The Godox C100 is a tiny, screen-free digital camera with a transparent viewfinder-style display and a built-in reflective light meter. Its unusual design is more compelling than its imaging: in his September 21, 2026 review, PCMag’s Jim Fisher found the C100 awkward to hold and reported weak photo and video quality. Its more practical appeal may be as a casual exposure meter for film photography, though its reflective reading is not a substitute for every kind of metering.
What is the Godox C100?
Godox calls it the Transparent Viewfinder Camera C100 and describes it as the company’s first camera with a built-in light meter. Instead of a conventional rear screen for reviewing pictures, it has a transparent optical viewfinder that overlays framing guides and shooting information. That design means you compose through the viewfinder without immediate image playback.

Godox presents the C100 as a low-barrier everyday camera. Its official product page lists still-photo and video capture, four aspect ratios, USB Type-C data transfer, phone preview and export through an OTG connection, and a built-in TF card slot supporting cards up to 128 GB. Godox lists the camera at approximately 65 g, with more than 1.5 hours of continuous-shooting battery life and an operating temperature range of 5–40°C. These are manufacturer specifications, not independently tested results. Godox’s official C100 product page lists firmware C100_V1.1.3 dated 2026-09-07.

Framing without a playback screen
The transparent viewfinder overlays framing and shooting information while you compose. Godox lists four selectable image ratios: 16:9, 4:3, 3:2, and 1:1. The trade-off is that you do not have a conventional rear screen for checking the image immediately after taking it.

Reflective exposure readings
Godox says the C100’s meter is center-weighted and reads brightness from the central 25% of the frame. In practice, that is a reflective reading: it measures light coming back from the subject rather than light falling onto it. Fisher reports that the camera lets you set two exposure variables—ISO, aperture, or shutter speed—and calculates the third. In his use, its reading matched the Pocket Light Meter iOS app, but that was not a controlled accuracy test.
How good are the C100’s photos and video?
Fisher’s September 2026 review reports 2 MP stills in 16:9, washed-out color, limited dynamic range, and a minimum focusing distance of about four feet. He judged the resulting image quality comparable to a low-quality dashcam. For video, he reports 1080p capture with jerky motion and poor sound.

Those are the reviewer’s reported results and judgments, not findings from an independent test here. They point to the right expectation: the C100 is best considered a lo-fi novelty camera, not a replacement for a phone or a capable digital camera when image quality matters.
Is the Godox C100 comfortable to use?
Fisher found the camera uncomfortable to hold. He also reported needing to hold the viewfinder close to his eye, which made its frame lines and reticle difficult for him to see and complicated composition. Those are his handling observations, not a universal ergonomics assessment, but they are worth weighing if you expect to shoot for long stretches.

Visually, he found the transparent front distinctive, likening it to a prop from an old science-fiction film; he thought the doodle artwork on the rear weakened that effect. The unusual appearance is central to the C100’s appeal, but it does not resolve the handling and image-quality compromises he describes.
Can you use the C100 as a light meter for film photography?
Yes, for reflective metering: the C100 can provide an exposure reading that may help you set a film camera’s ISO, aperture, and shutter speed. It is most useful when the area its center-weighted reading samples is representative of the subject. A mostly white or black scene, or a backlit subject, can mislead a reflective meter because the meter measures reflected brightness rather than the light falling on the subject.

For those situations, an incident meter with a white dome measures light falling onto the subject. Fisher says this approach can be useful when working close to a subject, including with film or studio strobes, and names the Sekonic L-398A as one example. His September 2026 review listed it at $269; that is a dated price, not a current quote. He also notes that electronic viewfinders on modern digital cameras make a separate incident meter unnecessary for many users. Neither metering method is universally best: the useful choice depends on the subject, camera, and lighting setup.
Should you buy the C100 or choose another kind of camera?
Choose based on what you want the device to do, rather than its unusual styling alone.

| What you want | What the C100 offers | What to consider |
|---|---|---|
| Screen-free, lo-fi snapshots | Transparent viewfinder framing with no conventional playback screen | Fisher reports low-resolution stills, washed-out color, limited dynamic range, and awkward handling. |
| An exposure aid for film photography | A built-in, center-weighted reflective meter | It can be fooled by strongly reflective, very dark or bright, and backlit scenes; an incident meter measures light falling on the subject instead. |
| Creative filters or a toy-camera look | The C100’s appeal is its unusual viewfinder and low-fi results | Fisher says the Kodak Charmera and Camp Snap models offer filters. His review also discusses nostalgic styling and blind-box sales for the Charmera, but does not provide a controlled comparison across these cameras. |
| More dependable image quality | The C100 prioritizes its distinctive design over conventional camera feedback | Consider a more capable digital camera or your phone if image detail, color, video motion, or sound matters. |
