GoDaddy is retiring its dedicated-server service. The company says it will move customers to VPS hosting when possible and recommends arranging migration proactively. That makes this less a review of a service new customers can buy and more a guide for current customers deciding whether GoDaddy’s proposed VPS destination will work for their workloads.
Is GoDaddy discontinuing dedicated servers?
Yes. GoDaddy’s official help page says, “All Dedicated Servers will be retired, and when possible, migrated to VPS Hosting.” GoDaddy recommends that customers migrate proactively. The notice does not establish an account-specific migration date, so confirm your timeline directly with GoDaddy rather than assuming when your server will be moved. This change means GoDaddy dedicated servers should not be treated as a current new-purchase option. The practical question for existing customers is whether the assigned VPS can run their applications reliably, and what changes migration will require.

GoDaddy publishes the following destination mapping. These are listed plan specifications, not independent performance results or proof that a virtual machine will behave like a dedicated physical server under every workload.

The figures come from GoDaddy’s migration page, accessed in 2026. They do not establish CPU contention, guaranteed physical isolation, storage performance, network limits, or workload-level equivalence. Ask GoDaddy to confirm the destination assigned to your account and compare its actual limits with your application’s needs before committing to a migration date.
Will the migration cost more?
GoDaddy says that if migration requires a higher VPS plan, the renewal price will remain the same or decrease. This is a statement about renewal after migration; it does not settle every possible charge, add-on, contract term, or future price change. Get your account-specific renewal amount and terms in writing before the move.
GoDaddy also says it offers a one-month free coupon for a new VPS so customers can migrate and test the environment, and that customers can contact a GoDaddy Guide about the coupon. Confirm eligibility and how the coupon applies to your account rather than assuming it is automatic or recurring.

Does the VPS replace the dedicated server in performance?
Not necessarily in every meaningful sense. The published mapping may preserve or increase listed vCPU, memory, and disk figures, but those numbers alone cannot establish equivalent physical resource isolation or application performance. A VPS is a virtualized environment; the migration page does not provide independent benchmarks or a guarantee that every workload will perform the same.
GoDaddy describes the VPS options as offering SSD or NVMe storage, snapshot backups, easier upgrades and scaling, and comparable performance in North America, Europe, and Asia-Pacific at the same or lower price. Those are GoDaddy’s stated benefits, not independent verification of performance for an individual customer. Test the assigned VPS using your own application, traffic patterns, and administrative tasks before routing production traffic to it.
Can migration cause downtime?
Yes. GoDaddy explicitly warns that extended downtime may occur and says it will try to keep it as low as possible. Its documentation does not promise a zero-downtime transfer or state a guaranteed migration duration. Set a maintenance window with a contingency plan, and confirm who is responsible for each migration step.

Pre-migration checks
- Inventory the applications, databases, scheduled jobs, firewall rules, and services running on the current server.
- Confirm the destination’s operating system, control panel, storage, network limits, and account-specific resource allocation.
- Make and verify backups, then establish how you would restore the original service if the migration fails.
- Test application behavior, control-panel access, DNS, email delivery, and any integrations on the VPS before relying on it.
- Confirm expected downtime, the migration window, and the process for switching traffic back if validation fails.
- Ask GoDaddy about your account’s IP address changes, including IPv6: its page says IPv6 addresses cannot be retained in a migration scenario it describes.
These are practical precautions in response to the stated downtime risk, not steps GoDaddy guarantees to perform for every customer. Document the answers and test results before authorizing a production cutover.
How can control-panel users migrate?
GoDaddy identifies different migration routes for common control panels. The appropriate method depends on the installed panel and the server configuration.

GoDaddy’s page names these tools but does not guarantee that they will transfer every application setting, external dependency, or customization without intervention. Review application-specific data and configuration after the transfer, and coordinate the procedure and downtime expectations with GoDaddy or your administrator. How should customers decide whether to stay on the assigned VPS?
Evaluate the destination against the requirements of your actual workload, not just the mapped CPU, RAM, and disk figures. For each item below, get the specific terms that apply to your account and test where possible.
- Resource model: Clarify how vCPU and memory are allocated and whether any physical-resource guarantees apply.
- Storage and network: Check disk type and capacity, bandwidth or network limits, and expected latency from the data-center location to your users.
- Administration and support: Confirm which operating systems and control panels are supported, what management tasks are included, and who handles migration issues.
- Recovery: Understand snapshot and backup options, retention, restoration steps, and whether your own off-server backup is needed.
- Security: Review the protections and responsibilities that apply to your configuration, including any DDoS or firewall features you rely on.
- Commercial terms: Compare renewal pricing with any introductory or coupon period, and verify the post-migration amount for the account.
- Addressing: Check IPv4 and IPv6 requirements, DNS changes, allowlists, and any services tied to the server’s current IP address.
GoDaddy’s current VPS listings may vary by region and tier. One surfaced listing showed first-three-year-term prices in Philippine pesos; that is not a US price or a permanent monthly rate. Check the current checkout page for your region and your account’s actual renewal terms rather than applying a regional promotional figure elsewhere.
