Google does not publish a maximum number of accounts or code entries that Google Authenticator can hold. Its official help page confirms that codes for multiple Google Accounts can sync to and display on one mobile device, but it does not state a numerical ceiling. The exact hard limit is therefore unknown—not a documented “unlimited” capacity.
What the limit means in practice
Google’s documentation describes support for multiple accounts, but gives no maximum entry count. That means there is no official number to use when planning a very long list, and the documentation does not establish that the app has no technical limit. Search and sorting can help manage codes, but they do not increase or define capacity. Google’s Authenticator help page is the source for the currently documented features.

Can it hold codes for multiple Google Accounts?
Yes. Google says Authenticator can sync codes for multiple Google Accounts and display them from the same mobile device. The statement confirms multi-account support; it does not attach a maximum number to it. Authenticator can also generate verification codes without an internet connection or mobile service.

How to manage a long list of codes
- Search for a code by text matching its username.
- Drag codes to reorder them.
- On Android, edit a code’s username or its associated Google Account.
These organization features can make a larger collection easier to navigate. Google does not say how many entries can be searched, reordered, or stored.

How to move codes to another phone
Google documents two approaches. Choose based on whether you want codes synced through a Google Account or kept on the device, and whether you can access the old phone.
Sync with a Google Account
Sign in to your Google Account in Authenticator on the new device. Google says the codes sync automatically. Sync requires Authenticator version 6.0 or later on Android and version 4.0 or later on iOS, according to Google’s help page. Google says Authenticator codes synced across its products are encrypted in transit and at rest.

Transfer codes without a Google Account
If you use Authenticator without signing in, codes are stored on that device and are not available on your other devices. To transfer them, use the app’s QR-code export and import process while the old device is available. When transferring multiple accounts, the old device may generate more than one QR code.

Sync, Privacy Screen, additional 2-Step Verification methods, and passkeys can help with security or account recovery; none increases Authenticator’s documented capacity. Keep another way to verify your identity available so losing access to the phone does not leave you without a recovery route. Google’s help page also notes that Android requires version 6.0 or later to use Authenticator. Its time-correction setting is no longer available in app version 7.0; the app uses the operating system’s time setting instead. Because these interface and version details can change, check Google’s current Authenticator guidance for the latest requirements.
