelation and other retro effects are optional, so the throwback look is not presented as an unchangeable visual setting.
How the inspirations are framed
The developer names Silent Hill, Resident Evil and Dino Crisis as late-1990s survival-horror inspirations. That is the creator’s stated lineage, not a claim that Heartworm plays identically to those games.

How long is Heartworm on Switch 2?
Nintendo estimates 4–6 hours of gameplay and lists multiple endings. That figure is the platform listing’s estimate, not an independently measured completion time; the listing does not specify how the estimate changes with exploration or ending choices.
