Graveyard Keeper 2 Autopsy: What to Remove for Burial or Zombies

Inspect a corpse before operating, choose burial or zombie use first, and treat exact autopsy thresholds as provisional because the detailed references are unofficial.

In Graveyard Keeper 2, decide whether a corpse is for burial or zombie use before you operate: the available fan references describe white skulls as valuable for burial and red skulls as useful for zombies. Inspect the body’s organs and pocket contents first, then make only the changes that fit its intended use. The detailed mechanics below come from unofficial references, not developer documentation, so treat exact requirements and outcomes as provisional.

What can you do during an autopsy?

The fan-maintained Corpses & Organs reference describes a corpse as having six organ slots—skin, bones, skull, heart, brain, and guts—along with pocket contents and a Burial Certificate. Organs and pocket items contribute to the corpse’s red and white skull totals.

At the autopsy table, you can remove or insert organs and pick pockets. Some organ slots may not be operable until you learn the related technology. Check the visible values before changing anything: removing an organ is not automatically beneficial, especially if it contributes white skulls to a body intended for burial.

Choose the corpse’s destination first

Decision What the references recommend What to check before operating
Prepare for burial Favor more white skulls and fewer red skulls. Inspect each organ’s contribution. Removing a white-value organ can lower the body’s burial potential.
Prepare for zombie use Red skulls are described as useful for zombies. Consider whether the corpse’s red-skull profile is worth using and avoid risky operations on a valuable body.

These are strategic directions, not complete recipes. The fan-made GK2DB corpses-and-organs guide also presents game-data-derived information, but the available references do not establish a verified, current-build extraction recipe for either destination.

What can go wrong during an operation?

The unofficial mechanics reference describes three outcomes:

  • Perfect: the intended extraction or insertion succeeds.
  • Fair: an extracted organ is destroyed, or an organ offered for insertion is lost.
  • Bad: a Surgeon’s Error is created in the operated slot.

That reference says meeting the required mastery guarantees a perfect operation; below the requirement, failure is possible. It also reports Anatomy mastery requirements for skin, bones, and skulls, with higher requirements for better-quality organs. Its precise thresholds and calculated under-threshold odds are fan-reported game-data claims, not confirmed current-build values. Check the requirement shown in your game before risking an important organ.

The same source says a Surgeon’s Error has negative red and white values, makes the slot unusable, and prevents that corpse from being raised as a zombie. These consequences are not established by official documentation in the available sources; verify them in your build rather than treating them as guaranteed mechanics.

How should you manage the autopsy table and corpse storage?

The fan-maintained Autopsy Table I entry lists the table as one unit of morgue capacity and says zombie workers cannot perform autopsies. It also says an additional corpse pallet provides one capacity for fewer materials than another autopsy table. Use the current in-game interface to confirm capacity, costs, and delivery behavior.

  1. Carry the corpse to the autopsy table and inspect its visible organ values and pockets.
  2. Choose burial or zombie use before removing or inserting anything.
  3. Check whether the relevant organ slot is unlocked and review the displayed mastery requirement.
  4. Perform the operation yourself; the cited workstation reference does not list zombie workers as able to do it.
  5. If incoming corpses exceed available morgue capacity, check whether adding a corpse pallet is the appropriate expansion in your build.

How reliable are the exact autopsy numbers?

The detailed mechanics here come from fan-maintained references. GK2DB says its database is derived from game code and tables, while the Graveyard Keeper 2 Wiki notes that code-derived claims not tested in play are marked unconfirmed. Neither is official developer documentation, so exact thresholds, operation odds, freshness penalties, injection effects, and maximum zombie productivity are not established as verified current-build facts by these sources. The publisher’s game catalog confirms the title and lists PC, Xbox, PlayStation, and Nintendo Switch, but does not document autopsy mechanics.
