Some Android Auto users have found that Gemini processes a question or search for several seconds, then stops without answering. Android Authority reported on October 2, 2026, that Google said it had rolled out a fix that week. If you still see the problem, check for an available update—but the report does not confirm that every device has recovered.
What is happening with Gemini in Android Auto?
Android Authority reported the failure on Google, Samsung, and Motorola phones: a user asks Gemini a question or search, it appears to work for several seconds, and then it gives up without a response. The report did not identify specific phone models, software versions, affected regions, or how many people experienced it.

In an update published the same day, Android Authority said a Google spokesperson confirmed that a fix had rolled out during that week and advised users who still had trouble to check whether an update was available. The report does not name the app or version to update, explain the technical cause, or establish whether the fix reached every affected device. Read Android Authority’s report and update.
Before Google’s reported rollout, users had said that resetting Android Auto settings or updating their phones had not solved the issue. Those reports are not a complete measure of the problem, and they do not establish that either step is a fix.

What to check if Gemini still stops without answering
1. Check for an available update
Follow Android Authority’s advice and check whether an update is available. Because the report does not specify which update or version contains the fix, it does not support a more specific instruction or a guarantee of recovery.
2. Confirm the phone and car are set up for Android Auto
Google’s phone-based Android Auto requirements include Android 11 or newer, at least 2 GB of RAM, Gemini set as the phone’s digital assistant, and a vehicle that supports Android Auto. Availability can vary by language and region. These are baseline compatibility checks, not a diagnosis of the reported failure. See Google’s Gemini in-car requirements and help and Google’s Android Auto setup guidance.

3. Check how you start Gemini
To use voice activation, make sure “Hey Google” and Voice Match are enabled. You can also tap the microphone on the car screen, or press and hold the steering-wheel voice button if your vehicle supports it. Google says Gemini is replacing Assistant on most mobile devices using Android Auto; its help pages explain the available activation methods: Gemini in Android Auto and Gemini in your car.
4. Report the failure if it continues
If Gemini starts normally but times out on general questions or searches, describe that exact behavior when seeking help rather than assuming a connection or hardware fault. Google’s help page points users to its help community. The incident report provides no evidence that changing cables, clearing settings, buying an adapter, or replacing a phone resolves this failure.

Keep Gemini’s in-car limits in mind
Google says Gemini in Android Auto is new and evolving and can present inaccurate information as fact. Do not rely on it for critical information or safety-related matters while driving. Keep attention on the road and use a safe, appropriate way to get essential information.
Google announced the Android Auto Gemini rollout on November 20, 2025, describing conversational tasks such as navigation, local-business questions, messages, email, music, and Gemini Live. The announcement said rollout was beginning globally in 45 languages; that rollout statement does not establish availability for every user today. Google also said Android Auto was available in more than 250 million cars at the time of that 2025 announcement. That figure describes platform reach, not Gemini usage or the number affected by this issue. Google’s Android Auto Gemini announcement.
