Gemini can help you find Android apps through Google Play, but it does not silently install them: you open the app’s Google Play details page and tap Install or the displayed purchase price. The Google Play connected app works in the Gemini mobile app on Android and has account and activity requirements.
What you need before connecting Google Play
Google lists these requirements for using the Google Play connected app with Gemini:
As an Amazon Associate I earn from qualifying purchases.
- You are at least 18 years old.
- Your Android phone or tablet has the Google Play Store installed.
- You use the Gemini mobile app and sign in with a personal Google Account.
- The Google Account in Gemini is the same one used by Google Play.
- Keep Activity is turned on. Gemini cannot connect to Google Play while it is off.
The Play connected app is currently available only in the Gemini mobile app on Android. Access to Gemini itself can also depend on device, account, language, and location eligibility; work or school accounts may have different feature access. If Gemini is not installed or enabled, Google’s Android setup guidance explains how to download it or switch to it on eligible devices: Set up the Gemini mobile app.
Find and install an app with Gemini
- Open the Gemini mobile app on your Android phone or tablet.
- Check that Gemini and Google Play are using the same personal Google Account.
- Ask Gemini to find a specific app or suggest apps for a category or task. For example, say “Find [app name] on Google Play” or ask for social media apps or a map app for international travel.
- If prompted, follow the on-screen instructions to connect Google Play.
- Select a result to open its Google Play details page. Choose View more in Google Play if you want to browse more suggestions.
- On the app’s details page, tap Install. If it is a paid app, tap the displayed purchase price and follow Google Play’s purchase flow.
Google’s documented workflow ends with your action on the Play details page; Gemini helps surface the app, while Google Play handles installation or purchase. See Google’s instructions: Find and install apps from Google Play with the Gemini mobile app on Android.

Ask for an app by name or describe what you need
If you already know which app you want, ask Gemini to find that app on Google Play. If you are exploring, describe the category or task instead—for example, request social media apps or a map app for travel. You can review the suggestions, open a result’s Play details page, or select View more in Google Play. Both approaches use the same final installation step in Google Play.
In-app purchases and availability
The connected app can surface some in-app digital items, subscriptions, and digital gift cards for purchase through Google Play. Gemini can recommend in-app items only for apps already installed on your device, and not every app supports purchases through this connected app. Available apps and items can vary by country, device, and developer. Google’s connected-app help page describes the supported experience and limits: Google Play connected app in Gemini.

If Gemini cannot find or connect to Google Play
- Make sure you are using the Gemini mobile app on an Android phone or tablet, not another Gemini interface.
- Confirm the Play Store is installed and that Gemini and Play use the same personal Google Account.
- Check that you meet the age requirement and have Keep Activity turned on.
- If Gemini displays a connection prompt, follow it. You can also review the Google Play connection under Gemini’s Connected Apps settings; Google says the app can be connected or disconnected there.
If the option is still unavailable, access may be affected by your account, device, language, location, or the app developer’s availability. Google’s general setup page also notes that work and school accounts can have different access: Gemini mobile app setup and availability.

Installing apps is different from Gemini device assistance
Gemini’s Android device-assistance features can perform some tasks, such as opening apps or managing settings. Those controls are separate from finding and installing new apps through Google Play. Some assistance actions need additional Google app permissions, and some require the Google app to be set as the default digital assistant. Details are in Google’s Use Gemini to take action on your Android device guidance.
