Short answer: X Money is the product that offers an account and payment features; ChatGPT Finances connects financial data so you can review and reason about it, but it cannot move money or pay bills. Neither comparison is quite what “Grok payments vs. ChatGPT payments” suggests: the reviewed sources do not establish a general payment feature inside Grok, and ChatGPT Finances is not a payment account.
What “Grok payments” and “ChatGPT payments” mean
X Money is X’s payment product, not a general Grok feature
X describes X Money as a financial account with direct deposit, bill payment, wires, mailed checks, instant payments to other X users, and an X Card. Its product page does not establish that Grok is the interface for initiating those transactions. A narrow exception is the Grok Bot Template Rewards pilot: eligible recipients may need an X Money account to receive rewards. That does not make payments a general capability of the Grok assistant.

ChatGPT Finances analyzes linked information, but does not transact
Finances in ChatGPT connects financial accounts through Plaid and can separately connect credit-report data through Experian. It is designed for dashboards, summaries, and questions about finances—not for holding funds or executing transactions. OpenAI says it cannot move money, pay bills, change account settings, or make trades.
OpenAI lists the feature for users in the United States on Free, Go, Plus, and Pro plans, on web, iOS, and Android. Its May 2026 announcement described support for more than 12,000 financial institutions at launch; connections and availability may vary. The help page does not specify a separate Finances fee, which is not the same as saying every eligible account has no subscription cost.

Payments and card terms
X says direct deposits may arrive up to two days early and describes instant payments to other X users as “free and with no limits.” It also advertises bill pay, wires, mailed checks, and an X Card accepted wherever Visa is accepted, with no foreign transaction fees. These are product-page claims; check the current account terms for eligibility, limits, and any fees that apply to a specific transaction.
For ATM operator fees, X says Premium and Premium+ subscribers receive unlimited reimbursements. Other users may be reimbursed up to $4 per transaction for up to two transactions per month. Reimbursement is not the same as an ATM being fee-free at the point of use.

APY and cashback are conditional
X states that its advertised APY was accurate as of July 27, 2026, and may change. Premium+ users qualify for 6.00% APY; other users may qualify for a boosted 6.00% with qualifying direct deposits. Subscription, jurisdiction, qualifying deposits, and other terms matter. New York residents do not receive APY, interest, or interest boosts on stored-value accounts.
X also advertises up to 3% cashback on eligible X Card purchases for Premium and Premium+ users. Other users may qualify for boosted cashback up to 3% after at least $1,000 in qualifying deposits over a trailing 34-day period. Fees may affect earnings. These are not guaranteed returns for every user or purchase. X’s page compares its 6.00% figure with the FDIC’s 0.38% national average savings deposit rate as of July 20, 2026; the figures have different availability and conditions and should not be treated as a universal like-for-like offer.

Stored-value accounts and FDIC coverage
X identifies Cross River Bank, Member FDIC, and participating insured banks in its cash-sweep explanation. It says funds are insured up to $250,000 at Cross River Bank and that the sweep program may provide up to $10 million in aggregate pass-through coverage across participating banks, subject to conditions. X Payments LLC is not an FDIC-insured bank; deposit insurance applies to the failure of an insured bank, not to X itself. Read the current account terms and coverage conditions on X Money before relying on the advertised maximum.
What financial data each service can access
ChatGPT Finances: account connections and deletion controls
OpenAI says connected Finances accounts can provide balances, transactions, investments, and liabilities, while ChatGPT cannot see full account numbers or make changes to those accounts. The service follows the user’s general ChatGPT model-training settings. Users can disconnect accounts; OpenAI says synced account data is deleted from its systems within 30 days, and data associated with the ChatGPT connection is deleted from Plaid within 30 days under Plaid’s policies.
Rank #4
Disconnecting does not remove financial information already present in conversation history. Financial memories are separate and can be viewed or deleted. See the OpenAI announcement and Finances help page for the applicable controls and details.

Grok privacy depends on whether you use it on X
The SpaceXAI privacy policy covers its websites and apps; it says Grok use on X is governed by X’s privacy policy and terms. X’s Grok help page describes controls to opt out of using Grok interactions, inputs, and results for model training and to disable personalization. Feedback and use of Grok-powered X features can have separate effects. X says deleted conversation history is removed within 30 days unless retention is needed for security or legal reasons.

X Money’s transaction privacy details are limited on its product page
X Money says its account uses passkeys, custom transaction limits, and advanced privacy controls. The product page does not provide a detailed account of how transaction records are used, shared, or retained. Those security statements alone are not enough to compare X Money’s transaction-data privacy with ChatGPT Finances; review the full account terms and applicable privacy policy before connecting financial activity to a service.

Keep account-connected financial analysis separate from agent-initiated shopping. The Associated Press reported on June 10, 2026, that Visa had embedded its payment network in ChatGPT for agent-initiated purchases, allowing users to link Visa cards for potential purchases at merchants that accept Visa. AP said OpenAI and Visa did not disclose the collaboration’s financial terms or fees. It also reported that OpenAI retired Instant Checkout in March after merchants did not widely adopt it and found its merchant fee too high. This reporting does not make shopping a capability of the ChatGPT Finances dashboard, nor does it establish broader current availability; see the AP report.
Quick Recap
Which one fits your task?
- To send money, pay bills, or use an account-linked card: X Money is the product in this comparison that advertises those functions, subject to its U.S. rollout and account terms.
- To review linked balances, spending, investments, liabilities, or credit information: ChatGPT Finances is the analysis tool, but it cannot execute a payment or account change.
- To use Grok itself to initiate payments: the reviewed sources do not establish a general native Grok payment workflow.
- To compare privacy: first specify whether Grok is used standalone or on X, then compare the actual data flows and controls. The available product descriptions do not support a single overall privacy winner.
