You can create Google Calendar events from Google Sheets with a custom Google Apps Script, a no-code automation in Zapier, or a Google Workspace Marketplace add-on. The right choice depends on how much control you need and whether events should be created only for new rows or also change when a row is edited. Before automating a full sheet, map the event fields, confirm calendar permissions, and test a representative row—including its time zone and end date.
Choose how the sheet should control your calendar
First decide what should happen when spreadsheet data changes. A workflow that creates an event once from a new row is different from one that also updates an existing event when its row is edited. Consider how the workflow will identify an event that already exists; otherwise, retries or repeated processing could create duplicates. The available Zapier integration includes new-row and updated-row workflow patterns, but duplicate protection depends on the specific configuration.

- Choose Apps Script if you need custom column mapping, validation, calendar selection, or duplicate-handling logic and are comfortable configuring or adapting code.
- Choose Zapier if a visual trigger-and-action workflow suits your needs. Its documented event action includes calendar, summary, description, location, start and end date/time, repeat settings, and all-day status.
- Consider a Marketplace add-on if you prefer an installed interface for creating events from sheet rows or Forms submissions. Check the listing’s current permissions, pricing, publisher information, and compatibility before installing.
Compare the three approaches
| Approach | Setup and control | What to check |
|---|---|---|
| Google Apps Script | Requires configuring or adapting code; can be tailored to columns, validation, calendar choice, and duplicate logic. | Google’s Calendar-timesheet sample syncs Calendar data into a spreadsheet; adapt the pattern for the reverse direction if creating events from rows. |
| Zapier | Uses a visual trigger/action workflow, with documented new-row and updated-row patterns. | Confirm the selected trigger, event fields, update behavior, and current plan’s polling behavior. |
| Calendar Events Creator | A Google Workspace Marketplace add-on whose listing describes automatic event creation from Sheets rows or Forms submissions. | Review its current permissions, pricing, publisher details, and compatibility. The listing reports an update date of May 28, 2026. |
Prepare the spreadsheet and calendar
Give each event a clear row
Use distinct columns for the event title, start date and time, and end date and time. Add optional columns such as description, location, attendees, or all-day status only if your chosen method supports and needs them. Keep date and time values consistent across rows so you can spot malformed or ambiguous entries before they reach the calendar.

Choose the calendar where events belong and make sure the account connected to the automation can create events there. Zapier says connecting a Calendar account requires permission to view, add, or manage events on the target calendar. Review an add-on’s requested permissions before granting access.

Set up the workflow
- Choose one implementation path. In Apps Script, configure or adapt a script using Google’s Calendar and Spreadsheet services. Google’s Calendar API quickstart also shows how an Apps Script project can make Calendar API requests and add the required service. In Zapier, select a Google Sheets new-row trigger and connect it to a Google Calendar event-creation action. For an add-on, follow its current Marketplace listing and setup instructions.
- Map sheet columns to Calendar fields. At minimum, map the title and start and end date/time. Map description, location, attendees, all-day status, or other fields only where the chosen method offers them.
- Define what edits and retries do. Decide whether edits to a row should update its event, leave it unchanged, or create another event. If the workflow needs to find and update an existing event, configure that behavior explicitly; do not assume every new-row workflow prevents duplicates.
- Test one representative row. Include a timed event and, if relevant, an all-day event. Check the created event in the intended calendar for its title, date, time zone, end date, and optional fields before processing more rows.
Check all-day dates, time zones, and polling
All-day events
For Zapier’s documented all-day behavior, the event ends at midnight on the last day, so that end date is not included in the visible duration. Test the dates you enter against the resulting event rather than assuming the end date is inclusive.
Time zones and timed events
Test start and end times using representative rows and check the result in the destination calendar. A time that appears correct in a spreadsheet can still be wrong in the calendar if the connected accounts or workflow interpret time zones differently.

Polling and delayed runs
Zapier’s help page says some polling triggers on its Free plan check every 15 minutes. That timing applies to some triggers, not necessarily every workflow or current plan; verify the behavior for the trigger and plan you select.
Use official examples carefully
Google’s Apps Script Calendar service provides methods for accessing and modifying calendars and events. Its Calendar-timesheet sample combines Calendar and Spreadsheet services and demonstrates a configurable sidebar and synchronization settings, but the sample syncs Calendar data into a spreadsheet timesheet. It is a starting point for understanding the services, not a ready-made Sheets-to-Calendar event-creation workflow. For a project that makes Calendar API requests, Google also documents adding the required service in its Calendar API quickstart.
