Samsung announced the original Galaxy Z TriFold on December 1, 2025: an inward-folding device that opens twice to reveal a display Samsung markets as 10 inches. Its ambitious design suggests a way to combine phone portability with a larger workspace, but the available specifications and durability rationale are Samsung’s own—not proof that the company has perfected foldables.
Has Samsung announced a Galaxy Z TriFold 2?
No. Samsung’s documented announcement covers the first Galaxy Z TriFold, not a second generation. Its U.S. product page identifies that original model as a limited run and currently says it is completely sold out. That statement applies to Samsung’s U.S. page; it does not establish whether third-party sellers have stock or whether the device is available elsewhere.

For shoppers, that distinction matters: specifications reported for the original TriFold should not be treated as specifications for a TriFold 2. Samsung’s published materials cited here do not confirm a successor, its launch date, or its features.
What the original Galaxy Z TriFold does
The first TriFold folds inward in two places. Opened, it presents a large main screen; folded, it uses a separate cover screen. Samsung’s launch announcement describes the main display as 10 inches and the cover display as 6.5 inches. These are manufacturer-published specifications, not independent measurements. Samsung’s December 1, 2025 announcement also lists a customized Snapdragon 8 Elite Mobile Platform for Galaxy, a 200 MP main camera, and a 5,600 mAh three-cell battery. All of those figures apply to the first-generation device.

Samsung’s 2026 first-quarter interim report specifies a 9.96-inch foldable OLED with 1,584 × 2,160 resolution and dates the Galaxy Z TriFold OLED project to December 2025. The 9.96-inch panel figure and Samsung’s rounded 10-inch product description are different ways the company documents the original display, not evidence of a second model. Samsung’s 2026 first-quarter interim report provides the panel documentation.
Why the design is compelling—and what remains unproven
A phone that opens into a larger workspace
Samsung says the large display supports multi-window use, including three portrait-oriented apps side by side. That gives the TriFold a clear productivity proposition: more room to view and use several apps without carrying a separate tablet. It does not, by itself, show that the device is faster, more useful, or a better value than a tablet or another foldable in everyday use.

Inward-folding protection is a design rationale, not a durability result
Samsung says the inward-folding design is intended to protect the main display. Its announcement also says that opening the device incorrectly triggers on-screen alerts and vibration. Those details describe the manufacturer’s design and safeguards; they are not independent durability-test findings. The cited Samsung sources provide no independent long-term test, failure rate, or comparative durability result.

Samsung CEO, President, and Device eXperience Division Head TM Roh said the TriFold “solves one of the mobile industry’s longest-standing challenges – delivering the perfect balance between portability, premium performance and productivity all in one device.” That is Samsung’s promotional characterization. The cited specifications and announcement do not independently establish a perfect balance or prove that foldable design has been mastered.

What buyers should check
Because Samsung’s U.S. page calls the limited-run original completely sold out, availability needs to be checked at the point of purchase. The page does not settle stock from third-party sellers or availability in other regions. Samsung’s U.S. Galaxy Z TriFold product page is the reference for its current U.S. listing status.
