No reliable Microsoft source establishes that only one Control Panel dialog remains. Microsoft documents Settings pages for many Windows features and specific cases where Settings has replaced a Control Panel function, but it does not publish a complete, build-by-build inventory of dialogs still left behind. The more accurate answer is that Windows Settings has taken over many tasks while Control Panel paths remain documented.
Why the “one dialog left” claim isn’t settled
Microsoft’s Settings URI catalogue lists destinations across categories such as Apps, Devices, Network & internet, Personalization, Sound, System, Time & language, and Update & security. That shows how broad Settings has become; it is not a complete comparison of every Control Panel dialog against an equivalent Settings page.

Microsoft also documents individual migrations rather than a universal replacement count. For example, its Win32 guidance on renaming network adapters says Settings has replaced the Control Panel function for that task on Windows 11 and Windows Server 2025. That specific statement does not mean Settings has replaced all Control Panel functionality.

The distinction matters: a particular task may have a modern Settings route even while a Control Panel applet or legacy route remains available for other tasks. Microsoft’s network-adapter guidance illustrates this. It says the right-click rename method in Control Panel has an elevation-prompt issue marked “won’t-fix” for Windows 11 and Windows Server 2025. The same guidance describes a Control Panel button labeled “Rename this connection” as a workaround, while pointing to Settings at Network & internet > Advanced Network Settings for renaming.

- Design: Sleek desktop tower with black color and slim profile for modern look
That is evidence of a migrated function, a retained workaround, and a specific version scope—not proof that an entire Control Panel dialog has disappeared. The same Microsoft guidance says manual tests for this task should look at Settings, in the context of adapter renaming only.
Useful Settings destinations Microsoft documents
Microsoft’s URI catalogue provides direct destinations for several common areas. Enter a URI in the Windows Run dialog (Win+R) or use it from an app that launches Settings. Availability and behavior can vary with Windows version, device, or whether the feature is present.
| Task or area | Settings URI |
|---|---|
| Apps & Features | ms-settings:appsfeatures |
| Network & internet status | ms-settings:network-status |
| Sound | ms-settings:sound |
| Display | ms-settings:display |
| Troubleshoot | ms-settings:troubleshoot |
These URIs are entry points into Settings, not a one-to-one map proving that every older Control Panel option has an equivalent there.

What users and administrators may see
The visible Control Panel experience can depend on policy. Microsoft documents policies that hide selected Control Panel items and a separate policy that blocks Control Panel and PC Settings programs from starting. Consequently, an item missing from a particular work or school PC does not by itself establish that Microsoft removed it for all users.
For policy details, see Microsoft’s Control Panel policy configuration service provider. Restrictions are administrative behavior, distinct from feature migration or removal.

The available Microsoft sources do not establish a complete retirement date or a final remaining-dialog count. Microsoft’s general deprecation documentation explains how deprecated Windows client features may later be removed, but it does not identify Control Panel itself as deprecated or set a removal date.

A Microsoft community Q&A answer says there is “no set date yet” for completely removing Control Panel. That is a community support response, not a formal Microsoft roadmap commitment; it should not be treated as a guarantee that Control Panel will stay or a schedule for its removal.
How to assess a claim about a remaining dialog
Any claim that a particular dialog is the last one should identify the Windows build and date, name the specific applet or task, and distinguish an equivalent Settings function from a full replacement. Administrative policy can also affect what appears on a given device. Without that scope and a comprehensive inventory, “only one left” is more precise than Microsoft’s documentation supports.
