Google Home App Errors and Slowness: Google Says a Fix Is Rolling Out

Google says it is rolling out a fix for Google Home mobile app errors and slowdowns, but has not shared a completion timeline.

If Google Home is unusually slow, errors when you open linked devices, or shows “Internal error encountered” during a reinstall, the problem may be in the mobile app. Google says it is actively rolling out a fix. The report available on October 2, 2026, gives no completion time, so there is no confirmed estimate for when every affected user will be back to normal.

What is happening with the Google Home app?

Android Authority reported on October 2, 2026, that some people were encountering errors and very slow interactions in the Google Home apps for both Android and iOS. Reported symptoms include being unable to open linked devices and seeing an “Internal error encountered” message when trying to reinstall the app. Android Authority’s report says the web version appeared to work for affected users.

The report does not establish how many people are affected or identify a specific app version, device model, or region. It also does not explain the underlying cause, so these symptoms alone do not confirm that a particular device or home network is at fault.

Has Google acknowledged the problem, and when will it be fixed?

Yes. Google’s official Nest Community account said it is “actively rolling out a fix for this.” The report does not give a rollout percentage or a date by which the fix will reach everyone. That means Google has acknowledged the issue, but a precise recovery time is not available.

What can you try while waiting?

Use the web version if it works for you

Because the web version appeared to work for affected users, try it as a temporary way to access Google Home while the mobile app is misbehaving. This is a reported observation, not a guarantee that the web version will work for every account or situation.

Try clearing app data and changing networks

One user reported that clearing the Google Home app’s cache and storage, then switching to another Wi-Fi network, stopped the errors. Treat this as an anecdotal workaround rather than a confirmed or universal fix. Clearing storage may reset app data on your device, so be prepared to sign in again or recheck app settings afterward.

Is Google Home down for everyone?

The available report describes problems affecting some users, not a confirmed outage affecting everyone. It provides no prevalence statistic or independent incident count. If the app is still failing after the workaround, the reported rollout may not yet have reached you; the available information does not establish when that will happen.

Should you replace your speaker or router?

There is no evidence in the report that buying a new speaker, router, power accessory, or other hardware resolves this incident. Since Google has said a software fix is rolling out and the reported trouble centers on the mobile apps, avoid treating a hardware purchase as a solution to these particular errors.
