What is Gears of War: E-Day about?
E-Day is a prequel set fourteen years before the original Gears of War. Young Marcus Fenix and Dominic Santiago are soldiers when the Locust Horde first rises from beneath the surface of Sera. The campaign follows Bravo Squad in the fictional city of Kalona during the first three days of the invasion, and traces both the opening of the Locust War and the beginning of Marcus and Dom’s bond. The Coalition’s June 2026 feature describes the story and setting.

How does the combat and multiplayer work?
The Coalition describes E-Day as a return to cover-based combat with added movement and vertical routes. Announced features include smoother cover transitions, sliding, jumping, rooftop and balcony traversal, destructible cover, and encounters that allow squads to flank through connected city spaces. The studio says it rebuilt the game in Unreal Engine 5; these are developer descriptions, not independent performance findings.
The campaign supports solo play, two-player split-screen on console, or online co-op for up to four players. Multiplayer includes Horde Siege PvE and Versus PvP. The Coalition describes Horde Siege as a 12-player mode in which three squads defend parts of Kalona, while Versus is classic-style 4v4. These are announced design details, not a report from hands-on testing. Read the Xbox Wire feature on the game’s design and modes.
