How to find the new free channels on Google TV
The UI paths vary slightly by device model, but Google TV generally keeps free channels in one of two places: Live/Channels categories or a dedicated Free channels/Live TV-style area.
On a Google TV smart TV
- Press Home.
- Scroll to Apps or Live TV (names vary by manufacturer).
- Look for a tile or row labeled Free channels, Live, or similar wording.
- Open the free channel section and scroll to the new listings.
On a Chromecast with Google TV
- On the remote, press Home.
- Go to Apps.
- Find Free channels or a Live TV-type area in the Apps list.

How the Bob Ross Channel typically shows up (and how to pin it)
Most channel rollouts appear in browse rows before they appear on every profile. If you don’t see it instantly, use search—then pin it once it appears.
Browse method
Open the Free channels area and scan the newly added rows. Google often groups channels by category (art, lifestyle, or general entertainment), so don’t only look at the newest row.
Search method
- Press the Search button on your remote (magnifying glass icon).
- Type Bob Ross (or Bob Ross Channel).
- Select the channel from results if it appears.
If you get no results, try searching just Bob Ross first, then try Ross as a fallback.
Pinning and removing from your home screen
When the channel appears, you can usually add it to your favorites/pinned area.

Where free channels live in the Google TV interface
Confusion is common because Google TV can surface content under multiple labels. The goal is to get to the channel catalog that’s specific to FAST/free streams.
Live TV vs Free channels
Live TV may include multiple sources (including tuner-based and streaming providers). Free channels is typically the dedicated ad-supported catalog for FAST streams.
Apps and channels list behavior
Some devices show free channels as rows inside a guide, while others show them as an “app-like” catalog. If you don’t see a row on the home screen, check:
- Apps for a “Free channels” entry
- Search for Bob Ross Channel
- Live TV for a Free/Ad-supported category
What to expect from FAST and ad-supported streaming
Free channels on Google TV are usually ad-supported streams. That affects both your viewing experience and what controls you’ll see.
Ads and playback behavior
- You may see short ad breaks when you start playback or switch between programs.
- Some streams are more “linear” (always playing) rather than fully on-demand.
- Availability of pause/rewind can vary by channel source.
HD/4K availability
Many FAST channels are delivered in 1080p quality, and some may offer 4K on capable devices. If the channel supports higher resolution, Google TV’s display settings and internet bandwidth will influence what you actually get.

Regional availability
Even if a channel is announced, your device may receive it based on country/region and rollout timing. If you’re traveling or your location settings are off, results can change.

Troubleshooting: the channel isn’t showing up
If you don’t see the Bob Ross Channel after searching, don’t assume it’s gone. These steps fix the most common rollout and catalog issues.
Check updates on your Google TV device
- Go to Settings.
- Select System (or Device preferences).
- Choose About or System updates.
- Select Check for updates and install any pending update.
After updating, leave the device on for a few minutes so the channel catalog can refresh.
Restart and re-sync the home screen
- Press and hold the Power button on the remote.
- Select Restart.
- Wait for the Google TV home screen to fully load.
- Run a fresh search for Bob Ross.
Confirm network and location settings
- Test that you can open other streaming apps normally (YouTube, Netflix, etc.).
- Verify the time and date are set automatically.
- Check Location settings if your device uses them for content availability.
Try searching by exact channel name
Some listings appear as “Bob Ross Channel” while others show as “Bob Ross.” Use both search terms. If you see a similarly named result, open it and confirm it’s the channel stream—not a related video channel.

Reset the channel guide data (last resort)
If your Google TV is stuck showing an outdated catalog, a deeper refresh may be needed. The safest route is usually clearing the guide app’s data only if you’re comfortable re-authenticating certain providers.
- Go to Settings > Apps.
- Find the Google TV interface component used for the guide/channel catalog (names vary by build).
- Choose Storage then Clear cache (try cache first).
- If the problem persists, consider Clear data only as a last resort.
After clearing data, restart the device and re-search for Bob Ross.
Comparing options: Google TV free channels vs other free streaming
Google TV free channels are convenient because they appear in one place and play like TV. But you may still want to compare them to what you already have on-device.

Google TV Free channels vs YouTube free content
Free channels are linear streams designed for “put it on and play.” YouTube free content is typically on-demand and searchable episode-by-episode. If you want specific segments, YouTube often wins; if you want continuous viewing, FAST wins.
Google TV vs FAST apps (general behavior)
Some FAST channels are also available in standalone apps. However, Google TV’s channel catalog can be easier because it centralizes discovery. If you already have a FAST app installed, the channel may appear there first, then later on Google TV.
Privacy and parental controls for free channels
Because free channels are ad-supported, you’ll want to control which profile is active and how much personalization is allowed—especially in shared homes.
Use Google TV profiles
- On Google TV, open Settings.
- Look for Accounts, Profiles, or Users.
- Create or switch to the correct profile before browsing free channels.
Restrict content and manage watch history
- Check Parental controls for content restrictions based on maturity ratings.
- If available, review Watch history and ad personalization settings.
Exact wording can differ based on your device and region, but the goal is the same: keep recommendations consistent with who’s watching.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.Common mistakes when adding new free channels
- Skipping the update check—rollouts can be tied to system updates.
- Searching for the wrong term—try both “Bob Ross” and “Bob Ross Channel.”
- Only checking the home row—free channels can be buried inside Live/Free categories.
- Using the wrong profile on shared devices, which can make your results look different.
