Google has begun giving selected cybersecurity defenders access to Gemini 4 Argon, a new model it says can autonomously find, validate, and patch critical software vulnerabilities. The rollout is limited to trusted participants in Google’s Fairwind Program; Argon is not yet generally available. Google says broader access will begin later with paid API customers and Google AI Ultra subscribers, but has not announced a date.
What Google announced
On September 30, 2026, Google announced Gemini 4 Argon and said it was starting a phased release with trusted cyber defenders through Fairwind. Google plans to gather feedback and continue refining safeguards before opening access more broadly. The announcement says paid API customers and Google AI Ultra subscribers will be the first groups in a later expansion, without specifying when.

Fairwind is the program; Argon is the newer model being added to its defender-first approach. Google launched Fairwind in September with Gemini 3.8 Flash Cyber and the CodeMender harness. That initial setup and Argon should not be treated as the same model or release. Google’s Fairwind overview and its Argon announcement describe the distinct stages.
What Argon is designed to do
Google describes Argon as a frontier model for long-running work in software engineering, enterprise knowledge tasks such as legal and finance, and cyber defense. Its central cybersecurity claim is that the model can autonomously discover vulnerabilities, validate them, and produce patches.

- POWERFUL SECURITY KEY: The Security Key C NFC is the essential physical passkey for protecting your digital life from phishing attacks. It ensures only you can access your accounts.
- WORKS WITH 1000+ ACCOUNTS: Compatible with Google, Microsoft, and Apple. A single Security Key C NFC secures 100 of your favorite accounts, including email, password managers, and more.
- FAST & CONVENIENT LOGIN: Plug in your Security Key C NFC via USB-C and tap it, or tap it against your phone (NFC) to authenticate. No batteries, no internet connection, and no extra fees required.
- TRUSTED PASSKEY TECHNOLOGY: Uses the latest passkey standards (FIDO2/WebAuthn & FIDO U2F) but does not support One-Time Passwords. For complex needs, check out the YubiKey 5 Series.
- BUILT TO LAST: Made from tough, waterproof, and crush-resistant materials. Manufactured in Sweden and programmed in the USA with the highest security standards.
Google says Wiz used Argon early through its Scan for Good initiative. In an early demonstration, the model reportedly found a critical vulnerability that exposed sensitive personal information in healthcare software used by hospitals. This is a vendor-reported example, not an independently verified assessment of Argon’s performance or reliability.

Initial access is for selected trusted defenders through Fairwind, not an open public release. Google describes Fairwind as serving governments and national cyber authorities, critical infrastructure operators, and core technology platforms. Its program materials say participating organizations must restrict use to employees on internal cybersecurity, incident-response, or penetration-testing teams and apply protections such as multi-factor authentication. Google says more than 650 partners globally participate in Fairwind.

Google also says it is strengthening safeguards before broader availability. The areas it names include preventing cyber and chemical, biological, radiological, and nuclear misuse; resisting indirect prompt injection; monitoring for misalignment; and hardening sandboxes used in high-risk training or evaluation. Google says trusted defenders and its own internal teams will receive Argon without cyber guardrails, but describes this as controlled access for trusted users—not unrestricted public access.
Koray Kavukcuoglu, Google DeepMind’s senior vice president and Google’s chief AI architect, said: “Safely releasing frontier capabilities at this level requires a phased approach.”

What organizations can use instead while they wait
Google says any Google Cloud customer can use CodeMender with publicly available models hosted on Gemini Enterprise Agent Platform, together with AI Threat Defense. This is an adjacent code-security route, not access to Gemini 4 Argon. Google describes CodeMender as helping write and validate code fixes; Fairwind participants use the program to help find and fix vulnerabilities.
