Guns of Eschaton System Requirements and PC Performance Settings (2026)

Guns of Eschaton needs 16 GB RAM, DirectX 12, an SSD and at least a GTX 1070 or RX Vega 56. Here are the official specs, upgrade priorities and settings fixes for low FPS.
Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Guns of Eschaton requires a 64-bit Windows PC, DirectX 12, 16 GB of RAM and an SSD. The official minimum target is built around a Core i5-8600K or Ryzen 5 2600X with a GTX 1070 or Radeon RX Vega 56; the recommended tier rises to a Core i7-9700K or Ryzen 7 3700X and an RTX 3070 or Radeon RX 6700 XT. The full game is planned for 2026 and is not yet available on Steam, while the free standalone demo released on October 5, 2026.

This guide explains what those specifications mean, how to check your own PC, which graphics settings to change when performance is poor, and why the experimental field-of-view slider can alter the game’s balance. No official frame-rate targets or resolution-specific benchmarks have been published, so the requirements should be treated as compatibility and hardware-class guidance rather than a guaranteed FPS promise.

The demo is described as a standalone taste of the full project, not the opening chapter of its campaign. Performance in the demo can therefore reveal whether your PC handles the technology, but it should not be read as a complete representation of every area, enemy encounter or late-game system in the finished release.

Guns of Eschaton is presented as a first-person soulslike shooter set in an apocalyptic Western. Its systems include solo and co-op progression, PvP, more than 20 weapons, build customization, consumables and an enemy-study codex. Those mechanics explain why stable frame pacing matters: aiming, dodging and reading enemy weaknesses all depend on consistent input response.

Official Guns of Eschaton system requirements

The following specifications come from the game’s official Steam listing. Both tiers require a 64-bit version of Windows 10 or newer, DirectX 12, 16 GB of system memory, 45 GB of free storage on an SSD and a Windows-compatible audio device.

Component Minimum Recommended
Operating system 64-bit Windows 10 or above 64-bit Windows 10 or above
Processor Intel Core i5-8600K or AMD Ryzen 5 2600X Intel Core i7-9700K, AMD Ryzen 7 3700X, or higher
Memory 16 GB RAM 16 GB RAM
Graphics card NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1070 8GB or AMD Radeon RX Vega 56 GeForce RTX 3070 8GB, AMD Radeon RX 6700 XT 12GB, or higher
Graphics API DirectX 12 DirectX 12
Storage capacity 45 GB available 45 GB available
Storage type SSD required SSD required
Audio Windows-compatible audio device Windows-compatible audio device

The minimum and recommended graphics cards occupy noticeably different performance classes. In practical terms, the minimum tier is a baseline for launching and playing on supported hardware, while the recommended tier leaves more graphics and frame-time headroom. That is an interpretation of the listed hardware, not a measured FPS result.

  1. Confirm Windows architecture. Open Settings → System → About and look for a 64-bit operating system. The listing does not specify 32-bit support.
  2. Identify the processor. In the same About page, or in Task Manager’s Performance → CPU view, compare your model with the Core i5-8600K/Ryzen 5 2600X baseline and the Core i7-9700K/Ryzen 7 3700X recommended tier.
  3. Check installed memory. Task Manager’s Performance → Memory panel should show at least 16 GB. Having less can create paging and stutter even when the graphics card is fast enough.
  4. Check the discrete GPU and VRAM. Use Settings → System → Display → Advanced display or the GPU section in Task Manager. The minimum cards listed have 8 GB of VRAM; the recommended AMD card is listed with 12 GB.
  5. Verify DirectX 12. Press Win+R, enter dxdiag, and read the DirectX Version line. Windows 10 or 11 does not automatically guarantee that an older or unsupported graphics adapter can run a DirectX 12 game.
  6. Reserve SSD space. Keep at least 45 GB free on the SSD where Steam will install the game. Leaving additional headroom is sensible for updates and temporary installation files, although the listing only states the 45 GB requirement.

If your hardware falls between the two published tiers, there is no official table that predicts a particular frame rate. Treat the GPU as the first comparison point, then assess CPU headroom and memory. The publisher has not stated a target resolution, frame-rate target, ray-tracing requirement or cost for individual graphics options.

What the CPU and GPU tiers imply

Processor considerations

The minimum six-core Core i5-8600K and six-core Ryzen 5 2600X indicate that the game expects a modern desktop-class CPU rather than an entry-level laptop processor. The recommended Core i7-9700K and Ryzen 7 3700X move to a higher performance class and provide more margin for busy scenes, background tasks and multiplayer overhead. These are hardware-class comparisons, not a promise that every processor with a similar name will perform identically.

Graphics considerations

A GTX 1070 or RX Vega 56 is the stated floor. The recommended RTX 3070 or RX 6700 XT is substantially faster, so a card near the minimum may require a lower preset even if the game launches successfully. The official page does not require ray tracing, and it does not publish separate 1080p, 1440p or 4K targets.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Memory and VRAM

Both official tiers specify 16 GB of system RAM, so adding memory beyond that is not an official requirement. The listed VRAM figures are 8 GB for the minimum NVIDIA and AMD examples, 8 GB for the recommended NVIDIA example and 12 GB for the recommended AMD example. Actual texture use and performance depend on the final build and selected settings; no per-option VRAM budget has been published.

Fixing low FPS or an overly demanding preset

The developer acknowledged that graphics auto-detection could incorrectly place many lower-end PCs on the Epic preset, resulting in low FPS. The initial workaround was to select a lower preset manually. A later hotfix stated that auto-detection had been corrected and recommended either choosing the preset that best fits your PC or resetting the game to auto-detect.

Use the manual preset workaround

  1. Launch the game and open Settings.
  2. Select Graphics.
  3. Choose the Low or Medium preset instead of leaving an incorrect Epic selection in place.
  4. Apply the change, then return to the same menu after a restart to confirm that the selected preset persisted.

The developer’s wording specifically recommends Low or Medium for better performance when detection has chosen an unsuitable level. Do not assume that moving every individual slider to its lowest value is necessary; begin with the preset, then make one change at a time so you can identify which adjustment matters on your system.

Reset auto-detection after the hotfix

  1. Open Settings → Graphics.
  2. Use the option to reset or re-run auto-detection if it is available in your build.
  3. Apply the detected preset and test the same scene or activity again.
  4. If performance remains poor, select Low or Medium manually and keep the setting that produces stable input response.

Because the game is still in development, a future update can change how detection behaves. Record the preset that works before updating so you can quickly restore it if a patch changes your settings.

Choosing a field of view

The developer describes the FOV control as experimental. It ranges from 75, the default, to 90. Guns of Eschaton was designed and balanced around the default FOV, so changing it is not a purely cosmetic adjustment.

What changes when FOV increases

  • A higher value shows more of the world at the edges of the screen, which can feel more comfortable for players who dislike a narrow view.
  • Objects and enemies occupy fewer screen pixels at the same distance, which can make targets appear smaller.
  • Visual issues, level layouts, encounters, enemy placement and perceived difficulty can change because the game was tuned around the default.

A practical FOV method

  1. Start at 75 and play a representative section of the demo.
  2. Increase the value in small steps only if the default feels restrictive or causes discomfort.
  3. After each change, check aiming, close-range encounters and whether enemies are easier or harder to read.
  4. Return to 75 if geometry, encounter timing or difficulty feels inconsistent with the intended design.

There is no developer-published “best” value beyond the default design target. The right choice is therefore a comfort decision with gameplay consequences, not a guaranteed performance fix.

A sensible PC comparison checklist

When comparing a desktop or laptop with the official tiers, use all of the following rather than relying on a single GPU name.

Check Why it matters What is officially stated
CPU tier Influences simulation, draw-call handling and frame-time headroom. Core i5-8600K/Ryzen 5 2600X minimum; Core i7-9700K/Ryzen 7 3700X recommended.
GPU tier and VRAM Usually the largest factor in resolution and visual-preset headroom. GTX 1070 8GB or RX Vega 56 minimum; RTX 3070 8GB or RX 6700 XT 12GB recommended.
System memory Reduces paging and background-task pressure. 16 GB for both tiers.
Operating system Determines 64-bit and API support. 64-bit Windows 10 or newer.
DirectX support Required for the game to initialize its graphics API. DirectX 12.
Storage An SSD is required, not merely optional capacity. 45 GB available on an SSD.

If a listing for a prebuilt PC gives only a vague “gaming” label, ask for the exact CPU, GPU, VRAM, RAM and drive type. Integrated graphics are not identified as supported by the official requirements, so do not treat a modern CPU’s integrated GPU as equivalent to the listed discrete cards.

Troubleshooting beyond the preset

  • Game starts but stutters: confirm the installation is on an SSD, close unnecessary background applications and verify that Windows is using the intended discrete GPU on a laptop.
  • Auto-detection selects Epic: use Settings → Graphics → Low or Medium, or reset auto-detection after applying the developer’s hotfix.
  • Settings revert: apply the preset again, restart the game and check whether the change persists before testing other variables.
  • GPU appears compatible but the game will not launch: verify 64-bit Windows and DirectX 12 support with dxdiag; the listed GPU model alone does not prove API compatibility.
  • Performance differs between the demo and expectations: remember that no official FPS, resolution or graphics-option benchmarks have been published, and the demo is not the full campaign.

Change one setting or system variable at a time and test the same location. That approach separates a preset problem from a CPU, GPU, storage or background-process limitation.

What is not known yet

The official requirements do not state a target frame rate, target resolution, ray-tracing mode, minimum VRAM as a separate rule, laptop-equivalent processor list or performance cost for individual options. No official benchmark table maps specific GPUs to FPS. Any article or video that promises a particular frame rate should identify independent testing conditions rather than presenting that number as an official guarantee.

As development continues toward the planned 2026 release, requirements and optimization can change. Re-check the Steam listing and developer announcements when the full game launches, especially if you are deciding whether to upgrade hardware solely for this title.
