GuardianKane’s second build turned a PRD-to-task planner into a broader verification and orchestration system. Its twelve phases added review gates, evidence checks, scope controls, and dashboard features—but, in Abhinav Pangaria’s account, much of the work was wiring GuardianKane to data and capabilities that Kane CLI or existing hooks already provided. The build’s reported passing tests cover GuardianKane itself; they do not show that applications built through its workflow are correct.
How GuardianKane changed across three eras
First: turn a PRD into tasks
Pangaria describes the original GuardianKane as a planning tool. It generated a task tracker with task IDs, titles, PRD references, and dependencies. It did not verify whether a completed task was actually done.

Then: add a verification gate
The next era added Stop and PostToolUse hooks, making GuardianKane part of the coding workflow rather than just its planning stage. Pangaria also describes scripted replay, defect sweeps, bug memory, an installer, and four paired experiments in this earlier version. He reports that the project placed second in the TestMuAI Kane CLI hackathon.
Finally: expand into orchestration and a dashboard
The third era began with a dashboard and grew through twelve numbered phases. GuardianKane took responsibility for orchestration—tasks, phases, the verification gate, and dashboard—while Kane CLI handled the claim graph, coverage, reconcile, and explanations. Pangaria says an audit found cases where GuardianKane duplicated Kane CLI functionality or failed to call capabilities that were already available.

What the twelve phases added
Pangaria’s phase list describes a system that expanded from review and verification into controls and dashboard visibility:
- Use-case review gate: a review step before test generation.
- Acceptance-criterion evidence: evidence attached per criterion, with tamper detection.
- Phase model: a way to organize work into phases.
- Context injection: project context supplied to the workflow.
- Live scope guard: a guard intended to track the files or claims within scope.
- Gaps panel: coverage gaps made visible in the dashboard.
- Review card: a dashboard review surface.
- Reconcile-powered sync: Kane CLI reconcile used to sync changes rather than a hand-written PRD-diff implementation.
- Trace panel: a dashboard view of recorded activity.
- Stuck-task panel: visibility into tasks that had stalled.
- File-level task lock: a warning when work overlapped at the file level.
- Combined final phase: browser review, PRD graph, quick generation, an evidence viewer, and Playwright export.
Why Pangaria calls the second build “wiring”
The label points to integration work: exposing existing data and commands in the places where the workflow needed them, rather than rebuilding every capability from scratch. Pangaria’s examples include reusing file-touch records for the scope guard, trace, and task-lock features; surfacing a coverage-gaps command in the dashboard; and replacing a hand-written PRD-diff implementation with Kane CLI reconcile.

He also describes a fresh-install failure: test design could fail when a use case had not been reviewed. Phase 0 addressed that path by adding a context-review approval command. In the author’s account, the fix was not simply to generate more tests; it was to ensure the workflow had the approval it needed before test generation.

The design principle Pangaria draws from this work is concise: “before adding collection, grep for what is already collected and never read.” It is a useful distinction for any tool that accumulates event records, coverage data, or task history: a missing dashboard view does not necessarily mean the underlying data must be collected again.

What pull-based verification changes—and what it cannot guarantee
Pangaria describes the v2 approach as pull-based. A person, or later the Stop hook, selects code-graph nodes whose claims should be tested. That is different from broadly generating tests and then treating the resulting run as proof of completion.
Targeting selected nodes can make the scope more deliberate: the workflow has an explicit target for verification. It does not establish how thorough the tests are, whether they exercise important edge cases, or whether the application as a whole is correct. Pangaria puts the distinction this way: “What v2 guarantees is that verification is aimed at something a person deliberately pointed at, not that any given run is rigorous.”

What the reported tests establish
For his 2026 article, Pangaria reports rerunning the system with 36 test files and all 460 tests passing. Those are author-reported figures for tests of GuardianKane’s own code. They indicate that the reported GuardianKane test suite passed in that rerun; they are not an independently confirmed measurement and do not demonstrate that applications built with the workflow are correct.

- An evidence check used the wrong field.
- A runner trusted a CLI exit code over a structured verdict.
- Dashboard chat did not respond as expected.
- Dashboard rendering had stored cross-site scripting (XSS).
These are findings and fixes as Pangaria reports them; they are not independent confirmation of the underlying logs, code, or fixes. They nevertheless illustrate why a passing test count must be read in context: it describes a particular suite for a particular project, not a general guarantee about every workflow run or application.
Limitations exposed by the implementation
Pangaria’s account also records places where a feature’s visible promise was stronger than what its implementation could enforce:
- Scope state and graph rebuilds: the live-scope flag was stored separately from graph status because a graph rebuild could overwrite it before dashboard polling caught up.
- Incomplete trace events: the trace did not record Read, Grep, Glob, or Bash events because the hook exited for tools other than Edit and Write.
- Warning, not enforcement: the file-level task lock warned about overlap, but did not block an edit before it happened; Pangaria says there was no PreToolUse hook to enforce that lock.
These qualifications distinguish visibility and guidance from enforcement. A dashboard can show a scope or warn about a lock without guaranteeing that the underlying workflow prevents out-of-scope edits or conflicting changes.
