You can’t legitimately bypass Google Factory Reset Protection (FRP) on a Samsung Galaxy without verifying ownership. If it’s your phone, try the Google account previously used on it; on some software versions, the previous screen lock may also be offered. If you bought it used, ask the seller or prior owner to remove the account association or accept a return. Samsung directs owners who still cannot verify the device to an authorized service center.
Why a Samsung asks for a Google account after reset
FRP is a theft-deterrence feature. On a Galaxy with Google Device Protection, resetting through Recovery or another route can prompt for the Google account previously used on the phone. Samsung describes the feature for devices running Android 5.1 and later. The phone must pass an ownership check before setup can continue.

A reset started from Recovery is different from preparing an accessible phone through Settings. Samsung recommends the Settings route when you can still use the device; a Recovery reset can trigger the previous-account check. Resetting again does not remove that requirement.

1. Sign in with the Google account previously used on the phone
Enter the account that was on the Galaxy before it was reset, using its current password. Samsung says the last Google account used before the reset is required for the Recovery-menu reset path. If you have several Google accounts and are unsure which one was associated, Samsung suggests checking the device list in Google Device Manager. Samsung’s Google Device Protection guidance explains the ownership check.

2. Use the previous screen lock if the phone offers it
Depending on the Android version, the setup process may offer the screen lock that was previously set on the phone. Samsung’s US guidance mentions a previous PIN or password; Samsung Australia also describes a previous pattern as a possibility. Use this only if the device presents it as an option: availability varies by model and software version. See Samsung Australia’s factory-reset guidance.
3. Allow for a password-change delay
If you recently changed the Google account password, Samsung US warns that a 24-hour cooldown may apply before the new password works on the reset phone. If the new password is rejected during that period, wait before trying again rather than concluding immediately that the account is wrong.

4. Contact Samsung service if verification still fails
If you are the original owner but cannot recall the account or complete verification, Samsung directs you to an authorized service center. Its US guidance says to bring proof of purchase. This is a referral for assistance, not a guarantee that a particular document or service outcome will be accepted in every country. Confirm requirements with Samsung in your region before visiting.

Ask the seller or prior owner to resolve the account association using their own credentials, or request a return. Google’s Android Help Community advice for second-hand devices is to obtain the previous owner’s account details or return the phone to the seller; this is community guidance, not a formal Google policy. The prior account is expected because the reset triggered an ownership check. Read the community response.

If the seller is unavailable, keep your receipt, listing, and messages, then ask Samsung support or an authorized service center what documentation your market accepts. Proof of purchase alone is not established as a guaranteed way to clear FRP for a second-hand buyer.

- Do not keep factory-resetting the phone in the hope of removing FRP. A reset does not substitute for the ownership check.
- Avoid third-party “unlock” tools and setup-screen workarounds. The supported sources describe account verification, a possible previous-lock check, and Samsung service—not a bypass procedure.
- A factory data reset deletes personal data stored on the phone. If the device is still accessible, back up important files before resetting.
Samsung’s current US instructions for an accessible Galaxy are Settings > General management > Reset > Factory data reset. Review the warning and confirm; if a Samsung account is signed in, the device may request its password. Menu labels can vary by model and software version. This is a preparation route for a phone you can access, not a fix for a device already stopped at FRP. See Samsung’s US factory-reset instructions.
