Google’s Search Live camera view may soon become smaller and movable: Android Authority reports that it enabled a redesigned interface in Google app beta 17.64.13. The changes were found in an under-development build, so they do not confirm a public release or a rollout date.
What changes in the Search Live camera view?
Search Live provides real-time answers through voice commands or a combination of voice and the phone camera. In the interface reported by Android Authority, the camera no longer fills the screen. Instead, its viewfinder is smaller, can be minimized, and can be moved around the screen’s corners using a grab handle at the top.

The report characterizes the direction as shifting attention from the camera feed toward the answers. That is an interpretation of the interface, not an explanation attributed to Google.

What else looks different?
- No edge glow: The redesign removes the glow around the screen edges that appears while the video feed is active in the current layout.
- A more bubbly animation: The listening-and-responding animation at the bottom looks “bubblier,” in Android Authority’s description. The outlet says it had spotted this visual change earlier, in early September.
Where did the Transcript button go?
The Transcript button is not visible in the changed interface. Android Authority says it is too early to tell whether Google removed it or moved it elsewhere. The report says transcripts can still be reached from the AI Mode search history page: in the updated viewfinder, open the hamburger menu marked with a sparkle icon.

Is the redesign available now?
Android Authority’s October 6, 2026 report is based on an APK teardown of Google app beta 17.64.13. It shows changes enabled in that beta build, not a confirmed announcement or general release. Google has not been cited as confirming the redesign, and the report says it is unclear when—or whether—the interface will roll out more widely. Read Android Authority’s report.
