This guide covers God of War Ragnarök. Its accessibility settings let you choose a preset, then tune combat, exploration, readability, audio, motion, and HUD options individually. The settings documented here should not be assumed to match every other God of War release or platform.
How to change accessibility settings in Ragnarök
Open the game’s Options menu and choose Accessibility. You can start with one of the four presets—Vision, Hearing, Motion Reduction, or Motor Accessibility—at Off, Some, or Full, then adjust individual options to suit your preferences. A preset changes relevant settings as a group; settings it changes appear in blue, making it easier to see what to review.

A preset is a starting configuration, not a diagnosis or a requirement. Try Some or Full if you want a quick starting point, inspect the blue-marked values, and change anything that does not work for you. PlayStation’s current accessibility guide lists over 70 accessibility features. Santa Monica Studio described “more than 60 ways to adjust gameplay” in its May 19, 2022 feature announcement; that was the announcement’s count at the time.

Which settings can make combat more manageable?
Combat assistance, input style, and difficulty are separate choices. You can adjust assistance without changing the difficulty mode, or change both.
#1 Best Overall
- Feel your journey through the Norse realms, made possible by immersive haptic feedback and adaptive trigger functionality.
- Take advantage of multidirectional 3D Audio; hear enemies approaching from any direction. (3D audio with stereo headphones (analog or USB))
- Bask in the beautiful worlds you travel through, brought to life by precise art direction and arresting attention to detail.
- Switch between full 4K resolution at a targeted 30 frames per second, or dynamic resolution upscaled to 4K at a targeted 60fps. (4K resolution requires a compatible 4K TV or display)
Aim assist and lock-on
- Aim Assist: Choose Off, Classic, or Classic+. The feature adds momentary strafe assistance and target friction. Classic+ targets the closest enemy to the reticle, even if that enemy is elsewhere on screen.
- Puzzle Aim Assist: Turn it on to snap the reticle to a nearby puzzle target. It applies to puzzle aiming, rather than automatically solving puzzles.
- Lock-On Camera: Choose Off, Classic, Auto-Target, or Auto-Target+. Lock-on keeps the selected enemy in view until an event or action breaks the lock; the modes change how targets are selected.
- Recenter Camera on Attack: Choose Off, Classic, Priority, or Priority+. This moves the camera behind Kratos during melee actions. Priority modes favor nearby enemies, and Priority+ also considers enemies off-screen.
Pickups, checkpoints, and input effort
- Auto Pickup: Essentials, Economy, and Full determine which health or rage items and other resources are collected as you approach them.
- Miniboss Checkpoints: After a death, a miniboss that has taken enough damage can restart with reduced health. This option is unavailable on Give Me No Mercy and Give Me God of War.
- Repeated-button actions: Where an action offers a repeated press or hold style, choose the input that is more comfortable than repeatedly tapping or holding.
- Aim and block: Choose hold or toggle input styles, depending on the available control option and preference.
- Evade style, control schemes, and remapping: Try the available evade and control options, or remap buttons, to reduce awkward reaches or repeated effort.
- Vibration intensity: Use the slider to reduce or adjust controller vibration.
These options change how you interact with the game; none is automatically the best choice for every player. Adjust one or two at a time so you can tell which input feels more comfortable.
How Navigation Assist and Traversal Assist differ
Navigation Assist points the camera toward an objective
Outside combat, press the Lock-on Button to turn the camera toward the current story objective or the objective selected on the map. You can pair Navigation Assist with a swipe activation. PlayStation describes the action as orienting the camera toward the current story or map-selected objective; it does not automatically guide you along every route.
Traversal Assist reduces movement inputs
Traversal Assist automates specified movement interactions. Auto covers vaulting, mantling, jumping gaps, and descending ledges. Auto+ adds crawls, presses, and climb points. It does not mean that the game navigates every route or completes every puzzle for you.
Rank #2
Puzzle timing and aiming
Puzzle timing is included among the options covered by the Vision preset. Puzzle Aim Assist can snap your reticle to a nearby target. These options can reduce timing or aiming demands, but they are distinct from Navigation Assist and Traversal Assist.
Settings for low vision and readability
Text, subtitles, and icons
UI text size and subtitle or caption size are separate controls. UI text offers Default, Large, X-Large, and XX-Large; icons offer Small, Default, Large, and X-Large. The Vision preset also includes text and icon sizing, audio cues, navigation and traversal aids, puzzle timing and aim assist, and other options.
High contrast and color
High Contrast Display offers presets and individual color categories for elements such as the player, enemies, hazards, traversal markings, and background. High Contrast HUD adds a dark backing behind interface elements. Color filters and UI color correction are also available. Adjust these independently if a preset’s combination is not suitable.
Rank #3
- Launch Edition includes in-game downloadable content Kratos Risen Snow Armor & Atreus Risen Snow Tunic (Cosmetic)
- Feel your journey through the Norse realms, made possible by immersive haptic feedback and adaptive trigger functionality.
- Take advantage of multidirectional 3D Audio; hear enemies approaching from any direction. (3D audio with stereo headphones (analog or USB)
HUD visibility
Where listed, HUD elements can be set to On, Swipe, or Off. The configurable elements include the compass, enemy and boss health bars, off-screen enemy indicators, combat HUD, gameplay notifications, and aim reticle. Swipe provides an alternative to keeping an element continuously visible; turning an element off removes it from the display.

The Hearing preset groups options including subtitles, captions, direction indicators, speaker names, and subtitle or caption backgrounds. Individual audio and text options include:
- Subtitles and captions: Enable the text information you want, and adjust its size, background, and blur where available.
- Direction indicators and speaker names: Add information about where a sound is coming from or who is speaking.
- Voice boost and center-pan dialogue: Adjust dialogue presentation if voices are difficult to distinguish in the mix.
- Mono audio: Enable mono support if that better suits your listening setup.
- Audio Cues: Add sounds or spoken directional information for certain prompts and traversal or combat actions.
The Screen Reader narrates selected menus in English. The documented screens are Start, Onboarding, Options, Tutorials, Realm Selection, and Auto-equip; it is not described as a screen reader for all gameplay screens.

Settings for motion sensitivity
The Motion Reduction preset groups options such as camera sway and shake, cinematic smoothing, a persistent dot, motion blur, film grain, and camera controls. You can also adjust individual settings rather than applying the whole preset.
- Camera Shake and Ambient Camera Sway: Each has a 0–10 slider. Lower values reduce the corresponding camera movement.
- Motion Blur and Film Grain: Each has a 0–10 slider for adjusting the effect.
- Cinematic Smoothing: Smooths camera movement during cinematics where possible.
- Persistent center dot: Enable a center dot and choose from several sizes and colors.
There is no single prescribed setting for every player. Try changing the effect that bothers you first, then adjust further if needed.
How difficulty differs from accessibility settings
Difficulty changes the combat challenge; accessibility presets configure groups of assistance and presentation options. PlayStation’s US Ragnarök FAQ lists five modes:
Best Value
- Those who break fate: Atreus seeks knowledge to help him understand the prophecy of "Loki" and what role he is to play in Ragnarök. Kratos must decide whether he will be chained by the fear of repeating his mistakes or break free of his past to be the father Atreus needs.
- Weapons of war : The Leviathan Axe, Blades of Chaos and Guardian Shield return alongside a host of new abilities for both Kratos and Atreus. As they take on gods and monsters from across the Nine Realms, Kratos's deadly Spartan skills will be tested like never before as he fights to protect his family.
- Explore the realms :Journey to dangerous and stunning landscapes and face a wide variety of enemy creatures, monsters and Norse gods as Kratos and Atreus search for answers and allies.

| Mode | Combat focus |
|---|---|
| Give Me Story | Least combat focus |
| Give Me Grace | Story focus with some combat |
| Give Me Balance | Equal focus on story and combat |
| Give Me No Mercy | Demanding combat |
| Give Me God of War | Most difficult |
Give Me God of War can only be selected when starting a new game. You can reduce difficulty during a playthrough, but after lowering it you cannot raise it again without restarting.
Does this guide apply to God of War (2018)?
Not as a menu-by-menu guide. Santa Monica Studio says Ragnarök retained accessibility features from God of War (2018) and expanded them, but that does not establish that every setting or label described here is available in every edition of the earlier game. The detailed controls in this article are for God of War Ragnarök.
