Halo campaign co-op depends on the game. In The Master Chief Collection (MCC), Combat Evolved and Halo 2 support two players, while Halo 3, ODST, Reach, and Halo 4 support up to four. Halo Infinite supports up to four players online, with no campaign split-screen. Halo: Campaign Evolved supports up to four online and two-player split-screen on Xbox Series X|S and PS5, according to Halo Support. Platform compatibility differs too, so check the game-specific details before inviting friends.

This comparison separates campaign co-op from multiplayer. “Up to” indicates the maximum campaign party size, not a promise that every listed platform combination works together.

Can you play Halo campaign split-screen?
MCC: two-player campaign split-screen on Xbox
MCC supports local campaign split-screen on Xbox, not PC. Halo Support specifies two connected Xbox controllers for the campaign setup. Although MCC can accommodate more local players in some modes, campaign split-screen should be treated as a two-player option; more than two split-screen players are limited to Multiplayer.

Halo Infinite’s local split-screen applies to competitive Multiplayer on Xbox consoles, not Campaign. To play the campaign together, use Network Co-Op online.

Can Xbox and PC play Halo campaign together?
MCC: do not assume campaign cross-play
MCC supports Xbox/PC cross-play generally, but its campaign and Campaign Playlists are excluded from the standard cross-play support described in the quick-start guide. Halo Support’s April 2022 update separately called PC/Xbox campaign co-op experimental for Halo 3 and Halo 3: ODST. That dated, title-specific exception should not be generalized to the other MCC campaigns—or treated as a guarantee that it is available in every current build.

Infinite and Campaign Evolved: online cross-play
Halo Support describes PC/Xbox cross-play for Infinite Network Co-Op. Campaign Evolved’s listed online platforms are PC, Xbox Series X|S, and PS5, with cross-play and cross-progression through a linked Microsoft account. Cross-play applies to online play; it does not add PC split-screen.
