Yes—Gemini can generate short AI videos. Google’s consumer video-generation page describes an experience powered by Veo 3.1, with 8-second clips, generated sound, and text-to-video and image-to-video options. Google’s current AI plan page also uses Gemini Omni / Omni Flash terminology for video access, so the model name and available controls depend on the product surface and account.
For Gemini-app video generation, Google lists Google AI Plus, Pro, or Ultra access and an age requirement of 18 or older. Availability also depends on market, language, account type, and rollout. Gemini is most useful for a quick clip or animated still—not for editing a finished film.
What “Google Gemini AI Videos” means
“Google Gemini AI Videos” is not a separate standalone product. It refers to video-generation features in Gemini and related Google products. Gemini is the consumer app; Veo is Google’s video-generation technology, while current Google plan materials also identify Gemini Omni / Omni Flash for video access. Google’s consumer video page identifies Veo 3.1, but the AI plan comparison uses newer Omni terminology. Don’t assume every Google product uses the same model, duration, quality, controls, or quota.
| Google product | What it is suited to |
|---|---|
| Gemini app | Prompting a short clip or animating an image with a conversational interface. |
| Google Flow | Developing and assembling multi-shot, filmmaking-oriented sequences. |
| Google Photos | Photo-to-video and remix-style experiences where available. |
| Google Vids | Workplace and presentation-video workflows. |
| Google AI Studio / Gemini API | Developer experimentation and application workflows. |
| Vertex AI | Cloud and enterprise development workflows. |
These are distinct surfaces, not interchangeable names for one generator. Google positions Gemini for quicker short clips and Flow for more deliberate filmmaking; see its comparison of Gemini and Flow. Google’s Veo overview describes text-to-video, image-to-video, audio-and-video generation, and developer access points.

What Gemini can generate
- Text-to-video: Describe a subject, action, setting, camera, style, and sound.
- Image-to-video: Supply a still image and describe the movement or scene you want. Google has also promoted photo animation in its photo-to-video announcement.
- Reference-image guidance: Google describes using multiple reference images to guide characters, objects, or style in supported Veo 3.1 workflows. Access and controls depend on the product mode; see Google’s Veo 3.1 update.
- Sound: Google advertises native audio and says prompts can request dialogue, ambience, effects, or music. This does not guarantee accurate speech, timing, or professional sound.
- Vertical clips: Google says vertical video is supported; a vertical source image can help with mobile framing.
Google’s Gemini consumer overview specifies 8-second videos. Treat that as the specification for the consumer experience described on that page, not a universal duration for Flow, Google Photos, the API, Vertex AI, or every Omni/Veo mode. Google reports 1080p and 4K options for specified Flow, API, and Vertex workflows, not automatically for Gemini chat; see the Veo 3.1 announcement.
Who can use video generation in Gemini?
Google’s Gemini video page says the feature is for users aged 18 or older with a Google AI Plus, Pro, or Ultra plan, in supported markets and languages. Google’s Gemini help page and feature updates are the best places to check current account and availability details. A subscription does not guarantee that every video feature is enabled for every account or Google product.
Personal Gemini access and Google Workspace access are not necessarily the same. Google has noted that some video-generation experiences are unavailable to Workspace business and education plans. If you use a managed account, check your administrator’s policies and the applicable Workspace product before assuming a personal-plan feature will appear.

Plan details and limits
Google’s plan comparison lists these monthly Flow credits and storage amounts. Flow credits are for Flow; the figures do not establish how many Gemini-app videos a plan allows.

How to make a video in Gemini
On the web
- Open Gemini on the web and start or open a conversation.
- Open the tools menu and select Create video. Depending on the interface, it may be under a three-dot or more-options control.
- Enter a prompt describing the subject, action, setting, camera, style, and audio. Use the image control if you want to animate a still or provide a visual reference.
- Submit the request, review the generated clip, then use the controls Gemini shows to download or share it.
In the mobile app
- Open the Gemini app and tap the tools menu.
- Tap Create video. If it is not immediately visible, check the three-dot or expanded menu.
- Write your prompt and optionally add an image.
- Generate and review the clip, then share or save it using the available controls.
Google documents the general workflow in its Gemini video help instructions. Labels and controls can change as Google updates the app.

Write a prompt like a short production brief
A short clip has little room for competing actions. State the visual essentials first, keep the main action simple, specify framing and movement, then describe sound separately. Put identity-critical details—such as a character’s clothing or a product’s shape—near the beginning.
Text-to-video
Create an 8-second vertical video of a small red fox walking through a snowy pine forest at blue hour. Start with a wide establishing shot, then slowly track beside the fox at eye level. Photorealistic natural lighting, visible breath, soft wind through the trees, light pawsteps in snow, no captions, no extra animals.
Animate a product image
Animate the uploaded product image into an 8-second vertical product reveal. Keep the product’s shape, label, colors, and logo unchanged. Begin with a slow camera push-in, then rotate the product slightly on a dark stone surface. Add subtle studio ambience and a soft impact sound. Do not redesign the packaging or invent text.
Request dialogue and sound
Create an 8-second cinematic shot of the uploaded character in a rainy train station. The character looks toward camera and says, “Last train.” Use natural lip movement, rain ambience, distant station announcements, and one passing-train sound. No subtitles or on-screen text.
For a simple reusable structure, specify duration and aspect ratio, subject and action, location and lighting, shot and camera motion, identity constraints, audio, and unwanted additions. A request such as “no captions” can reduce unwanted text but cannot guarantee its absence. Generate multiple takes when the first result is only a draft; regard each clip as footage for an edit, not a finished production.
What it is good at—and where it falls short
Gemini is a practical starting point for quick visual ideation, animating a photograph or illustration, short social clips, simple character moments, and product concepts. Native audio can make a rough concept feel more complete. The results remain generated interpretations: a reference image guides a clip but does not guarantee exact preservation of faces, hands, text, logos, or product geometry.

Review clips frame by frame before publishing. Small lettering may change, and camera movement can expose inconsistencies that are hard to notice in a still preview. For product work, replace generated packaging text with a real overlay in an editor. Generated dialogue can mispronounce words or fall out of sync; effects may not match the action. Keep the option to replace the audio with a recorded voice, licensed music, or suitable sound effects.
Continuity can drift across characters, clothing, object dimensions, lighting, backgrounds, camera positions, and sound. Reference images and consistent wording may help, but they do not turn a series of generations into a reliably continuous film. Use Flow or an editor when you need sequencing, trims, captions, transitions, color work, audio mixing, or final export control.

Google says Veo videos generated in the Gemini app carry both a visible watermark and an embedded SynthID digital watermark. That provides provenance cues, but the visible mark may not suit a client deliverable or portfolio that requires a clean frame. Do not promise or expect watermark-free Gemini-app output. Google says people can ask Gemini whether an uploaded video was generated with Google AI; this is a detection aid, not proof of a video’s complete history. See the Veo 3.1 update.

Before uploading or publishing, consider permission, confidentiality, and rights. Avoid submitting private images without permission, client assets barred from third-party processing, confidential designs, or a person’s likeness for deceptive or unauthorized impersonation. Review Google’s Terms of Service and Prohibited Use Policy through the links in its Gemini help documentation, along with any applicable contract and local law. No general claim that generated output is safe for every commercial use follows from the feature itself.
Which Google or alternative tool should you choose?
| Your need | Starting point | Why |
|---|---|---|
| One quick clip or animated still | Gemini | Prompt-based, low-friction generation in the Gemini app. |
| Multi-shot story or filmmaking workflow | Google Flow | Google positions Flow for more structured scene creation, pacing, and cinematic work. See the Flow product page. |
| Dedicated generative-video workspace | Runway | A separate creator-oriented platform with its own models, editing tools, credits, and plan rules. Its Unlimited plan documentation says Veo 3 and Veo 3.1 are not available in Explore Mode; an unlimited plan should not be read as unlimited Veo access. |
| Adobe-centered creative workflow and model choice | Adobe Firefly | Adobe has described a multi-model environment that includes Google Veo where the applicable Firefly product and plan offer it. Availability and terms depend on that product; see Adobe’s Firefly page and plans page. |
| Application, batch workflow, or automation | AI Studio, Gemini API, or Vertex AI | Developer access is more suitable than a consumer chat interface when you need programmatic control. See Google’s Veo developer overview. |
For developer workflows, Google’s Veo pricing and configuration announcement covers specified configurations; API pricing and resolution should not be inferred from Gemini plan benefits. Likewise, Adobe’s model availability and commercial terms are not Google’s terms.
Troubleshoot common problems
Create video is missing
- Check that you are 18 or older and signed into an eligible account and plan.
- Confirm the feature is offered in your market and language, and allow for account rollout differences.
- If you use Workspace, check whether the administrator or plan restricts the feature.
- Look under expanded tools or the three-dot menu; try Gemini on the web and an updated mobile app.
- Check whether you have reached the current usage allowance. A subscription does not ensure every model or surface has the same quota.
An image upload is rejected
Check the current supported format and file-size rules in Google’s help page. The available input modes can differ by account and interface; do not assume that being able to analyze an existing video means you can use it as a video-to-video generation input.
The result changes the reference image
Start with a clean image, request one simple movement, and explicitly state what must remain unchanged. Make several versions and inspect them closely. For exact labels, small text, or critical branding, use a conventional editor to restore the real asset rather than relying on generated pixels.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors2Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute3Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsThe audio or quota is a problem
If speech pronunciation, timing, or synchronization is poor, replace it in post-production. If generation stops because of a limit, check the limit shown in that specific product; Flow credits, Gemini limits, and developer quotas are separate accounting contexts. Google’s plan page is the relevant place to verify plan benefits, but it does not establish a fixed number of Gemini clips per month.
