If a Google Merchant Center video remains on “Preview processing,” first identify which video workflow you are using. Product Studio preview generation and feed-submitted product videos use different systems, timelines and diagnostics. Product Studio previews normally take a few minutes to generate; a feed video supplied with video_link must be crawled, validated and checked for serving eligibility.
Identify the video workflow before troubleshooting
Merchant Center uses “video” for two related but separate processes. Treating one as the other can send you to the wrong settings and lead to incorrect expectations.

When Product Studio preview processing does not finish
Allow the documented generation window
Google Merchant Center Help says generating a Product Studio preview “may take a few minutes.” That is an expected generation duration, not a guaranteed resolution time for a stuck state. If the status has only recently appeared, leave the generation screen open long enough for that interval to pass.

Check the preview’s available actions
After the generation interval, check whether the preview can be played or downloaded and whether Merchant Center lets you save or regenerate it. A usable preview may be available even if the processing label has not refreshed immediately. If regeneration is offered, use it once and watch for a new result rather than repeatedly submitting the same request.

Do not assume an undocumented cause
The published Product Studio guidance does not establish that a stuck preview is caused by browser cache, video length, account status or a service outage. Those may require account-specific evidence. If the preview remains unusable after the documented generation period and the interface provides no recovery action, record the exact status and use Merchant Center’s support route.
When the video comes from product data
Validate the video_link value
The video_link attribute is optional. Its value must be a direct URL beginning with http:// or https://, use a supported video format and comply with Google’s formatting rules. Point it to the specific product video, not a general brand or channel video.

- Open the URL outside Merchant Center and confirm that it resolves to the intended file.
- Check that the URL uses HTTP or HTTPS and has no access requirement that prevents Google’s systems from fetching it.
- Confirm the file uses a format accepted by Google’s video-link requirements.
- Make sure the submitted video corresponds to the product in that item’s data.
Replace a changed video with a new URL
When you replace a product video, publish the new file at a new, unique URL whenever possible. Google says this typically prompts a new crawl within 24–72 hours. If you overwrite the file while keeping the same URL, Google may take up to six weeks to detect the changed content and recrawl it. A successful upload to your server therefore does not guarantee an immediate Merchant Center refresh.
Use both Merchant Center diagnostics surfaces
Review the data source processing report
The data source processing report is the first place to check for basic upload, file and attribute problems. Look for errors involving the video_link field, URL syntax, file retrieval or format validation. Correct the source data, then submit the updated feed or data source according to your normal schedule.

Open Products > Needs attention
Google says the data source processing report does not cover every product issue. In Merchant Center, open Products > Needs attention and inspect the affected item’s issue details. This view can reveal product-level problems that a feed-processing check does not show.
Understand approval versus video serving
The video_link attribute itself does not determine whether an offer is approved. Google states that the attribute “won’t impact the approval status of your offers.” A video can therefore have a processing, policy or quality problem while the associated offer remains eligible to serve.

After those milestones, distinguish a technical validation error from a policy or quality issue. A serving-eligibility failure prevents the video from serving; it does not automatically prevent the related offer from serving.

A practical escalation checklist
- Confirm whether the status belongs to Product Studio preview generation or a feed item’s
video_link. - For Product Studio, allow a few minutes, then test playback, download, save or one regeneration if available.
- For feed videos, verify the direct HTTPS or HTTP URL, supported format and product-specific destination.
- If the file changed, use a new unique URL; allow 24–72 hours for a typical recrawl.
- Check the data source processing report for file and attribute errors.
- Open Products > Needs attention for product-level issues not covered by feed processing.
- Separate offer approval from video serving: a video issue does not necessarily disapprove the offer.
- If the documented checks produce no explanation, provide Merchant Center support with the item ID, exact status text, video URL and timestamps rather than assuming a universal fix.
What “stuck” does—and does not—tell you
“Preview processing” is not, by itself, proof that your video file is invalid, that your account is restricted or that Merchant Center is experiencing an outage. Google’s published guidance gives a few-minute expectation for Product Studio generation and crawl-based timings for video_link, but it does not document a single recovery procedure for every preview that remains in that state. Use the workflow-specific checks above, then escalate with the exact item and error details shown in your account.
