Good Tape has raised fresh funding as it launches Explore, a feature designed to find connections between new recordings and a user’s existing transcript archive. Nordic Makers invested in the Copenhagen-based company while co-founder and CEO Lasse Finderup took majority ownership in a management buyout of Zetland’s stake, making Good Tape independent from the Danish newsroom where it began.
What is Good Tape Explore?
Explore is an archive-search feature for Good Tape users. Instead of only turning speech into text, it is intended to connect a new recording with relevant material already transcribed by that user. Tech.eu reported that Explore can surface changed opinions, contradictions, supporting arguments and other context, with links back to the original recordings. These are reported product capabilities, not results from an independent test.
The idea is to make an interview archive function more like organizational memory. A journalist tracking a source or subject over time could record a new interview, then use Explore to locate relevant earlier remarks and revisit the source audio. Good Tape CEO Lasse Finderup described the intended newsroom value this way: “You can add that extra layer that makes the article deeper.”
How could Explore help with old interviews?
- Record and transcribe. Add an interview to Good Tape so it can be considered alongside the user’s existing transcribed material.
- Look for connections. Explore may surface earlier remarks or other relevant context connected to a new recording, according to Tech.eu’s launch coverage.
- Return to the source. Follow the result to the original recording and check what was said, when it was said, and the surrounding context.
- Make the editorial call. Decide whether the material is accurate, relevant and fair to use in the story. A surfaced connection is a lead for verification, not proof of contradiction, intent or a person’s current belief.
That last step matters when an older interview appears to conflict with a source’s new account or with an expert’s view. A remark can reflect changed circumstances, a different question or a different context. Finderup said: “If you feel like you should get that quote approved, then you still do it.”

How does the funding relate to Good Tape’s management buyout?
Nordic Makers invested in Good Tape, with Alexander Aghassipour leading the investment and joining the board, Tech.eu reported. The investment coincided with a management buyout: Finderup took majority ownership and bought out Zetland’s stake. As Finderup put it, “We solved it with a management buyout.” The change separated Good Tape from the newsroom that had created it as an internal tool.
The amount is not settled by the available reporting. Tech.eu did not disclose a figure; EU-Startups reported the investment as €600,000. That amount should therefore be attributed to EU-Startups, not treated as confirmed by both publications.

Why did Good Tape begin at Zetland?
Zetland’s journalists wanted accurate transcripts without sending sensitive interview material to outside services, so the newsroom built Good Tape for internal use. The company has since broadened its intended audience to journalists, researchers, consultants, lawyers and public-sector teams, according to Tech.eu.
Tech.eu reported that Good Tape said it had reached 3 million users in more than 150 countries and processed more than 15 million transcriptions in over 100 languages. These are company figures reproduced by the publication, not independently audited statistics.

What was reported about Explore’s price and data handling?
At the 1 October 2026 launch, Tech.eu reported that Explore would initially be free, while Finderup said a charge could be introduced later. That launch description does not establish current pricing or eligibility terms.
Tech.eu also reported that Good Tape has ISO 27001 certification, complies with GDPR, stores data in the EU and does not train AI models on customer data. Those are claims reported by the publication; they are not independently verified here, so readers handling sensitive recordings should check Good Tape’s current official security and privacy materials before relying on them.

- Explore is described as a way to search connections across an existing transcript archive, not simply a transcription feature.
- Check any surfaced insight against the original recording, dates and context before using it.
- The available coverage does not establish independent accuracy testing or a controlled comparison with competing products.
