Reports that Google Messages is prepping a Find Hub location sharing integration point to one core shift: location sharing may move closer to your conversations, not just a standalone maps workflow. That usually means fewer taps to share, clearer context (who you’re sharing with), and more consistent controls inside the chat experience.
You don’t need the feature live on your phone to get ready. With the right app updates and location/privacy permissions in place, you’ll be much less likely to hit the “feature missing” or “sharing won’t start” problems that often appear during rollouts.

What Google Messages is preparing with Find Hub
Find Hub is Google’s umbrella concept for location discovery and safety-oriented sharing features. When Google Messages adds a Find Hub location sharing integration, the typical goal is to let you share your location directly from Messages using the same underlying location permissions and sharing rules Google uses across Android.
Practically, the integration usually looks like one or more of these changes inside Messages:
#1 Best Overall
- Dual-System Compatibility: Our tracker tags work seamlessly with both iOS and Android systems, covering mainstream devices. This Bluetooth tracker pairs effortlessly with Apple's “Find My” or Google's “Find Hub” app without subscription fees. (Note: Cannot pair with iOS and Android devices simultaneously.)
- Device Sharing: Using new Android features or iOS 17, you can share air tracker tag access with others via Google Find Hub or the “Find” app, allowing them to view real-time location maps of your items.
- Privacy Protection: Both iOS and Android “Find” networks transmit data through encrypted, anonymous networks. No location information, history, or item-related data is stored, this dual system tracker ensuring comprehensive user privacy protection.
- High-Volume Alert: Close-Range Search—The app displays the distance to lost items (Bluetooth range up to 36 meters) to narrow your search area. Trigger an 80-100 decibel alert from the built-in speaker via Google Find Hub or Apple's Find My app—ideal for locating items in cluttered spaces like sofa crevices or drawers. Even if the item is out of sight, a single button press activates the smart tracker tag's alert.
- Simple Setup: This tracker for android or iOS pairs effortlessly with Android or iOS devices in seconds, automatically adapting to your chosen platform (connects to only one platform at a time).
- A dedicated location-sharing entry point in a conversation UI.
- Share requests and consent flows that feel native to SMS/RCS chats.
- Location updates that are governed by Android’s location permission model (and often Google account settings).
Why location sharing inside Messages matters
People share location in bursts: meeting up, walking home, coordinating arrivals, or checking on a family member. Putting sharing inside Google Messages reduces the friction of switching apps and makes it easier to start and stop sharing with the right person.
It can also help with clarity. Instead of sharing a live location from a separate map screen, you can attach location-sharing to the same chat thread where the agreement is happening.
Prerequisites: what you need before it works
Even if your device is eligible, location sharing integrations depend on a few fundamentals: up-to-date Google components, correct permissions, and reliable location services.
| Requirement | What to verify |
|---|---|
| Android location services | Location toggle is ON; app has permission to access location. |
| High-accuracy mode (recommended) | Uses Wi‑Fi and Bluetooth for better indoor accuracy. |
| Google account | You’re signed in and syncing is enabled where applicable. |
| App updates | Google Messages and Google Play services are current enough for the rollout. |
| Network + background access | Messages can run services needed for location updates. |
How to prepare on Android (settings to verify)
Below is a practical checklist. If you do only three things, do the updates, verify Messages permissions, and enable accurate location.
Confirm your Google account and location permissions
First, confirm you’re signed into the Google account you normally use for Google services. Then check the permission prompts that commonly block sharing.
- Open Settings → Accounts (or Passwords & accounts).
- Confirm your Google account is present and active.
- Open Settings → Location.
- Make sure Location is turned ON.
Enable Location services and high-accuracy mode
For meeting-style sharing, precision matters. High accuracy can be the difference between “nearby” and “arrived.”
- Go to Settings → Location.
- Tap Location services (or Location mode).
- Select High accuracy (wording may vary by device).
Check app permissions for Google Messages
Google Messages needs permission to access location when the integration feature is invoked.

- LOST ITEM ALERTS & LOST MODE: Please enable Lost Mode after adding the item. When your Android Tracker Tag moves out of bluetooth range, the Google Find Hub app sends an lost alert with the last known location. If you discover that your item is missing, you can leave your contact information in Lost Mode and so nearby Android devices can remotely access it and help locate your item, making recovery your item quick and easy.
- SMART TRACKING LOCATION : When within Bluetooth range, play sound to quickly find the item tracker tag; when out of range (up to 60 m / 200 ft), the Google Find Hub app will use the vast ecosystem of Android devices to provide the item finder’s latest location. Enjoy global tracking with Google Find Hub app without any subscription fees.

IP67 Waterproof: this smart air tag tracker for android is IP67 certified, easily withstanding rain, splashes, and brief submersion. you can use it for outdoor activities or travel.
- Open Settings → Apps → Google Messages.
- Tap Permissions.
- Find Location and set it to Allow (or Allow only while using the app, depending on your preference).
Update Google Play services and Messages
Rollouts often depend on Google Play services and the specific Messages build you’re running.
- Open Google Play Store.
- Search Google Messages and update it.
- Search Google Play services and update it.
- If prompted, restart your phone after updates.
Check whether the Find Hub integration is available for you
Rollouts don’t hit everyone at once. The feature may be present on your device but hidden behind UI conditions (like the chat type or permission state).
Verify app version and rollout availability
You’ll want the newest Messages build. Android also uses staged rollouts, so two phones can show different capabilities at the same time.
- Open Google Messages → tap your profile icon (or ⋮ menu).
- Go to Settings → About (or scroll to Version).
- Compare your version with the latest available update in Play Store (if you don’t see an explicit number, just ensure you installed the most recent update).
Look for the location-sharing entry point in Messages
The integration typically surfaces where attachments or conversation actions live.
The Tool Desk
Outbyte PC Repair FREERepair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →Outbyte Driver Updater FREEFix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →- Open a chat in Google Messages.
- Tap the + / attachment icon or the conversation action menu (often ⋮).
- Look for items like Share location, Location, or a Find Hub-related option.
- If you see it but it fails, re-check location permissions and accuracy mode.
How location sharing is likely to work (typical user flow)
Even before you see the feature label “Find Hub” explicitly, the flow will probably resemble other Google-backed location sharing experiences.
Start sharing from a chat
When you tap the location-sharing option, Messages should request the minimum needed location access and then create a share session linked to that conversation.
- Open the conversation.
- Select Share location.
- Choose sharing duration or a mode if prompted (wording can vary).
- Confirm with Share / Send.
Accept or manage a share request
If someone sends you a share request, you typically get a prompt in the chat context, not a random system notification only.

Privacy controls and what to review
Any location sharing integration should be treated as a privacy feature, not just a convenience feature. Make sure you’re comfortable with who gets your location and for how long.
Granularity: what gets shared and for how long
Some implementations share live location updates, others share a fixed point, and many include a duration window. When you see a duration selector, choose the shortest time that meets your needs.
Who can see your location
In a chat-based flow, the recipient is usually the person in that conversation. Still, double-check that you didn’t start sharing with the wrong contact or a group thread you don’t control.
Device-level controls you can always use
If you want hard stops, Android’s system settings are the final line of defense.

Troubleshooting when Find Hub sharing doesn’t show up
If you can’t find a location-sharing option in Google Messages, it’s usually one of four things: rollout not enabled, wrong permissions, location mode set too low, or the device blocking background behavior.
Fix checklist (fastest first)
- Confirm you updated Google Messages.
- Confirm you updated Google Play services.
- Verify Settings → Location is ON and mode is High accuracy.
- Verify Google Messages has Location permission.
Permissions or device settings errors
If you see prompts that say location permission is missing or denied, fix it directly in app settings.

- Go to Settings → Apps → Google Messages.
- Open Permissions → Location.
- Set to Allow (try “While using” first, then loosen if the integration still won’t start).
Network, battery, and background restrictions
Location sharing can fail silently when background access is restricted. This is especially common on devices with aggressive battery optimization.
- Open Settings → Battery (or Battery & power).
- Look for Battery optimization / App battery.
- Set Google Messages to Not restricted if the option exists.
- Try on Wi‑Fi or a stable cellular signal if your network is flaky.
App cache issues
If the feature appears but buttons don’t work, resetting app data is a last-resort test.
- Open Settings → Apps → Google Messages.
- Tap Storage.
- Select Clear cache (try this before clearing data).
- Reopen Messages and try again.
Alternatives if you can’t access Find Hub yet
If the integration isn’t showing on your phone, you can still share location effectively. The goal is to achieve the same outcome: “my friend knows where I am” with controls and time limits.
Use Google Maps location sharing
This is the most consistent alternative because it’s not dependent on a Messages feature flag.
- Open Google Maps.
- Tap your profile photo or avatar in the top-right.
- Choose Location sharing.
- Select duration and recipient(s).
- Confirm sharing and return to Messages once you’re done.
Use Android’s built-in location sharing options
Some Android versions include system-level sharing prompts, which can reduce friction compared with older map-based flows.
- Open Settings → Location.
- Look for location sharing-related entries if your device exposes them.
- Follow the system prompts to share for a defined time.
Use third-party messaging location features
If your group already uses another chat app for coordination, you can avoid waiting for the staged rollout.
Recommended Free Tools
- Open the chat app you and your contact both use.
- Select the app’s location-sharing feature.
- Share with the shortest duration that fits the plan.
Common mistakes to avoid
- Ignoring location mode. Low accuracy can look like a “broken feature” even when sharing is working.
- Wrong app permissions. Denying location to Google Messages often removes the share controls or makes them fail.
- Expecting instant availability. Staged rollouts mean the same Google Messages version can behave differently by account/device.
- Sharing in a group you don’t intend. Double-check the conversation thread you’re using.
FAQs
Do I need RCS to use Find Hub location sharing in Google Messages?
Not always, but it’s common for richer Google Messages features to work best with RCS-enabled chats. If the option doesn’t show in SMS chats, try an RCS conversation with the same contact.

Will sharing location reveal it permanently?
No. Location sharing features typically use a session model with duration limits and a clear way to stop sharing. Still, review the on-screen duration and use the stop control when you’re done.
Why do I see the option but it won’t start?
Most often: location permission is denied for Google Messages, Location is off, or the device is restricting background behavior for battery savings. Verify those settings first.
Can my recipient view my live location continuously?
That depends on the integration’s selected sharing mode. Many flows provide live updates during an active window, and then stop automatically or via a manual stop button.
What if I need to stop sharing immediately?
Use the stop control inside the conversation if available. If you need an immediate hard stop, turn Location OFF in Android settings or revoke location permission for Google Messages.
Bottom Line
Google Messages prepping a Find Hub location sharing integration is a move toward chat-native coordination: share from the conversation, manage consent in context, and stop sharing without hopping apps. Your best preparation is boring but effective—update Google Messages and Google Play services, confirm location permissions for Google Messages, and set Location mode to High accuracy.
If the feature still doesn’t appear, use Google Maps location sharing as a reliable fallback until the rollout reaches your device.
