GigaByte SIV Not Working on Windows 11 [3 Proven Fixes 2024]

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

GIGABYTE SIV (System Information Viewer) is the kind of utility that works fine for months—until Windows 11 updates, a runtime dependency goes missing, or the app can’t access sensor data. When SIV stops launching, shows blank readings, or crashes immediately, you usually don’t need a full reinstall of Windows.

This guide walks you through 3 proven fixes for 2024 to get SIV working on Windows 11: installing the right Visual C++ runtimes, correcting permissions/compatibility, and performing a clean uninstall + reinstall of the correct SIV package for your motherboard.

If GigaByte SIV fails, Outbyte PC Repair can scan Windows system elements and settings for conflicts that may affect the utility.

What GIGABYTE SIV Does (and Why It Fails on Windows 11)

SIV reads hardware sensor data (CPU/GPU/VRM temps, fan RPM, voltages—depending on board support) through a combination of GIGABYTE software components and system-level APIs. On Windows 11, failures commonly come from missing Visual C++ runtimes, blocked access to monitoring components, or an outdated SIV build that doesn’t match your board/driver set.

Windows 11 can also be more strict about app permissions and component loading than older Windows versions, so “it worked on Windows 10” isn’t always enough to keep SIV stable.

Quick Triage: Identify the Exact Failure Mode

Before applying fixes, figure out what “not working” means on your PC. This speeds everything up and helps you choose the right fix.

  • App won’t launch: no window appears, or it flashes and closes.
  • Launches but shows nothing: sensor fields are empty/0, fans don’t update, or UI stays blank.
  • Crashes after a few seconds: frequent on missing runtimes or blocked components.
  • Only some readings work: often partial driver/software mismatch or motherboard model mismatch.
  • “Version unsupported” or similar errors: SIV package doesn’t match your board revision.

If you can, check Windows Event Viewer for the crash reason: Start → type Event Viewer → Windows Logs → Application. Look for an Application Error entry around the time you launch SIV.

Prerequisites Before You Fix Anything

These steps prevent false failures and reduce the chance you “fix” the wrong thing.

  • Confirm your motherboard model: check in Windows via System Information (msinfo32) or read the board label. SIV is board-specific.
  • Update chipset drivers: install the latest chipset driver from your motherboard vendor or AMD/Intel website for your platform.
  • Close conflicting monitor tools: tools like HWInfo, MSI Afterburner overlays, or RGB/fan utilities can sometimes interfere with sensor polling (not always, but enough to test).
  • Temporarily disable VPN/proxy if SIV downloads components or checks online resources (rare, but some internal flows do).

Fix #1: Install/Repair the Required Runtime Dependencies (Most Common Cause)

For many “won’t launch / crashes immediately” cases, the culprit is a missing or corrupted Microsoft Visual C++ runtime. This is especially common after a Windows 11 build update.

Step 1: Install the Visual C++ Redistributables (x86 and x64)

Use this sequence and install both architectures. SIV and its components may be built with older VC runtimes even if your Windows is current.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.
  1. Install Microsoft Visual C++ Redistributable 2015–2022 x64.
  2. Install Microsoft Visual C++ Redistributable 2015–2022 x86.

Download directly from Microsoft (search: “Microsoft Visual C++ Redistributable 2015-2022 x64 download” and “x86”). In 2024, the latest stable package for those redistributables typically includes the 14.x runtime family.

  • AMD Socket AM5: Supports AMD Ryzen 9000 / Ryzen 8000 / Ryzen 7000 Series Processors
  • DDR5 Compatible: 4*DIMMs
  • Power Design: 14+2+2
  • Thermals: VRM and M.2 Thermal Guard
  • Connectivity: PCIe 5.0, 3x M.2 Slots, USB-C, Sensor Panel Link

Step 2: Repair existing runtimes (optional but fast)

If you already have them installed, repair can help if the components were partially overwritten.

  1. Open Settings → Apps → Installed apps.
  2. Search for Microsoft Visual C++.
  3. Select the matching entries → choose Modify (if available) → pick Repair.

Step 3: Reboot and test SIV

Restart Windows, then launch SIV again. If the app now opens normally, keep going only if sensors still don’t populate.

If SIV still doesn’t show sensors

Even with correct runtimes, sensor readings can fail if the wrong motherboard SIV build is installed. That’s where Fix #3 usually matters most.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Fix #2: Run SIV With Correct Permissions and Compatibility Settings

Some SIV builds expect specific permissions for accessing sensor APIs and driver components. Windows 11 can block those behaviors depending on how the app is launched and whether SmartScreen applies restrictions.

Step 1: Run as Administrator

  1. Go to your SIV installation folder (commonly under C:\Program Files or C:\Program Files (x86)).
  2. Right-click System Information Viewer (or the SIV executable) → Run as administrator.
  3. Test whether the UI loads and sensor values update.

If that works, you’ll want to make it permanent (without relying on you to right-click every time).

Step 2: Permanently set admin + compatibility mode

  1. Right-click the SIV executable → Properties.
  2. Go to Compatibility.
  3. Check Run this program as an administrator.
  4. Enable Compatibility mode and try Windows 8 or Windows 7 (use whichever you prefer first).
  5. Click Apply → OK.

Then restart SIV and watch for sensor updates over 30–60 seconds.

Step 3: Allow through Windows Security

If Windows Security blocks SIV, you can see a working UI but broken sensor reads. Add an explicit allow rule.

  • EZ-Latch Plus:PCIe and M.2 slots with Quick Release & Screwless Design Ultra-Fast Storage:4*M.2 slots, including 3* PCIe 5.0 x4
  1. Open Windows Security → Firewall & network protection.
  2. Select Allow an app through firewall.
  3. Click Change settings.
  4. Click Allow another app and browse to the SIV executable.
  5. Enable both Private and Public (only if you need it; for most desktops Private is enough).
  6. Click Add → OK.

Also check Windows Security → App & browser control for any blocked behavior. If SmartScreen flagged the app, you may need to unblock the downloaded installer/executable.

Fix #3: Full Clean Uninstall + Fresh Install Using the Correct SIV Build

If SIV installs but fails to read sensors (or crashes later), the installed package is often wrong for your motherboard model/revision, or remnants of an older SIV build are interfering.

Step 1: Uninstall SIV and related GIGABYTE components

  1. Open Settings → Apps → Installed apps.
  2. Remove GIGABYTE SIV entries you see (names vary slightly by version).
  3. Also uninstall related GIGABYTE utilities tied to monitoring if they are known to overlap (for example, older SIV sensor/utility packages).

Then reboot.

Step 2: Remove leftover folders (only if needed)

Uninstall doesn’t always clear residual files in Program Files and ProgramData.

  • Check and remove old SIV folders under C:\Program Files and C:\Program Files (x86) if they still exist.
  • Check C:\ProgramData for GIGABYTE SIV-related folders (only delete those you’re sure belong to SIV).

If you’re unsure, skip manual deletion and move to Step 3.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Step 3: Install the correct SIV version for your exact motherboard

Use your motherboard vendor page (GIGABYTE support page) to download the SIV package matching your model and Windows 11 compatibility. SIV builds frequently differ across chipset generations and board revisions.

  1. Find your motherboard model on GIGABYTE’s support site.
  2. Open the Utility section and download the latest SIV (or System Information Viewer) package available.
  3. Run the installer.
  4. Reboot after installation.

Test immediately after reboot. If you have a two-stage installer, don’t skip the follow-up steps.

Step 4: Verify the app is actually using the right sensor backend

Some SIV builds can launch but still fail sensor polling if the supporting driver component isn’t registered correctly. After reboot, open SIV and confirm values refresh (not just static placeholders).

Advanced Troubleshooting When the Main Fixes Don’t Work

If all three fixes fail, you’re in the “rare cases” bucket. These steps target driver registration, corrupted app state, and sensor access permissions.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Check Windows service dependencies

SIV can depend on background components to query sensors. Open Services and check for any GIGABYTE-related monitoring services.

  1. Press Win + R → type services.msc → Enter.
  2. Look for services referencing GIGABYTE, sensor, or monitoring.
  3. Start them (or restart) and test SIV.

Be careful: don’t change unrelated Windows services.

Run Dependency Walker style checks (practical alternative)

If SIV crashes on launch, you can often confirm missing DLLs. A simpler approach than deep dependency analysis is using Event Viewer and searching the missing module name (for example, a missing MSVCP.dll or VCRUNTIME.dll).

Then install the matching runtime. Most of the time, Fix #1 covers this, but Event Viewer points you to what’s still missing.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Try a different SIV build (beta/stable)

Occasionally, a “latest” SIV package has regressions on specific Windows 11 builds. If you recently updated Windows and SIV broke afterward, try the previous SIV version listed on your board support page.

Keep the version consistent with your motherboard model—don’t mix packages across boards.

Confirm chipset + Intel/AMD platform drivers are current

Sensor polling can depend on platform stability. Update:

  • Chipset driver (Intel Chipset Device Software or AMD Chipset Driver)
  • Management Engine / AMD platform drivers if applicable to your platform
  • BIOS if you’ve been skipping updates for a long time (only update BIOS when you’re comfortable and you’re using the correct model files)

After driver updates, reboot and retest SIV.

Common Mistakes That Waste Hours

  • Installing the wrong SIV package (same brand, different motherboard model). SIV is not fully universal.
  • Only installing x64 runtimes and skipping x86. Many legacy components still ship as 32-bit.
  • Trying compatibility mode without admin permissions. Both often matter on Windows 11.
  • Relying on “it launches”. Sensors that stay at 0 or don’t refresh still indicate backend failure.
  • Installing apps while another monitor is polling. Test with HWInfo/Afterburner temporarily closed.

Alternatives (If You Need Monitoring Right Now)

If you just need temps and fan RPM while you fix SIV, these are proven fallbacks.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

HWiNFO (sensor monitoring)

HWiNFO is excellent for cross-platform sensor reads. It can often show CPU temps, voltages, and fan speeds even when vendor utilities break.

  1. Install HWiNFO.
  2. Choose Sensors only.
  3. Check that fan RPM and temperature sensors update in real time.

BIOS fan control + board utilities

For fan management, your BIOS profiles may be the most reliable option. If your goal is stable fan curves, BIOS can bypass SIV entirely.

  1. Enter BIOS/UEFI.
  2. Set fan curve for CPU_FAN and SYS_FAN headers.
  3. Save and reboot.

FAQs

Why does GIGABYTE SIV show blank readings after updating Windows 11?

The most common causes are missing Visual C++ runtimes or a sensor backend mismatch after an update. Fix #1 (VC runtimes) and Fix #3 (correct clean reinstall) are the fastest paths.

Is GIGABYTE SIV safe to install on Windows 11?

SIV itself is a vendor utility from GIGABYTE’s support sources. For safety, only download installers from your motherboard support page or trusted sources, and use the correct model.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

What SIV version should I use in 2024?

Use the newest SIV build listed for your exact motherboard model on GIGABYTE’s support page. If SIV broke right after a Windows 11 update, try the previous SIV package listed for the same board.

Will fixing SIV require BIOS updates?

Usually no. Start with runtimes, permissions, and reinstalling the correct SIV package. BIOS updates are a last step when driver/software compatibility remains broken.

Bottom Line

If GIGABYTE SIV isn’t working on Windows 11, don’t guess randomly. Start with Fix #1 (Visual C++ 2015–2022 x86 and x64), then apply Fix #2 (run as admin + compatibility and allow through firewall), and finish with Fix #3 (clean uninstall and install the exact SIV build for your motherboard model).

If you still can’t get sensor updates, use Event Viewer to identify missing modules, update chipset/platform drivers, and fall back to HWiNFO for monitoring while you refine the SIV install.
