Plan a few short reveals, challenges, or audience decisions that have a clear beginning and payoff. Twitch says Stream Recaps are automatically created from clips made by the streamer and editors during a broadcast; review and edit a recap in Creator Dashboard → Stream Summary.
What Twitch Stream-o-Ween 2026 offers
Twitch announced Stream-o-Ween for October 1–31, 2026. Its eligible categories are Horror Games, Sea of Thieves, Hunt: Showdown 1896, Just Chatting, IRL, Art, Music, DJs, Food & Drink, and GRWM. Eligible creators can select the Stream-o-Ween event tag in Stream Manager and/or OBS while retaining their usual category. The event page offers a chance to be featured, not guaranteed placement. Check Twitch’s current Stream-o-Ween page for event details; categories, featured programming, and eligibility can change.

Match the format to your setup
YouTube supports mobile, webcam, and encoder streaming. A dedicated webcam is optional: YouTube says creators do not need expensive equipment to begin. Pick the workflow that suits the activity and what you already have, then confirm that the picture, sound, lighting, and framing make the show easy to follow.
Checklist before going live
- Give chat a specific job. Decide whether viewers will vote, submit prompts, solve clues, or choose an option, and explain how you will collect responses.
- Leave network headroom. YouTube recommends keeping 20% room beyond the total stream bitrate. Use a reliable connection and check outbound capacity before the event.
- Test the complete setup. Set up an encoder well ahead of time if you use one, test camera, lighting, and audio, preview the output, and confirm the stream is accessible on mobile. Monitor sound and video once live.
- Plan moderation. Decide who can remove disruptive messages and how you will handle personal information or inappropriate chat. YouTube’s safety guidance advises protecting personal information and blocking or reporting inappropriate chat.
- Review rights and platform rules. Check permissions for music, game footage, guest contributions, costumes, and special effects. Twitch prohibits unauthorized music and streams exclusively focused on extreme or gratuitous gore.
Twitch safeguards if you expect a traffic spike
For its 2025 Fright Fest, Twitch recommended AutoMod level 2, email and phone verification, followers-only mode for at least 10 minutes, and preparing Shield Mode for activation if needed. These were event-specific recommendations, not universal requirements. Choose safeguards that fit your community, and consult Twitch’s current guidance before enabling controls that could limit participation.

Horizontal, vertical, and post-live discovery
Twitch recommends considering Dual Format to serve horizontal and vertical viewers in one stream. Its June 17, 2026 Dual Format announcement reported that 70% of new viewers were coming to Twitch on mobile; that is Twitch’s platform-reported figure, not a forecast for any individual channel. Verify feature access and setup before scheduling around it. For clips and post-live discovery, remember that Twitch Stream Recaps draw on clips created by the streamer and editors during the broadcast.
