For a fresh NanoClaw installation, clone the official repository and run its setup script directly in a terminal. The wizard prepares the dependencies, Docker agent container, credential gateway, and initial channel pairing. For problems, identify the failing stage and installed version first; NanoClaw’s setup and release details can change between versions.
Check the requirements before installing
NanoClaw’s official site lists macOS, Linux, and Windows through WSL2 as supported environments. It calls for Node.js 20 or later, pnpm 10 or later, Docker Desktop or Docker Engine, and a Claude or Codex provider credential. Docker is the supported container runtime; the project does not list alternative runtimes as supported. See the official NanoClaw site for current prerequisites.

- Use a supported host environment, including WSL2 for Windows.
- Confirm Docker is installed and usable by your account.
- If installing Node.js and pnpm yourself, meet the stated minimum versions.
- Have the credential for the provider you plan to use.
Install NanoClaw from a fresh checkout
Open a terminal in the host environment where Docker will run. The project’s quick start is:
Quick wins for a faster PC:
Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →git clone https://github.com/nanocoai/nanoclaw.git nanoclaw-v2
cd nanoclaw-v2
bash nanoclaw.sh
Run bash nanoclaw.sh directly in the terminal, not from inside a Claude session. The setup process needs interactive prompts and real shell input/output. It prepares Node.js, pnpm, Docker, and the credential gateway, builds the agent container, and guides you through pairing a channel. Follow the prompts and keep the installer output if anything fails; the official guidance does not prescribe one universal fix for every shell, network, Docker-daemon, or credential error.

Understand how NanoClaw is configured
NanoClaw’s documented approach is to customize the code rather than edit a general-purpose configuration file. For a behavior change, ask the coding agent to make the requested change or use the repository’s /customize skill. Channel adapters and alternative providers can be added with skills such as /add-<channel>; do not assume every adapter is already included in a checkout.
Describe the behavior you want and specify the relevant group, channel, or provider. Review the resulting code diff, then follow any dependency, registration, or rebuild steps it identifies. The project documentation does not establish one universal configuration key or file path for every customization.

Diagnose a failure by its stage
Start by recording the NanoClaw version or commit, host OS, whether you are using WSL2, the setup or runtime stage, the channel and provider involved, and the exact error text. These details matter because changes to gateways, model defaults, startup, and recovery can be release-specific. Check the official release notes for the installed version before applying upgrade or migration advice.
| Where the problem appears | What to check first |
|---|---|
| Installer or dependency setup | Read the terminal output and check the documented platform, Node.js and pnpm requirements, Docker availability, and provider credential. |
| Docker or container build | Check whether Docker is installed and usable, then inspect the build output for the specific failing step. |
| Provider authentication or gateway | Check the host-side credential and gateway setup for the provider in use. |
| Channel pairing or delivery | Identify the channel, whether pairing completed, and whether the symptom is a connection issue or a message that receives no response. |
| Agent cannot access a file | Check whether the required path is explicitly mounted and allowed for that agent. |
This is a practical way to narrow the fault, not a project-issued checklist. NanoClaw says agents run in isolated Docker containers and see only explicitly mounted files; credentials are routed through a gateway so agents do not hold raw API keys. Those boundaries make mount permissions a relevant place to investigate file-access failures, and host-side gateway setup relevant to authentication failures, but neither is guaranteed to be the cause.

- 【What you Get】You will get 1*Pi 5 8GB Single Board,1*RasTech Case,1*Active Cooler,1*Screwdriver,1*Installation instructions,12-month free warranty, lifetime service, 24-hour prompt and friendly response.
- 【More Connectors】There are two USB 3.0 ports(5Gbps simultaneously) and two USB 2.0 ports, which triple total bandwidth ,support any combination of up to two cameras or displays. Peak SD card performance is doubled through support for the SDR104 high-speed mode. It provides a smooth desktop experience for you. Offer Gigabit Ethernet and a PCIe interface, along with dual-band Wi-Fi and Bluetooth 5.0/BLE wireless capability. The RasTech Pi 5 Kit use the new 27W 5.1V 5A USB-C power connector.
- 【 Support Dual 4Kp60 Display 】Each of the two microHDMI sockets can control a 4K display at 60 Hertz, now support HDR, offering super HD video for media streaming projects. RPi 5 is the first RPi model that comes with a PCI Express port (PCIe 2.0 x1 with 500 MB/s) to attach SSDs (requires separate M.2 HAT).
- 【 Excellent Chips And Applications】Pi 5 is a full-size Pi computer using silicon built in-house at Pi. The RP1 “southbridge” provides the bulk of the I/O capabilities for Pi 5. Pi 5 is more friendly and convenient in the development of Internet of Things, Web development, machine identification, automatic control and other electronic equipment applications and network.
- 【 Faster CPU, Better GPU 】 Pi 5 features a Broadcom BCM2712 64-bit quad-core Arm Cortex-A76 processor running at 2.4GHz, it delivers a 2–3× increase in CPU performance relative to RaspberryPi 4. The 800MHz VideoCore VII GPU is compatible to OpenGL ES 3.1 and Vulkan 1.2, substantial uplift in graphics performance. Pi 5 Offers lightning-fast CPU speed, a PCI Express interface, a Real Time Clock (RTC) and a power button and runs significantly cooler than Pi 4.
Use the project’s debugging path
- For setup failures, let the setup handoff diagnose and resume the process if it is offered.
- If that does not resolve the setup problem, the repository FAQ suggests running
claudeand then/debug. - For runtime symptoms, ask Claude Code a focused question about scheduler activity, recent logs, or why a message received no response, as the README recommends.
- Before applying a proposed recovery, compare it with the release notes for your installed version. Do not copy an upgrade or migration step from a different version without confirming it applies.
- After changing something, repeat the operation that originally failed using the same channel, group, provider, and action.
The project describes anonymous setup diagnostics and an opt-out environment variable. It also says that building the agent image locally is the default; its account-backed prebuilt-image and perks path is distinct from that local setup. Check the project’s current documentation for the precise diagnostics and opt-out details rather than assuming the two paths send the same information.
What to know before upgrading
Release details are time-sensitive. The official GitHub Releases page listed v2.4.0, published September 23, 2026, as the latest release when checked on October 7, 2026. Its notes describe credential gateways installed through skills, model and speed controls, a Mattermost channel, an updated OpenCode provider, and setup, restart, and delivery fixes. They also flag considerations for hand-merged forks and changes to default models. Confirm the current release notes and their instructions before upgrading; these details may have changed.

Migrate from NanoClaw v1 without switching the service prematurely
The documented migration path uses a fresh v2 checkout followed by bash migrate-v2.sh. The script looks for a sibling v1 installation or accepts a path through NANOCLAW_V1_PATH=/path/to/nanoclaw. It migrates state and selected channel data, then hands judgment-dependent work to Claude Code.
The migration script does not automatically switch the system service. The v1 service remains in place until you choose or perform that switch. Test the v2 checkout before changing service routing, and consult the migration instructions that match your installed release.
