The GMKtec EVO-X5 Pro’s 192 GB memory ceiling is a platform-generation change, not just a larger configuration of an earlier Strix Halo mini PC. The EVO-X5 Pro uses AMD’s Ryzen AI Max+ PRO 495, which supports up to 192 GB of LPDDR5x-8533; the earlier Ryzen AI Max+ PRO 395 generation tops out at 128 GB. That extra capacity can matter when a workload’s combined system and graphics-memory needs exceed 128 GB, but it does not establish that the EVO-X5 Pro is faster overall.
What changes between the EVO-X5 Pro and 395-based mini PCs?
GMKtec lists the EVO-X5 Pro with AMD’s Ryzen AI Max+ PRO 495 and up to 192 GB of unified memory. Earlier systems such as GMKtec’s EVO-X2 and EVO-X3 are relevant examples of mini PCs based on the Ryzen AI Max+ PRO 395, whose official maximum is 128 GB. The 495 belongs to AMD’s Ryzen AI Max PRO 400 Series, codenamed Gorgon Halo; the 395 is part of the Ryzen AI Max PRO 300 Series, codenamed Strix Halo.
| Specification | Ryzen AI Max+ PRO 495 (EVO-X5 Pro) | Ryzen AI Max+ PRO 395 systems |
|---|---|---|
| Maximum system memory | 192 GB LPDDR5x-8533, 256-bit, per AMD | 128 GB maximum, per AMD |
| CPU cores / threads | 16 / 32, Zen 5 | 16 / 32, Zen 5 |
| Maximum boost clock | Up to 5.2 GHz | Up to 5.1 GHz |
| Integrated graphics | Radeon 8065S, 40 graphics cores | Not stated here; check the exact processor and system specification |
| NPU performance | Up to 55 TOPS | Not stated here; check AMD’s exact processor specification |
These are processor and platform specifications, not measurements of a complete mini PC. The 495’s slightly higher listed boost clock and its graphics and NPU specifications cannot by themselves predict sustained performance, fan noise, power use, or application speed. GMKtec lists 2 TB and 4 TB PCIe 4.0 SSD configurations for the EVO-X5 Pro; confirm the precise storage and memory configuration on the regional listing before buying. See AMD’s 495 specifications, 395 specifications, and GMKtec’s EVO-X5 Pro product page.
When does 192 GB of memory make a practical difference?
Workloads that exceed a 128 GB system’s capacity
The clearest reason to choose 192 GB is capacity: a larger working set can fit when it would not fit within a 128 GB system’s available memory. That may be useful for local AI workloads or other memory-intensive tasks that need substantial system and graphics memory at the same time. If your applications and data comfortably fit within 128 GB, the larger maximum may not change what you can do.

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
Unified memory is not automatically all graphics memory
AMD says the 495 supports up to 160 GB of dedicated graphics memory. That is an allocation capability, not a claim that all 192 GB is permanently reserved as VRAM. The amount available to a particular workload depends on system configuration, operating-system allocation, software and runtime support, and the memory needed by other processes.
For local language models, memory capacity alone does not establish practical speed or usability. Model quantization, context length, runtime overhead, compatibility, and the rest of the workload affect whether a model fits and how it performs. AMD describes support for models with more than 300 billion parameters at 4-bit quantization in its Ryzen AI Max PRO 400 Series announcement. GMKtec’s launch announcement claims local operation of models up to 320 billion parameters. These are publisher capability claims, not independent demonstrations or guarantees of a particular model’s speed, context length, or compatibility.

Is the EVO-X5 Pro faster than a 395-based Strix Halo mini PC?
The available specifications do not answer that question. No independent comparative benchmark, thermal measurement, noise measurement, or measured efficiency result for the EVO-X5 Pro was established here. The 495 is a different processor generation, but that fact and its maximum specifications do not prove a system-level speedup. Results will also depend on the specific mini PC’s power limits, cooling, memory configuration, firmware, drivers, and workload.
Compare measured results for the exact systems and tasks you care about. For sustained workloads, look for performance after the system has warmed up, not only short burst results. For an AI workload, check the model, quantization, context length, runtime, and memory allocation used in the test; otherwise, headline figures may not describe your use case.

How should you choose between the EVO-X5 Pro and a 395 mini PC?
Start with the amount of memory your real workload needs, then evaluate the complete system. A 395-based system remains a rational choice if 128 GB is enough and its total price and performance better suit your needs. The EVO-X5 Pro is worth considering when the extra capacity solves a specific constraint or provides useful headroom.
- Memory fit: Estimate the combined system and graphics-memory demand of your applications. Do not treat the processor’s maximum as a promise that every program can use it in the same way.
- Exact configuration: Verify the memory and SSD capacities on the specific regional SKU. GMKtec lists 2 TB and 4 TB PCIe 4.0 SSD options for the EVO-X5 Pro, but listings and availability can vary.
- Sustained behavior: Seek comparable testing under your intended load, including sustained performance and thermal or acoustic measurements. Do not infer these from a processor specification.
- Compatibility: Confirm operating-system, driver, and AI-runtime support for the applications and models you plan to use.
- Ownership details: Compare ports, networking, warranty, regional service, current price, and stock for the actual seller and market.
AMD’s June 2026 announcement said OEM availability for the Ryzen AI Max PRO 400 Series was expected in Q3 2026. That schedule does not establish current availability for a particular mini PC; check the seller’s listing in your region. GMKtec’s EVO Series lineup can help identify its related systems, but verify each model’s exact processor and memory limit.
