What Google Song Search history is (and why it matters)
Song Search history is a record of recent searches tied to songs you looked up using Google features on your phone. Instead of redoing the same search, you can return to prior results and pick up where you left off.
In many cases, it’s surfaced inside the Google app and also linked to your Google Activity settings. That means your history visibility can depend on whether Web & App Activity is enabled.

Prerequisites on Android
- Android phone with the Google app installed (update it first).
- Signed in to your Google Account on the device.
- Location and network permissions aren’t always required for history, but they can affect song search behavior and the ability to generate searchable results.
- Activity settings matter: if you’ve paused or turned off Web & App Activity, history may not appear.
If you’re unsure whether you have the new feature, update the Google app from the Play Store and check for an option related to history inside your app settings.
How to access Song Search history in the Google app
Start with the most direct path: your Google app. Depending on your version and screen layout, the wording can vary slightly, but the flow is typically consistent.
Method A: From your Search history area in the Google app
- Open the Google app on your Android phone.
- Tap your profile icon (top-right) or open Settings.
- Look for an option related to Search history or History.
- If you see a category for songs, select Song Search (or a similarly named filter).
- Tap an entry to open the related song/search result.
If the app doesn’t show a dedicated Song Search section, try the My Activity method below. That’s the most reliable fallback because it’s tied to Google’s activity system.
Method B: From the app’s search UI (when filters are available)
- Open the Google app and focus the Search bar.
- Check whether the app shows recent searches or suggestions.
- If there are filters (for example, search types or categories), select the one that corresponds to Song or Music.
- Choose an item from the list to view it again.
Some builds show recent searches without a dedicated filter. In that case, you may need My Activity to view song-specific search history.
How to access Song Search history in My Activity
When a feature doesn’t appear in-app, My Activity usually still has the underlying records. Song Search history is commonly stored under your broader activity logs.

- HDMI 2.1 cable required (sold separately)

- Watch live TV and access over 800 free channels from Pluto TV, Tubi, and more[3]; if you find an interesting show or movie on your TV, mobile app, or Google search, you can easily add it to your watchlist, so it’s ready when you are[2]

Step-by-step: View it from My Activity
- Open Chrome (or any browser) on your Android device.
- Go to
https://myactivity.google.com. - Sign in with the same Google Account you use on the phone.
- In the activity search bar, type song, music, or the terms you used.
- Filter results if you see category options, such as Search or Other activity types.
- Open an item to confirm it’s tied to a song search.
This approach helps even when the Google app UI doesn’t list Song Search history separately.
Use Activity types filters (when available)
On some versions, My Activity offers category filters. If you see options like Search or Web & App, select those first, then search within the results for song-related terms.

Controls: pause, delete, and manage Web & App Activity
Your ability to see Song Search history depends heavily on whether Google is allowed to store activity for you. The biggest lever is Web & App Activity.
Check Web & App Activity status
- Open Google app on Android.
- Tap your profile icon > Settings.
- Go to Privacy (or privacy-related controls).
- Open Manage your Google Account.
- Find Activity controls.
- Select Web & App Activity and check whether it’s On.
If Web & App Activity is off or paused, Song Search history may not populate or may appear limited.
Turn off future logging (pause)
- Go to Activity controls.
- Select Web & App Activity.
- Choose Pause.
- Confirm your choice on the prompt.
Pausing stops new entries from being recorded, but it doesn’t always remove old history immediately.

Delete Song Search history (or activity) from My Activity
- Open
https://myactivity.google.comin a browser. - Use the search box to find song-related entries.
- To delete a specific item, open it and select Delete.
- To delete a range, look for an option like Delete activity by & pick a timeframe.
- Confirm the deletion.
After deletion, the entry should stop showing in history views that rely on that activity data.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems2Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches3Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsTroubleshooting when Song Search history is missing
When Google rolls out features, availability can be staggered. But there are also common settings and sync issues that hide history.
1) Update Google app and reboot
- Open the Play Store.
- Search for Google and update it to the latest version.
- Restart your phone.
- Check the Google app history area again.
2) Verify you’re signed into the right account
- In the Google app, tap your profile icon.
- Confirm the account email matches the one where you want history.
- If you have multiple accounts, switch accounts and re-check.
3) Confirm Activity controls allow Web & App Activity
If Web & App Activity is paused/off, history may not appear. Turn it back on, wait briefly, then re-check Song Search history in the app or My Activity.
4) Check for recent network/auth sync delays
- Turn on Wi‑Fi or switch to a stable mobile connection.
- Open Google app and perform one new song search.
- Wait 1–24 hours, then check again (some activity indexing isn’t instant).
5) Use My Activity to verify the data exists
If you don’t see Song Search history in-app, but you do see it at myactivity.google.com, the data is being logged and only the UI surfacing is failing or restricted.
Privacy and what is (and isn’t) stored
Song Search history is part of how Google records activity tied to searches and requests you run while signed in. If you’ve restricted activity logging, you’ll likely see reduced history.

Clearing entries from My Activity removes the record, but it doesn’t always change how Google suggests content immediately—suggestions can be based on other signals too.

Depending on your app version and rollout state, the Song Search history UI might not be available. These alternatives help you regain access to past song lookups.
Search My Activity by keyword
In myactivity.google.com, search for the artist name or track name you previously used. This works even when there’s no “Song Search” filter visible.
Re-run the same song search query
If you remember the artist/title, re-search it once. Then check history again—new entries often appear sooner than old ones.
Use YouTube Music or Google search results if you remember the track
If the feature is missing in your Google app but you still have the track details, you can go directly to related results on YouTube Music or standard Google Search results and skip history entirely.

Common mistakes that block Song Search history
- Using an incognito/private browser for song searches: those sessions may not be recorded the same way.
- Being signed into the wrong Google account after switching phones or adding accounts.
- Turning off Web & App Activity or pausing it before you expect history to show.
- Not updating the Google app before checking for a newly added history feature.
- Expecting instant indexing: history can take time to appear, especially after a settings change.
Final Thoughts
On Android, Song Search history is easiest to access through the Google app’s history/search UI, but My Activity is your most dependable backup when the in-app list doesn’t show song entries.
If you don’t see it after updating and confirming you’re signed in, check Web & App Activity settings—most “missing history” issues come down to activity controls, not the song search itself.
FAQs
Why can’t I see Song Search history in the Google app?
It’s usually one of three things: the Google app isn’t updated to the version that includes the feature, you’re signed into a different account, or Web & App Activity is paused/off.
Does clearing Web & App Activity remove Song Search history?
Deleting or pausing activity controls affects the data that gets stored and shown. If you delete matching entries in My Activity, those specific history items should disappear from history views.
How long does it take for Song Search history to appear?
Some entries show quickly, but indexing can take longer. If you’ve just changed activity settings, re-check after a few hours or up to a day.
Will Song Search history appear if I’m not signed in?
Usually, no. Song search history relies on your Google Account to store and retrieve activity across sessions.
