How do I use cover in Gears of War: E-Day?
Think of cover as part of both your defense and your route through an arena. Before leaving a protected position, identify the next one and how you can reach it. The Coalition describes reading the battlefield and its cover layout as central across Campaign, Horde, and Versus; planning a route from that principle is sound general advice, not a guarantee for every encounter. E-Day includes more cover types, heights, and actions than the older formula. Low cover can help when taller protection is unavailable, but it leaves you slower and somewhat more exposed. If gunfire destroys the upper half of your cover, your character can drop prone. Treat a low position as a temporary option, not the equivalent of sturdy protection.

What is the best way to move between cover?
Move with a destination and purpose. E-Day modernizes Gears movement with more freedom and verticality, including jumping, vaulting, sliding, and flanking. Use those actions to cross to protection or find a different angle around it; avoid sliding or sprinting into an exposed lane without a reason. How does active reload work?
Active reload changes the outcome of a reload: timing can affect whether it jams or earns extra damage. Watch the indicator and learn its timing in a lower-pressure moment rather than trying to force it during every firefight. By default, the indicator sits just below the reticle; if you prefer the older upper-right placement, change its position in settings. How should I adapt to Campaign, Horde Siege, and Versus?

Horde Siege modifiers can change the conditions of a run: some require perfect active reloads, restrict health regeneration to cover, or make enemies explode when they die. There is no supported universal “best weapon” recommendation here. Xbox says familiar weapons return in reimagined form and that the game includes new close-quarters weapons, but the official material does not provide a weapon-by-weapon damage, range, or encounter comparison. As a general starting point, carry a weapon suited to the engagement distance you expect and make use of available cover. That is a practical principle, not an E-Day weapon tier list.

Gears of War: E-Day launched worldwide on October 6, 2026, for Xbox Series X|S and PC, including Steam.
