There is no reliable, Google-supported way to make Gemini available in every country. To resolve an access problem, first identify which Gemini product you are using, then check that product’s country availability and your account eligibility. If Gemini in Chrome fails in a supported country, Google recommends restarting Chrome and turning off a VPN.
First identify which Gemini product is blocked
“Gemini” covers several products with separate availability rules. A country listed for the mobile app is not necessarily supported for Gemini on the web, Gemini in Chrome, Google AI Studio, or the Gemini API. Start with the product that is actually showing the error.

- Gemini web app: Review Google’s Gemini Apps access guidance and sign-in requirements.
- Gemini mobile app: Check Google’s mobile app availability list. Google says the apps are available in more than 150 countries and territories, with expansion subject to local regulations. That figure applies to the mobile apps, not every Gemini product.
- Gemini in Chrome: Use Google’s product-specific Gemini in Chrome guidance.
- AI Studio or Gemini API: Check the separate AI Studio and Gemini API region requirements. These developer products do not determine consumer Gemini Apps availability.
Check whether your account is eligible
Country availability is only one possible reason for an access error. Google says “Something went wrong” can relate to location, age, or account type. Review the sign-in requirements for the product rather than assuming the message means your country is blocked.

- Work account: Access can depend on the organization’s Workspace edition, license, and administrator settings. See Google’s work or school account guidance.
- School account: The institution’s administrator must enable access. If Gemini is disabled or unavailable under the school’s settings, an individual user cannot turn it on independently.
If Gemini in Chrome fails in a supported country
Google’s troubleshooting advice for Gemini in Chrome is specific: when the feature should be available in your current country but does not work, restart Chrome and turn off your VPN. This is not a general fix for every Gemini product or every access error.

Understand what location settings can—and cannot—do
Google says Gemini Apps may estimate general location from your IP address or from Home and Work addresses saved in your Google Account. With permission, they may also use precise device location. You can review location-related privacy controls in Google’s Gemini Apps Privacy Hub, but the guidance does not say that changing those settings overrides a country restriction.

A VPN, changing your account country, or trying to make your location appear different is not an established, Google-supported way to gain access. In the specific supported-country troubleshooting case for Gemini in Chrome, Google advises turning a VPN off. A paid Google AI plan may add features for eligible accounts, but it does not establish that regional or organization-level restrictions will be removed.
