If you want another run-based game after Vampire Crawlers, choose Slay the Spire for classic solo deckbuilding, Monster Train for tactical positioning and clan synergies, or Balatro for poker-hand combos and build experimentation. They share roguelike deckbuilding and changing runs, but none is a direct copy of Vampire Crawlers.

What makes Vampire Crawlers different?

Vampire Crawlers is a roguelite deckbuilder spin-off of Vampire Survivors, developed by poncle and Nosebleed Interactive and published by poncle. It launched April 21, 2026, on Steam, Nintendo Switch, Xbox, and PlayStation, according to the official launch announcement. The announcement described mobile as planned for later in 2026; that plan does not establish current mobile availability.

Its defining combat idea is “TurboTurn”: you queue cards and let them resolve, with cards played in ascending mana order so each step can multiply the next card’s effect. Wild cards can extend the chain. Dungeon floors, treasure, and points of interest frame runs, while progression adds cards, power-ups, weapon evolutions, character cards, and summoned survivors. The result combines deliberate card choices with a player-controlled sense of pace, rather than simply reproducing Vampire Survivors’ action.

That distinction matters when choosing what to play next. Some games below match the deckbuilding loop; others are better fits if the appeal is building powerful combinations. Xbox Wire’s launch feature likewise describes the shift from bullet-heaven action to first-person, turn-based dungeon exploration and card decisions.

Which game should you try next?

Game Best fit if you want Its defining structure
Slay the Spire A recognizable solo roguelike deckbuilder Character-specific cards, encounters, items, and procedurally generated levels
Monster Train Positioning and faction combinations Three vertical battlegrounds, clan synergies, and card and unit upgrades
Balatro Escalating combos and build experimentation Poker hands, Jokers, and scoring modifiers

Slay the Spire: for the classic solo deckbuilding loop

Slay the Spire is the clearest pick if you want the familiar structure of choosing cards and items over a sequence of varied runs. Its developer, Mega Crit, describes it as a fusion of card games and roguelikes. The official press kit lists four characters with unique card sets, 300+ implemented cards, 50+ combat encounters, 100+ items, procedurally generated levels, and unlockables. These are developer-published feature counts.

The fit is the run-based card-building foundation, not presentation or combat pacing. The official description centers on cards, creatures, items, and generated levels; it does not describe a first-person dungeon crawler or Vampire Crawlers’ chained TurboTurn system.

Monster Train: for positioning and clan synergies

Choose Monster Train if you want card decisions to connect closely to where units fight. Its Steam page describes three vertical battlegrounds to defend aboard a train heading to hell. Runs involve choosing routes and benefits, selecting primary and supporting clans, upgrading a champion, recruiting units, and improving or duplicating cards. The page also lists competitive multiplayer modes.

Its distinctive tactical question is how to defend stacked battlefields, with faction combinations and unit placement as central considerations. That differs from Vampire Crawlers’ first-person dungeon exploration and rapidly chained card turns. The Steam page lists May 21, 2020, as its release date.

Balatro: for poker-based combo building

If the satisfaction of assembling a combination is more important to you than fantasy combat, try Balatro. The official Steam page calls it a poker-inspired roguelike deckbuilder: players combine poker hands with Joker cards and other tools to build synergies, beat escalating blinds, and progress through a run. It also lists challenge and seeded runs.

Balatro shares the appeal of experimenting with builds and making combinations grow in power, but its foundation is poker scoring—not dungeon encounters, weapons, or enemy combat. Think of it as a match for combo construction, not a close mechanical equivalent.

How to choose

  • Pick Slay the Spire if your priority is a straightforward, solo, run-based deckbuilder.
  • Pick Monster Train if you want positioning, multi-level battles, and clan combinations to shape your decisions.
  • Pick Balatro if you want to build scoring synergies around poker hands and Jokers.

All three offer deckbuilding and run-to-run variation, but each puts those systems in a different frame. Vampire Crawlers combines dungeon exploration with chained, escalating card effects; these alternatives are better understood as different answers to the parts of that loop you enjoy most.
