Be My Eyes gives you a choice: ask its AI to describe a submitted picture, or connect by live video and audio with a sighted volunteer—and, where available, a company representative. Choose based on whether you need live AI guidance, a photo description, or a person’s help.
How Gemini Live Guided Vision works
Google launched Guided Vision in Gemini Live for compatible Android devices on October 1, 2026. Enable Guided Vision in Gemini settings, start Gemini Live, and share the phone camera. Gemini can describe the view, answer follow-up questions, and suggest camera movements—such as panning, tilting, or stepping back—if it needs a clearer view. Google’s examples include reading small labels or appliance dials, finding nearby household objects, describing colors or patterns, and giving an overview of a room or table. Google’s launch announcement describes the feature and its intended uses.

Access and compatibility
Google lists Android 9 and later in regions and languages where Gemini Live is supported. Guided Vision is rolling out gradually, so it may not appear in Gemini settings for every eligible user yet. Google documents Android accessibility shortcuts—a floating button, a two-finger gesture, or both volume keys—and an entry in the TalkBack menu. See Google’s Guided Vision help page for current access details.
Google says it developed Guided Vision with the accessibility community, with Aira contributing visual-interpretation data and subject-matter input. Google reported tens of thousands of hours of data and more than 1,000 Aira Trusted Testers in its 2026 launch announcement. Those are development figures reported by Google, not independent accuracy or outcome measurements.

How Be My Eyes works
Be My AI for a picture
Be My AI describes a camera picture you submit, and you can ask follow-up questions about that image. This is a picture-based exchange, rather than the continuous live-camera conversation described for Guided Vision.
Live help from a person
Be My Eyes can connect a blind or low-vision user over one-way video and two-way audio with a sighted volunteer. Its Service Directory may also connect users to company representatives for product-specific help, depending on regional availability and the company’s support hours. The directory includes categories such as assistive technology, banking, shopping, personal health, technical help, and travel or transport; which providers are listed varies by region and language. Be My Eyes says its Android app is free to download. Its help page, updated July 1, 2026, says its global volunteer community answers calls in more than 185 languages. Calls are matched by language and daytime time zone. The same page reports an average volunteer connection wait of less than 10 seconds; this is the organization’s reported average, not a guaranteed wait for an individual call. Company-representative availability can differ.

For small print or a nearby object
If you want to point your phone at a food label, appliance dial, or nearby household item and ask questions while adjusting the view, Guided Vision’s documented live-camera interaction is the closer fit. Be My AI is the option when you can submit a picture and ask about it; a volunteer is the option when you want a person to interpret a live view.

For screens, menus, appliances, or company-specific help
Be My Eyes documents picture descriptions and volunteer assistance for tasks involving items such as clothing, appliances, kitchen tasks, screens, menus, and kiosks. If the issue calls for product-specific help, look for the company in the Service Directory; its presence and availability are not universal.
Safety: neither tool is for navigation
Google warns that Guided Vision can make mistakes and says it is not a medical device, mobility aid, or replacement for a white cane. It is not intended for navigation, safe-travel guidance, or obstacle detection. Do not rely on it to judge whether a route is clear or safe. The official Guided Vision help page repeats this limitation. The Be My Eyes materials cited here do not establish a comparative safety or reliability advantage, so do not treat either service as a substitute for established safe-travel practices.

Other Android accessibility tools
Google’s Android low-vision tools overview also lists Lookout for camera-based information about nearby objects, TalkBack as a screen reader, and Reading mode with read-aloud controls for long app and web content. Their roles differ from the live AI conversation, photo description, or human video help compared here. Google notes that feature and device availability can vary by country and manufacturer.
