Choose a platform that fits your setup
The practical choice depends on the hardware you already have and how you prefer to play. HoYoverse’s official game page describes cross-play across PC, iOS, Android, PlayStation, and Xbox. You do not need to choose the same platform as friends to play together, but cross-play does not automatically mean your saved progress is linked across devices.

- PC: A good fit if you already have a compatible computer and prefer keyboard and mouse. A controller is optional.
- PlayStation: A console option for players who want to play on a TV with a controller. The 2026 update notice gives a PlayStation update path, but says PS4 will no longer receive updates.
- Xbox Series X|S: A supported console option with updates managed through the console’s game library.
For a first installation, use the official game page or your platform’s official store. HoYoverse’s cited update instructions explain how to update an existing installation, not a complete current installation sequence for every store or region.

HoYoverse’s Version Luna VI notice, published April 8, 2026, gives these update steps for PC, PlayStation, and Xbox Series X|S:
- PC: Close the game, open the Genshin Impact Launcher, and click Update.
- PlayStation: Highlight Genshin Impact on the Home screen, press OPTIONS, then select Check for Update.
- Xbox Series X|S: Open My games & apps, choose Manage, then Updates, and confirm the game update.
If a PC download or update fails, HoYoverse’s older PC FAQ advises checking available disk space and using a stable internet connection. The FAQ is dated 2020, so treat its troubleshooting advice as basic checks rather than a complete guide to current launcher problems.
Cross-play and cross-save are different
Cross-play lets different platforms play together
Cross-play is the ability to play with people using other supported platforms. The official game page lists PC, iOS, Android, PlayStation, and Xbox as part of its cross-play ecosystem. Platform support and update availability can change, so the PS4 update cutoff described below matters even though PlayStation appears in the cross-play listing.

Cross-save requires account linking
Cross-save is about carrying your game progress between platforms. HoYoverse’s PSN and HoYoverse account-linking notice describes eligibility conditions, same-server limits, and the need to link the appropriate accounts. The account-linking steps can depend on your existing account and what you have already done on PlayStation.
If you have progress on PC or mobile and want to use it on PlayStation, read the current official linking instructions before launching the game on PlayStation for the first time. The 2021 notice warns that the initial linking prompt can affect whether accounts connect as intended; it also describes unlinking as unsupported in that flow. Because that notice is old, follow the current official account instructions for the precise steps rather than relying on an old prompt sequence.

What PS4 owners need to know
HoYoverse’s Version Luna VI update notice says the PS4 version will no longer receive updates. It recommends moving to PS5 or another supported platform and states that game progress will not be affected by the transition. Do not treat PS4 as a platform that will continue receiving new game updates.
PC requirements and controller support
The available HoYoverse PC FAQ and launch specification page date to September 2020. Their listed operating systems and hardware figures are historical documentation, not verified 2026 minimum or recommended requirements. Check the current official download information before installing or buying a computer for the game; a current authoritative PC requirement list is not established here.
HoYoverse’s 2020 PC FAQ says Xbox One/Elite and PS4 controllers are supported. Since the page is dated, this should not be read as a guarantee for every current controller model. You can play on PC without a controller, and the cited FAQ does not establish a need to buy a particular accessory.
