What changed in Pandora packaging?
The clearest documented shift began in 2021, when Pandora announced new retail packaging for stores and online. The company said carrier bags would contain no plastic and that plastic content in jewelry boxes would fall by more than 75% compared with its previous packaging. It also said the new boxes used fewer materials and were easier to recycle. Pandora’s 2021 announcement said the paper used was FSC-certified.

Pandora reported that the redesigned boxes had over 60% lower greenhouse-gas emissions than the boxes they replaced. In its 2021 Sustainability Report, the company estimated that the changes would reduce the carbon footprint of jewelry boxes by 3,600 tonnes of CO₂e per year—around 1% of Pandora’s total emissions at that time. These are company-reported comparisons and estimates from 2021, not independently verified current measurements.
How did the packaging evolve after 2021?
Pandora’s 2025 Annual Report describes additional work: adjusting package sizes, optimizing the assortment for a more unified customer journey across channels, and deprioritizing higher-impact creative elements in favor of lower-impact materials. The company says the aim is to preserve the brand experience while reducing packaging’s environmental impact, especially carbon emissions.

The report describes progress rather than announcing a precisely dated global launch of one replacement box. Pandora’s sustainable packaging page frames the task as balancing product protection, brand experience and sustainability, with design, procurement, store operations and sustainability teams involved. The 2025 report says no new packaging-specific target was set that year; Pandora planned to investigate suitable targets in 2026.
Why might the box you receive look different?
The 2021 rollout was phased. Pandora said the new bags and boxes were available in the US and most stores in Europe and Asia at the time, with other areas to follow during 2021 and 2022 as existing stock was used. That historical rollout statement does not establish which packaging is currently in circulation at any particular location. The later adjustments also do not amount to a published market-by-market inventory, so packaging may vary by market, channel, order and remaining stock.

What does Pandora’s US online gift packaging include?
Pandora’s US store currently describes gift packaging as an optional physical service. Its gift-packaging page lists an individual jewelry box, a 100% recyclable gift bag and an optional printed message. For orders without gift packaging, multiple items may be grouped in one box without a bag or note. This is a US-store description; it should not be assumed to apply to orders in other countries or through other retail channels.

Pandora’s reported figures show the scale of the company’s stated 2021 changes, but the sources cited here do not provide independent validation of those specific plastic or emissions claims. The later report documents continued design and assortment work, not proof that every customer now receives the same packaging. In its 2021 announcement, Chief Marketing Officer Carla Liuni said the design had been tested with some customers and received “highly positive feedback” for design, protection and recyclability; that is Pandora’s account of customer feedback, not an independent study.
