Two separate developments were reported together on May 29, 2025: Google began taking direct online orders for Pixel products through the Indian Google Store, while Google reportedly traced a burst of Android battery drain to an Instagram bug. Updating Instagram—not replacing a Pixel battery—was the reported remedy for that incident.
What Google launched in India
Google introduced direct-to-consumer purchasing through Google Store India on May 29, 2025. Indian customers can order eligible Pixel phones, watches, earbuds and official accessories from Google’s own storefront.
This expanded Google’s sales and support presence; it did not replace Flipkart, Croma, Reliance Digital or other online and offline partners. It is primarily an online buying channel, not an announcement of a nationwide chain of Google-owned physical shops.
Which Pixel products are available?
Launch-era coverage named the Pixel 9, Pixel 9a, Pixel 9 Pro Fold, Pixel Watch 3, Pixel Buds Pro 2 and accessories. That was the May 2025 lineup, not a permanent catalog.

The current Google Store India catalog viewed on August 18, 2026 lists the Pixel 10, Pixel 10 Pro and Pro XL, Pixel 10 Pro Fold, Pixel 9a, Pixel 9, and Pixel 9 Pro and Pro XL families. Stock, prices and promotions can change, so check the product page before ordering.
Buying directly: payments, financing and exchange
- UPI: Google’s India storefront supports UPI payments.
- EMI and bank offers: Financing, discounts and no-cost EMI depend on the product, participating bank or card, promotion and eligibility. They are not guaranteed for every order.
- Exchange: Google identifies Cashify as its exchange partner. The process can cover brands such as Apple, Samsung, OnePlus and Pixel. Cashify provides an estimate, arranges pickup and inspects the old device; the final exchange refund depends on its actual model, IMEI, condition and functionality.
- Support: A direct order gives you Google purchase support and a clear connection to Google’s repair workflow, but it does not guarantee faster repairs or immediate parts availability.
Buying direct can make provenance, warranty records and support simpler. It is not automatically the cheapest option: a retailer may have a stronger sale or bank promotion, so compare live prices and terms before paying.

What the 2025 battery-drain story actually involved
The incident was reported after users noticed unusually rapid battery loss following the May 2025 Android update. Reports came from Pixel owners and people using other Android phones. According to the contemporary report quoting Google, the increased drain was caused by an Instagram software bug, not evidence of a Pixel battery recall or a defect in every newly sold device.
Instagram version 382.0.0.49.84 was reported as containing the fix. That number is historical; install the newest Instagram version offered in Google Play rather than searching for that exact build.

How to troubleshoot the reported Instagram drain
- Open the Google Play Store and search for Instagram.
- Install the newest available update.
- Restart the phone.
- Use the phone normally for a day and review battery behaviour.
- On a Pixel, open Settings → Battery → Battery usage and check whether Instagram is using an abnormal share of power.
- If Instagram remains unusually high, force-stop it, clear its cache, or temporarily uninstall and reinstall it.
If another app is at the top of the battery list, investigate that app instead of assuming the Instagram incident explains the drain. Post-update optimisation, weak cellular signal or repeated 5G searching, high brightness, gaming, camera or hotspot use, battery ageing and other software faults can all increase consumption.
Do not combine it with the April 2026 Pixel reports
Separate reporting described unusual idle drain after the April 2026 Pixel update, affecting several Pixel generations. That coverage said Google was investigating; it did not establish that the reports were the same Instagram bug or document a final universal fix.

When battery drain may be a hardware safety issue
Stop using and charging the phone if it is swelling, unusually hot, lifting the screen or back, shutting down unexpectedly, or physically damaged. Those symptoms require a repair assessment, not repeated app troubleshooting. Do not puncture, press or continue using a visibly swollen battery.

The Google India repair-centre page advertises more than 20 centres and four Google Exclusive locations in Delhi, Mumbai, Hyderabad and Bengaluru. Hours and available services vary by centre; verify them before travelling.
Starting a repair request
- Open Google’s repair-start workflow and sign in to your Google Account.
- Select the device or enter its IMEI or serial number.
- Select every applicable issue, including any screen, frame or liquid damage—not only “battery.”
- Choose mail-in or walk-in service if both are offered for your model and location.
- Back up your data and factory-reset the phone where possible. If you cannot reset it, sign out of the Google Account and follow the service instructions.
- Review the inspection result and quote before authorising paid work.
In-warranty and out-of-warranty service are available where eligible, but neither guarantees a free battery replacement. Accidental damage, undisclosed damage, unauthorised modifications, missing parts and parts shortages can change the quote or make a service option unavailable. Google also identifies an additional-fee pickup/drop option in designated Bengaluru areas; coverage is geographic and not universal.
What this means for an Indian Pixel buyer
- Use the Google Store if official purchase support, UPI and an integrated exchange path matter most.
- Compare authorised retailers when the lowest live price or a retailer-specific bank offer matters more.
- Treat Cashify’s first exchange estimate as provisional until inspection is complete.
- For ordinary software drain, update apps and inspect battery usage before paying for a battery or repair.
- For swelling, heat or physical damage, stop using the phone and use Google’s repair workflow.
The direct Google Store channel is real and remains active, but the battery headline needs precision: the May 2025 fix addressed an Instagram bug, while later Pixel battery reports are a separate matter.
