What is the GEEKOM A8 Max?
The A8 Max is a compact Windows 11 Pro mini PC built around AMD’s Ryzen 9 8945HS processor. GEEKOM lists a chassis measuring 135 × 132 × 45.9mm and a weight of 704.8g. It is designed to deliver strong everyday and creative-work performance while taking up less desk space than a conventional desktop.

How well does it perform?
Office work and creative applications
Available independent coverage points to strong performance in productivity and creator workflows. TechRadar’s September 18, 2026 report says its review awarded the Ryzen 9 A8 Max 4.5 stars and found it handled Microsoft Office and Adobe Suite applications “without too much issue.” Windows Central likewise describes strong day-to-day productivity and demanding image and video editing performance. These are qualitative assessments, not a promise that every project or application will run equally well.

The 8-core, 16-thread CPU makes the A8 Max a plausible choice for multitasking, photo editing and other CPU-intensive desktop work in a small system. The evidence available here does not establish specific benchmark scores, export times or performance against a particular desktop processor, so those figures should not be inferred.
Gaming and graphics work
The Radeon 780M can support light gaming, but it does not make the A8 Max a gaming PC with a dedicated graphics card. Windows Central characterizes its graphics capability as suitable for light gaming. Demanding modern games and GPU-heavy workloads are better served by a system with discrete graphics, or potentially an external GPU connected through USB4.
USB4 provides an expansion route for an external GPU enclosure, but that adds cost and hardware beyond the mini PC. The supplied coverage identifies USB4 as useful for eGPU expansion; it does not establish game-specific performance with an eGPU.

Displays, ports and networking
Connectivity is a strength for a machine this small. GEEKOM lists USB4, two HDMI outputs, an SD-card slot, Wi‑Fi 6E and two 2.5GbE network connections. Windows Central says the system can drive up to four external displays. The number and resolution of displays you can run at once depend on the connection and display setup; check the exact configuration and supported output details if your workflow depends on a particular multi-monitor arrangement.
Dual 2.5GbE can be useful for fast wired networking or specialized network setups, while Wi‑Fi 6E offers a wireless option on compatible networks. USB4 expands the range of high-speed peripherals and docks you can attach. These features make the A8 Max more adaptable than a basic office mini PC, but the source material does not specify every port’s placement or transfer-rate behavior.
Noise and sustained workloads
Windows Central reports that the fan is audible under load, while noting that it did not observe throttling during its testing. That is useful context for sustained editing or other demanding work: expect to hear cooling activity when the processor is busy, but the cited coverage does not report performance throttling in its test conditions. No numerical noise, temperature or sustained-performance measurements are established here, so the experience in a particular room or workload cannot be quantified from these reports.

Can you upgrade the memory and storage?
Memory
The A8 Max uses dual-channel DDR5 SODIMM memory, which is a laptop-style memory format rather than desktop DIMMs. GEEKOM’s product listing advertises configurations or support up to 96GB, while its help-center sheet states a 64GB maximum. Because those official specifications conflict, confirm the memory limit for the exact revision and configuration you plan to buy before ordering an upgrade.

Storage
The system has one PCIe 4.0 x4 M.2 storage slot. GEEKOM lists storage configurations up to 4TB, but the solitary slot means that increasing capacity may require replacing the installed SSD rather than adding a second internal M.2 drive. Windows Central also identifies this single slot as the machine’s main limitation.

Price depends on the market, promotion, and included memory and storage. GEEKOM’s product page shows a broad $449–$1,189 range across configurations and promotions. Separately, TechRadar reported a $949 Amazon price on September 18, 2026, for a Ryzen 9 8945HS configuration with 32GB DDR5 and a 1TB SSD, reduced from $1,099. These are not interchangeable prices: compare the precise processor, RAM, SSD, seller and current offer rather than relying on a headline starting price.

- You need a multi-display setup; Windows Central reports support for up to four external displays.
- You are comfortable with integrated graphics or plan to explore USB4-based external GPU expansion.
Look elsewhere if
- You need strong gaming performance from a discrete GPU without adding external hardware.
- You need more than one internal M.2 slot for multiple drives.
- You require a quiet system during sustained heavy workloads.
- You are comparing value: a less expensive mini PC may be sufficient if you do not need this CPU performance or its connectivity.
Verdict
The GEEKOM A8 Max is a well-equipped mini PC for buyers who want high-end CPU capability and creator-friendly connectivity in a compact Windows system. Its Ryzen 9 8945HS and Radeon 780M are suited to demanding productivity and lighter graphics work, not a substitute for a discrete gaming GPU. The audible fan under load and single M.2 slot are meaningful compromises. At a price that makes sense for the exact RAM and SSD bundle, it is a capable small workstation; at a substantial premium over cheaper mini PCs, its value depends on whether you will use its processor and ports.
