That makes it a different kind of voice-typing workflow from Gboard—but Google’s advanced voice typing already offers punctuation, voice commands and, on supported Pixel devices, detailed editing. That can suit someone dictating notes or messages who wants a more readable draft. If preserving exactly what was spoken matters—for example, when recording a quotation—editing may be undesirable, so review the text before sending or saving it.

What Gboard already does
Google documents several capabilities beyond basic transcription. Gboard advanced voice typing can add punctuation automatically, accept voice commands such as deleting or clearing text, and let you continue typing while the microphone remains on. Those features mean it is inaccurate to characterize Gboard as only producing raw speech transcripts.
Availability and detailed edits
Google says advanced voice typing requires a Pixel 6 or later, including Pixel Fold and Pixel Tablet. Google’s documentation also limits detailed voice edits—such as inserting, deleting or replacing text—to Pixel 8 and later, in English (US). How the Android workflow differs
Google describes advanced voice typing as a Gboard feature. Wispr Flow’s Play listing says its app uses Android Accessibility Service to detect editable text fields and insert dictated text into other apps. That is a publisher-described implementation detail; it does not establish that insertion works in every app or field. Before relying on it for an important message or document, check the result in the app where you plan to use it.
The available sources do not establish Flow’s precise activation steps, offline behavior, supported languages, or how reliably it works across apps and devices. They also do not provide a complete feature-by-feature comparison or establish Flow’s price or usage limits. Don’t assume those details from the app’s general description; consult the current listing and in-app information before switching.

Privacy is a meaningful point of difference
Google says Gboard dictated text stays on-device and is not sent to Google servers unless the user invokes “Fix it” or detailed edits. That statement concerns the documented Gboard feature; it should not be generalized to every Google service or setting.
Wispr Flow’s Play listing declares that the app may collect personal information, audio and other data, and may share personal and financial information and other data with third parties. The listing also says data is encrypted in transit and that deletion can be requested. These are disclosures supplied by the app publisher, not an independent audit or a guarantee of a particular privacy outcome. If you dictate sensitive material, read the current privacy policy and Play data-safety details first.
Which one should you choose?
- Consider Wispr Flow if you specifically want speech turned into a more edited draft and are comfortable checking its current permissions and data disclosures.
- Consider Gboard advanced voice typing if you have a supported Pixel, want its documented punctuation and voice commands, or prefer the on-device handling Google describes for dictated text.
- Compare them on your actual task if your needs depend on language support, insertion into a particular app, offline use, cost or usage limits; the cited documentation does not establish a complete answer for those points.
