Gravity: HUSKYLENS (SEN0305) — An Easy-to-Use AI Vision Sensor

The original Gravity HUSKYLENS SEN0305 runs seven built-in vision functions and reports results over UART or I2C, with an onboard display and button-based setup.

DFRobot’s Gravity HUSKYLENS SEN0305 is a K210-based vision sensor for projects that need common visual-recognition functions without building the entire computer-vision pipeline on a separate controller. It can recognize or track several kinds of visual targets, show its view and settings on a built-in screen, and send results to a host through UART or I2C. It is a practical starting point for maker, robotics, and education projects—but its documented features do not guarantee accuracy or reliability in a particular environment.

What the original HUSKYLENS does

The SEN0305 is the original K210-based Gravity HUSKYLENS. DFRobot lists seven built-in functions:

As an Amazon Associate I earn from qualifying purchases.

  • Face recognition
  • Object tracking
  • Object recognition
  • Line tracking
  • Color recognition
  • Tag recognition
  • Object classification

The sensor runs these functions on its Kendryte K210 processor. A host controller can receive results—such as position data—over UART or I2C, rather than having to implement the vision algorithm itself. DFRobot provides Arduino and micro:bit examples, and lists Raspberry Pi among compatible controllers. Compatibility does not mean every board has the same wiring, voltage requirements, library support, or setup process.

How the learning and control workflow works

HUSKYLENS combines a 2.0-inch IPS display with buttons for selecting functions, teaching the device, and adjusting settings. The screen provides a way to inspect the camera view and device state; the button-based workflow avoids requiring a computer for every basic interaction. After selecting a function, the user can use the learning button to teach the sensor what to recognize or track. The host controller can then use the output in a project—for example, reacting to reported target position.

Seeed Studio XIAO ESP32-S3 Sense Board with Camera & Microphone
  • Powerful MCU Board: Incorporate the ESP32 S3 32-bit, dual-core, Xtensa processor chip operating up to 240 MHz, mounted multiple development ports, Arduino / MicroPython supported
  • Advanced Functionality: Detachable OV2640 camera sensor for 1600*1200 resolution, compatible with OV3660 camera sensor, integrating additional digital microphone
  • Great Memory for more Possibilities: Offer 8MB PSRAM and 8MB FLASH, supporting SD card slot for external 32GB FAT memory
  • Outstanding RF performance: Support 2.4GHz Wi-Fi and BLE dual wireless communication, support 100m+ remote communication when connected with U.FL antenna
  • Thumb-sized Compact Design: 21 x 17.5mm, adopting the classic form factor of XIAO, suitable for space-limited projects like wearable devices

This is a simpler entry point than implementing the vision algorithms on a general-purpose board, not a guarantee of plug-and-play operation. A complete build still needs suitable power, correct connections, compatible host code, and testing against the project’s lighting, distance, motion, and target conditions.

Specifications and power planning

Item DFRobot specification for SEN0305
Processor Kendryte K210
Image sensor options OV2640 / GC0328
Supply voltage 3.3–5.0 V
Host interfaces UART and I2C
Display 2.0-inch IPS, 320 × 240 resolution
Typical current consumption 320 mA at 3.3 V or 230 mA at 5.0 V in face-recognition mode, with 80% backlight and fill light off

These are manufacturer-published specifications, not independent measurements. In particular, the current figures apply only under the stated face-recognition and display/light conditions. Budget the project’s supply for the sensor’s operating demand and check the controller’s power limits rather than assuming a signal connection also provides adequate power.

Configure the connection before integrating a project

The K210 setup guide lists UART baud rates of 9600, 115200, and 1000000, as well as I2C and automatic protocol detection. The guide’s language options for this model are Chinese and English. Settings are selected with the function button and must be committed using “Save & Return.”

  1. Choose UART or I2C to match the host controller and the example or library you intend to use.
  2. For UART, set the same baud rate on the HUSKYLENS and host; the guide lists 9600, 115200, and 1000000 baud.
  3. Use the function button to select the required settings, then choose “Save & Return” so the changes are saved.
  4. Wire the sensor and controller according to the documentation for both boards, paying attention to supply and signal-voltage compatibility.
  5. Start with DFRobot’s relevant Arduino or micro:bit example and confirm that the host receives the expected output before adding application behavior.

Is SEN0305 a fit for your project?

The original HUSKYLENS is most relevant when a project can use one of its built-in functions and needs the result delivered to a controller over UART or I2C. Its onboard display and button-operated learning and settings make it approachable for classroom demonstrations, prototypes, and robotics builds where a full software vision stack would be unnecessary overhead.

  • Consider it when one of the seven documented functions matches the task and a supported host interface fits the controller.
  • Check your setup carefully when power is constrained, the target environment differs from your intended use, or the controller needs particular voltage levels, libraries, or wiring.
  • Look beyond this model if you need custom model deployment or advanced functions not listed for SEN0305. Do not assume newer-generation features are available on this device.

DFRobot’s product page currently displays $34.90 for the K210 camera, but price and stock can change; check the listing before purchase. The separately listed silicone-case version is SKU SEN0305-S, not SEN0305, and its displayed $38.40 price is likewise subject to change. Confirm the exact SKU and included accessories when ordering.

Do not confuse it with HUSKYLENS 2

HUSKYLENS 2 is a separate generation, not another name for SEN0305. DFRobot identifies it as a K230-based product and describes touchscreen operation, more than 20 built-in models, additional capabilities such as instance segmentation and hand/pose recognition, and custom model deployment. Those features belong to HUSKYLENS 2’s documentation and should not be attributed to the K210 SEN0305. Compare the exact model and SKU against the functions, interfaces, software path, power needs, and packaging your project requires.
