Gmail for Android can do more than sort and send mail: swipe actions speed up triage, notification controls limit interruptions, snooze brings follow-ups back later, and scheduled send lets you time outgoing messages. Here’s how to set up each tool—and what to know about confidential mode and optional Gemini features.
How do I change Gmail swipe actions on Android?
Assign the actions you use most to a left or right swipe so routine messages take fewer taps. Gmail’s available choices include archive, delete, mark read or unread, move to a label, and snooze. Exact labels and menus can vary by app version.

- Open the Gmail app and tap the menu, then Settings.
- Tap General settings, then Mail swipe actions.
- Choose Change for the left or right swipe and select an action.

How do I snooze emails in Gmail on Android?
Snooze removes a message from your inbox temporarily and returns it at the time you choose. It works well as a follow-up queue for mail you cannot handle now but do not want to forget.

- Open the message, tap More, then Snooze.
- Choose a suggested time or select a day and time for the message to return.
For faster access, assign Snooze to a swipe using Settings → General settings → Mail swipe actions. Find snoozed messages in the Snoozed folder or search in:snoozed. Gmail notifications must be on if you want an alert when the message returns. Google explains the feature in its Gmail snooze guide.
How do I schedule an email in Gmail on Android?
Scheduled send is useful when you have a message ready but want it to go out later. The time zone used is the one selected when you schedule it, and delivery may not happen at the exact minute.

- Compose your message.
- Tap More options, then Schedule send.
- Choose a suggested time or select a date and time.
To stop a scheduled message, open the Scheduled folder and cancel the send; Gmail returns the message to drafts. Google allows up to 100 scheduled messages and notes that delivery may be a few minutes after the selected time. See the Gmail scheduled-send instructions.

Notifications have two layers: Android must allow Gmail to notify you, and Gmail must be configured to notify you for the account or mail you care about. If alerts are missing, check both.

- In Android’s device settings, allow notifications for Gmail.
- In Gmail, open Settings, select the account, then tap Email notifications and choose the level you want, such as high priority only.
- If you want alerts for a particular label, make sure that label is synced, then configure its notifications in Gmail’s label settings.

What does Gmail confidential mode protect?
Confidential mode lets you set an expiry date, revoke access before expiry, and restrict recipients’ ordinary options to forward, copy, print, or download message text and attachments. You can also require an SMS passcode; availability depends on region.

It is not a guarantee against copying or a way to make sensitive disclosures risk-free. Google warns that recipients can still take screenshots or photos, and malicious programs may copy or download content. Read Google’s confidential mode guide before relying on it.

Gemini features are an optional layer, not a standard capability every Android user can assume they have. Availability varies by account type and plan, language, geography, and platform, and Google’s feature list can change. Check the current eligibility details in Google’s Gemini app availability information before expecting a particular Gmail-related capability.
