Newsquawk’s same-day headline attributed the wording “we continue to see the US as a reliable supplier of fuel” and “we do not want to unsettle markets further” to an unnamed government spokesperson. The available report does not identify that person or provide a transcript.
What the LNG figures show—and what they do not
The German Federal Government’s energy FAQ says that more than 90 percent of the natural gas arriving at German LNG terminals comes from the United States. That figure describes gas landing at those terminals; it is not the US share of all German gas consumption, all gas imports, or all fuel. The government FAQ was accessed October 3, 2026.

The German Federal Network Agency likewise describes Germany as currently receiving its LNG deliveries from the United States, and says Persian Gulf gas plays no significant role in German supply. That is a description of LNG sourcing, not a claim that Germany has no other gas or energy suppliers.
The government FAQ also points to pipeline gas and LNG as routes for making sufficient gas available. Together, those official descriptions help explain why LNG is relevant to the spokesperson’s broad remark about fuel. They do not establish that the reported statement was prompted by a particular dispute or threat to supplies.

Why reassurance and diversification can coexist
Calling a supplier reliable and supporting diversification are not contradictory. A government can express confidence in an existing source while also backing businesses that seek additional suppliers or routes. Diversification is an objective; the October 2 remarks do not establish how far it has progressed or how quickly alternative sources could replace US deliveries.
Nor does the statement amount to a formal reliability assessment. Determining how dependable future deliveries are would require evidence about delivery performance, contracts, export policy, infrastructure capacity, and alternative suppliers. The reports and official pages cited here do not resolve those questions, and they do not guarantee future US deliveries.
