Choose by workload, budget, and access—not by a blanket claim that one model is better. Google positions Gemini 4 Argon for demanding coding, enterprise knowledge work, and cyber defense, while its Gemini model listing calls Gemini 3.8 Flash “Best for tackling complex agentic tasks at scale.” Independent benchmark and price listings favor different practical trade-offs, so test the model you can actually access on your own tasks.

Which model fits which task?

Task or priority Start with Why
Complex or high-stakes coding Gemini 4 Argon, if available Google positions Argon for real-world coding; Artificial Analysis lists higher scores than Flash on its Terminal-Bench 4.0 comparison.
Enterprise knowledge work Gemini 4 Argon, if available Google identifies enterprise knowledge work as a target area. Validate performance on your documents, workflows, and quality requirements.
Cyber-defense work Gemini 4 Argon, if available Google positions Argon for cyber defense. Treat that as intended use, not a guarantee of suitability for a particular security workflow.
Agentic tasks at scale Gemini 3.8 Flash Google’s model listing describes Flash as “Best for tackling complex agentic tasks at scale.”
Lower listed token rates Gemini 3.8 Flash Artificial Analysis lists lower input and output prices for Flash in the comparison accessed October 4, 2026; these are third-party figures, not confirmed Google rates.
Speech or video input Gemini 3.8 Flash, subject to current documentation and access Artificial Analysis lists speech and video input for Flash, but not for Argon. Confirm supported modalities in current developer documentation before building around them.

Google’s model descriptions are positioning statements, not proof of universal superiority. A model’s suitability depends on the task, evaluation criteria, implementation, and whether it is available in your environment.

What do the benchmark comparisons show?

Artificial Analysis reports higher results for Argon on three listed evaluations. These are third-party scores, not Google-reported results and not predictions of how either model will perform on every real-world job.

Evaluation Gemini 4 Argon Gemini 3.8 Flash Qualification
Intelligence Index 53 41 Artificial Analysis, High setting; accessed October 4, 2026.
Terminal-Bench 4.0 57% 20% Artificial Analysis; accessed October 4, 2026.
Humanity’s Last Exam 57% 48% Artificial Analysis; accessed October 4, 2026.

The comparison page does not establish original publication dates for each figure. Treat the scores as a snapshot, and use your own representative prompts and pass criteria for a deployment decision.

How do input support and context compare?

Artificial Analysis lists a 1-million-token context window for both models. It lists text and image input for Argon, and text, image, speech, and video input for Flash. These are third-party listing details; consult current Google developer documentation for supported inputs and implementation requirements before relying on them.

How do the listed token prices compare?

In figures accessed October 4, 2026, Artificial Analysis lists Flash at lower per-token prices than Argon. The comparison page does not establish that these are official Google rates, so check Google’s current pricing for the model and service you intend to use.

Listed measure Gemini 4 Argon Gemini 3.8 Flash Basis
Input per 1 million tokens $2.00 $0.75 Artificial Analysis listing, accessed October 4, 2026; third-party figures.
Output per 1 million tokens $10.00 $3.75 Artificial Analysis listing, accessed October 4, 2026; third-party figures.
Blended per 1 million tokens $1.47 $0.5775 Artificial Analysis estimate, accessed October 4, 2026, using a 7:2:1 cache-hit/input/output ratio; not a universal workload cost.

Your actual spend can differ with the service, billing rules, cache behavior, and the amount of input and output generated. Compare costs using the workload you expect to run, rather than assuming the blended estimate will match it.

Can you access Argon or Flash?

Do not assume either model is enabled for every Google product, account, plan, or region. Google’s model index described Argon as “rolling out soon,” while its current model page lists Gemini surfaces including Google AI Studio, the Gemini app, Google Antigravity, and Gemini Enterprise Agent Platform. A listed surface does not by itself confirm that a specific model is available to your account.

Check the model picker or current documentation in the service you plan to use. For development, verify availability and technical details in Google’s developer resources before designing an integration. For an enterprise deployment, confirm access with the relevant administrator or platform documentation.

How should you choose for your own workload?

  1. Confirm access. Check whether the specific model is selectable in your account and intended Google service.
  2. Define the job and quality bar. Use representative coding tasks, enterprise questions, security scenarios, or agent workflows, and decide what counts as a correct, safe, and usable result.
  3. Run the same evaluation on both models. Keep prompts, input material, tools, and scoring rules consistent wherever the models can support them.
  4. Measure cost and operational fit. Track token use and the work needed to review or correct outputs; use current official pricing rather than treating third-party snapshots as billing terms.
  5. Select by workload. Favor Argon for the target areas Google names when your tests justify its use and cost. Favor Flash when its agentic-task positioning, listed lower rates, or input modalities suit the task and your own results meet the bar.

If only one model is available, evaluate that model against your requirements rather than inferring performance from the other model’s benchmark scores.
