The Pixel 10a has the newer listed processor, a slightly larger and brighter screen, and stronger battery figures on Google’s spec pages. The Pixel 8 has a higher-resolution main rear camera and a clearly stated seven-year update promise. Google lists the Pixel 10a from $499 in the US, but the available official Pixel 8 page does not establish a current price, so a reliable dollar difference depends on checking current offers for the same region, storage and condition.

What the spec differences mean
Screen: the 10a is larger and brighter on paper
The Pixel 10a adds 0.1 inch of diagonal screen size and has higher Google-listed HDR and peak brightness figures. Both screens are specified for a 60–120 Hz refresh rate. The Pixel 8’s listed pixel density is slightly higher, at 428 PPI versus 422.2 PPI, despite its smaller screen. Those measurements alone do not establish which display looks better in everyday use.
#1 Best Overall
- Google Pixel 10a is a durable, everyday phone with more[1]; snap brilliant photography on a simple, powerful camera, get 30+ hours out of a full charge[2], and do more with helpful AI like Gemini[3]
- Unlocked Android phone gives you the flexibility to change carriers and choose your own data plan; it works with Google Fi, Verizon, T-Mobile, AT&T, and other major carriers
- Pixel 10a is sleek and durable, with a super smooth finish, scratch-resistant Corning Gorilla Glass 7i display, and IP68 water and dust protection[4]
- The Actua display with 3,000-nit peak brightness shows up clear as day, even in direct sunlight[5]
- Plan, create, and get more done with help from Gemini, your built-in AI assistant[3]; have it screen spam calls while you focus[6]; chat with Gemini to brainstorm your meal plan[7], or bring your ideas to life with Nano Banana[8]
Processor: a newer generation, not a proven speed advantage
Google lists Tensor G4 in the Pixel 10a and Tensor G3 in the Pixel 8. That makes the 10a the newer chip by model designation, but the specifications here include no benchmark results. They do not show how large any speed or efficiency difference is for a particular app or workload.
Battery: Google’s estimates favor the 10a
Google lists a larger typical battery and longer estimated use for the Pixel 10a: 5,100 mAh and 30+ hours, compared with the Pixel 8’s 4,575 mAh and 24+ hours. The estimates rise to 120 and 72 hours, respectively, with Extreme Battery Saver. These are Google’s estimates, not comparable independent test results; actual battery life depends on use and settings.

Cameras: megapixels do not settle image quality
The Pixel 8 has a 50 MP wide rear camera, while the Pixel 10a lists a 48 MP wide camera. The 10a has a 13 MP ultrawide and a stated feature of up to 8x Super Zoom; the Pixel 8’s ultrawide is 12 MP. The 10a also lists a 13 MP front camera against the Pixel 8’s 10.5 MP front camera. Resolution and feature lists cannot establish which phone takes better photos. No direct image-quality testing is available in this comparison.
Charging: check the charger requirement
Both phones support wireless charging, but their wired fast-charging specifications differ. Google specifies a 30 W USB-C PD 3.0 PPS charger for the Pixel 8 and a 45 W or higher USB-C PPS charger for the Pixel 10a; both are sold separately for the stated fast charging. The Pixel 8 page also lists Battery Share.

Pixel 8 vs. Pixel 10a price difference
Google Store US displayed the Pixel 10a from $499 when observed in 2026. The captured official Pixel 8 specifications page does not state a current price, so there is no supported current US price difference to calculate from these figures. A launch price for one phone compared with a current sale price for the other would not be a like-for-like comparison.
Google Store UK separately displayed the Pixel 10a at £429 against a listed usual price of £499 when observed in 2026. That is a UK price observation, not a comparison with the US price or a Pixel 8 offer. Prices and availability can change, so check the relevant Google Store or retailer before buying.

For an accurate comparison, use offers from the same country and compare the same storage capacity and condition. Check whether each listing is new or refurbished, who is selling it, and whether the displayed price is a sale price. A used or seller-specific Pixel 8 offer should be evaluated on those terms rather than treated as a standard current price.
Is the Pixel 10a better than the Pixel 8?
There is no single winner in the published specifications. The Pixel 10a leads on screen size and Google-listed brightness, battery capacity and estimated battery duration; it also uses the newer listed Tensor generation. The Pixel 8 has a 50 MP main rear camera rather than the 10a’s 48 MP camera, and Google explicitly states a seven-year update commitment for the Pixel 8. The sources used here do not state the Pixel 10a’s support duration, so they cannot establish a software-support winner.
Best Value
Choose based on the factors that matter to you, not one specification in isolation:
Quick Recap
- Consider the Pixel 10a if its larger, brighter-listed screen and Google’s stronger battery estimates are priorities, and its current price works for you.
- Consider the Pixel 8 if you find it at a compelling same-market price, prefer its listed main-camera resolution, or value its explicitly stated update commitment.
- Compare camera performance and everyday speed carefully if those are decisive: the specifications do not replace direct camera comparisons or benchmarks.
- Check support details before choosing on lifespan: Google states seven years of OS, security and Feature Drop updates for Pixel 8, but the material cited here does not establish the Pixel 10a’s duration.
