If Guided Vision is missing or Gemini Live cannot use your camera or microphone, check availability first, then the Guided Vision setting, Live session state, Android privacy controls, and accessibility shortcut. Guided Vision is an Android feature that works during Gemini Live camera sharing; it is not the same as ordinary screen sharing.
First check whether Guided Vision is available on your device
Google describes Guided Vision as an accessibility feature in Gemini Live on Android. It is rolling out gradually, so a missing setting may mean the feature has not reached your account rather than that your camera is broken. Google does not specify every account or regional eligibility rule, so there is no reliable device-side fix for an account that has not received access. Google’s Guided Vision help page describes the gradual rollout.

Gemini Live requires an Android phone or tablet, the Gemini mobile app or Gemini as the mobile assistant, a signed-in Gemini Apps account, and the latest Google app. Google says Live is not available in the Gemini web app or Google Messages. Update the Google app, confirm you are using a supported Android route, and sign in before troubleshooting a missing toggle. Google’s Gemini Live help page lists its platform requirements.

- Open the Gemini app. Tap your profile picture or initial, then tap Settings.
- Turn on Guided Vision. Enable Use Guided Vision in Live. If that option is absent after updating the app, availability may still be rolling out to your account.
- Start Gemini Live. Begin a Live session, then use its camera control to share the device camera. Guided Vision works in Live after camera sharing begins.
- End the session when finished. Tap End Live session.
These steps follow Google’s Guided Vision instructions. If the setting is on but the camera will not start, check Android’s camera controls and Gemini’s app permission next.

If Gemini Live camera sharing will not start or stops
Check Android’s camera access controls
- Check the system camera access tile. In Quick Settings, make sure camera access is enabled. If you do not see a camera access tile, your device may require you to add it; available tiles and swipe gestures vary by device.
- Check Gemini’s camera permission. In Android Settings, find Gemini’s app permissions and allow camera access. The exact menu labels vary by Android release and manufacturer.
- Use the privacy indicator to identify sensor use. On Android 12 and later, a green indicator appears when the camera or microphone is in use. Swipe down and tap it to see which app is using the sensor and manage access.
Google documents the indicator and system-level sensor controls in Android’s camera and microphone access help. If system access is disabled or Gemini’s app permission is denied, Live cannot use the camera even when Guided Vision is enabled.
Check whether Live paused camera sharing
Gemini Live turns off camera sharing when you put Live on hold, leave the Gemini app, or lock the screen. After resuming from hold, the camera comes back automatically. After returning to Gemini from another app or unlocking the screen, you must tap the camera control to start sharing again. That interruption can look like a permission failure, even when permissions are unchanged. See Google’s Gemini Live guidance.

If Gemini Live cannot hear you
- Check that Live is not muted or on hold.
- In Android Quick Settings, confirm microphone access is enabled.
- Check Android Settings and allow microphone permission for Gemini.
- If needed, use the Android privacy indicator to see which app is using the microphone and open access management.
Gemini’s mute control silences the device microphone while video or screen sharing can continue. Ending Live closes the session. Android’s sensor indicator and access controls are described in Google’s Android privacy help; session controls are covered in Gemini Live help.

For the TalkBack route, update and enable TalkBack, make a three-finger tap to open the TalkBack menu, and select Guided Vision. Gesture conflicts and menu wording can differ across devices. If the shortcut or TalkBack menu route is unavailable, first try the regular Gemini settings and Live camera controls above. Google documents these launch methods on its Guided Vision help page.
Do not confuse Guided Vision with TalkBack 16’s separate Describe image, Describe screen, and Ask Gemini actions. Google’s help page describes those features separately and says they are English-only. TalkBack’s image and screen description help covers those actions.

Camera sharing, screen sharing, and Guided Vision are different
| Feature | What it shares or does | What to check if it does not work |
|---|---|---|
| Guided Vision | An accessibility feature in Gemini Live that works after camera sharing begins. | Confirm Android availability, enable Use Guided Vision in Live, and start Live camera sharing. |
| Live camera sharing | Shares the device camera’s view of the surroundings with Gemini. | Check Android camera access and Gemini permission; restart sharing after leaving Gemini or unlocking the screen. |
| Live screen sharing | Shares the device’s full screen with Gemini Live. | Turn on Gemini Live notifications and start sharing from Live or a Share screen with Live prompt, where available. |
Screen sharing is not Guided Vision. Google says screen sharing requires Gemini Live notifications to be on. It stops if you put Live on hold or lock the screen, and it does not automatically resume; start screen sharing again. Stop it from Gemini or the Android Screen Sharing notification. See Google’s Gemini Live instructions.
Use Guided Vision with safety in mind
Google warns: “Guided vision can make mistakes. It’s not intended as a medical device, mobility aid, or substitute for safe-travel guides. Don’t use it for navigation or obstacle detection. You’re solely responsible for your health and safety.” Do not rely on its camera guidance to identify hazards or navigate. Google’s Android Accessibility Help provides this warning.
