Gmail for Android has quick message actions and account settings that can make email easier to manage. Here are 16 useful features, with the paths to find them and the limits worth knowing. Menu labels can vary slightly by app version; Google does not publish an official list of “16 hidden gems.”
Quick actions for messages
1. Undo a message right after sending
After sending an email, tap Undo in the notification banner at the bottom of the screen. This is a brief chance to stop the send, not a way to recall a message after it has been delivered. 2. Schedule an email
In a new message, open More and choose Schedule send, then select a suggested time or choose your own. Gmail uses the time zone in effect when you schedule the message, and it may send a few minutes after the selected time. Google’s Schedule send instructions.

Gmail supports up to 100 scheduled emails at once. To change one, open Scheduled, select the message, and cancel the send; Gmail returns it to drafts so you can edit and schedule it again. Google’s Schedule send instructions.
4. Snooze an email until later
Open a message, tap More, then Snooze, and select a date and time. Gmail removes it from the inbox temporarily and returns it to the top at the chosen time. Google’s snooze instructions.

5. Make snooze a swipe action
Open Menu → Settings → General settings → Mail swipe actions and assign Snooze to a left or right swipe. Gmail notifications need to be enabled if you want a notification when a snoozed message returns. Google’s snooze instructions.
6. Find snoozed messages
Search Gmail for in:snoozed, or open the Snoozed folder from the menu. This is useful when you need to check a message before its reminder time. Google’s snooze instructions.

7. Choose what a swipe does
Go to Menu → Settings → General settings → Mail swipe actions to set left and right swipes separately. Available actions include archive, delete, mark as read or unread, move to a label, and snooze. Google’s Android Gmail settings guide.

8. Switch to Priority Inbox
Open Menu → Settings, select the account, then look for Inbox type and choose Priority Inbox. You can return to Default Inbox from the same setting if you prefer Gmail’s standard layout. Google’s Android Gmail settings guide.
9. Tune inbox categories
In Menu → Settings, select an account and open the inbox-category controls to adjust which categories appear. The categories and options shown can depend on the account and its configuration, so your screen may not match another person’s exactly. Google’s Android Gmail settings guide.
10. Set a signature for one account
Go to Menu → Settings, select the account, and tap Mobile signature to create or change the text appended to messages sent from it. Choose the account first: account settings apply only to the selected account, while some general settings affect all accounts in the app. Google’s Android Gmail settings guide.

11. Turn on a vacation responder
Open Menu → Settings, select the account, and tap Vacation responder. Set the dates, subject, and response text, then enable it. The control is account-specific, so check the selected address before saving. Google’s Android Gmail settings guide.
12. Choose notification behavior
In Menu → Settings, select an account and open Notifications to choose which messages trigger alerts. The account’s notification and inbox sound or vibration options can also be adjusted there; general notification actions are available in the app’s general settings. Stay in control when offline or sharing
13. Choose how much mail to sync
In Menu → Settings, select an account and find the mail-sync period setting to choose how many days of messages Gmail keeps available on the device. Messages outside the synced span may not be available without an internet connection. Google’s Android Gmail settings guide.

14. Manage syncing and alerts by label
Open Menu → Settings, select an account, then tap Manage labels. Choose a label to review its sync and notification settings. This helps avoid treating every label the same way when you only need offline access or alerts for selected mail. Google’s Android Gmail settings guide.

While composing, open More → Confidential mode to set an expiration and, where available, require an SMS passcode. Confidential mode can disable ordinary forwarding, copying, printing, and downloading options, and you can revoke access before expiry. It cannot prevent a recipient from taking a screenshot or photograph, and Google warns that malicious software may still copy or download message content. Do not treat it as a guarantee of secrecy. 16. Try Smart Compose or the formatting toolbar
Smart Compose suggests text as you type; tap the suggestion to accept it. Google lists support for English, Spanish, French, Italian, and Portuguese, subject to smart features and controls being enabled. Suggestions are not answers to questions and may be factually wrong, so review them before sending. Find the setting under Menu → Settings → General settings. Google’s Smart Compose guide.

For manual styling, select text while composing and use the formatting toolbar for bold, italic, underline, text or background color, unordered lists, font selection, or clearing formatting. Google’s message-formatting guide.
Where to look when a setting is missing
Most account controls live under Menu → Settings; settings labeled General settings apply more broadly across Gmail accounts. Some controls may be unavailable on Android or differ by account configuration. If a menu item is absent, check that you selected the intended account and consult Google’s Android settings guide for the current availability and path.
