Find and open Glowbar Disco
- Open Settings.
- Go to Apps > See all apps.
- Open the three-dot menu and choose Show System.
- Search for Glowbar Disco and select the result.
- On the app-info screen, choose Open in the upper-right corner.
This route is attributed to Chrome Unboxed’s October 9, 2026 guide. The guide says Glowbar Disco does not appear in the ordinary app launcher. If the app does not appear in the system-app list, the cited guide does not establish why; its steps may not apply to every Googlebook or software version.

Select an animation
The named presets are Firebird, Fire, Rainbow, Vibe Code, Strobe, and Pong.
Try audio-reactive lighting
The reported music-sync modes are VU Meter, Spectrum, and Disco. Chrome Unboxed describes music sync as experimental and cautions that results may vary, so treat it as an optional effect rather than a guaranteed feature.

What the Glowbar normally indicates
Google defines the Glowbar as the LED light strip on a device’s lid. Its documented purpose includes visual feedback about power, battery status, and other system activity, including when the screen is off.

- A colored animation appears while the device wakes.
- Green, yellow, and red indicate battery states.
- A blue-purple gradient indicates a Gemini conversation in progress.
Google’s documented settings are at Settings > Device and accessories > Glowbar. There, users can toggle Use glowbar and separately control the Gemini light. Turning off the Glowbar does not disable critical power, charging, or sleep/resume lights; turning off the Gemini light does not prevent using Gemini. Google’s documentation describes these standard Glowbar behaviors, not the hidden app’s location or its reported animation and music controls.

What Google has said about the feature
Android Authority reported that Alexander Kuscher, Google’s Senior Director of Product for Laptops and Tablets, mentioned Glowbar Disco in an Android Faithful interview, describing it as an app “hiding somewhere” on the device. The report points to the interview at 1:15:25. Android Authority also says Google worked on Glowbar software while partner manufacturers built the hardware, naming Acer, ASUS, Dell, HP, and Lenovo among Googlebook makers.
Tom’s Guide quoted Sameer Samat, Google’s president of the Android Ecosystem, saying: “There’s a boot up animation that tells you the power left in the device.” The same report says Samat discussed Google opening a developer API. That is a stated direction, not confirmation that a public API is currently available; the report gives no release date.

What you need—and what is not established
Glowbar Disco concerns the physical Glowbar built into supported Googlebook hardware. The available information does not establish that the app works with a standard laptop, an external LED strip, every Googlebook model, or every software version. Nor does it confirm current public access to a developer API. If the app or a control is missing, the reporting does not provide a device-specific fix or compatibility list.
