To turn off a responsive Samsung Galaxy Tab S8, hold the Side/Power button and Volume Down together until the power menu appears. Tap Power off, then tap it again to confirm. You can also use the Power icon in Quick Settings. If the tablet is frozen, use the button combination to force a restart instead; that turns the device off and back on rather than leaving it shut down.

If the tablet is frozen or will not turn off
A force restart is for an unresponsive tablet. It restarts the device; it does not leave it powered off.

- If the tablet does not respond, Samsung’s U.S. troubleshooting guidance says shutdown in a frozen state may take up to 60 seconds. Keep holding the buttons while it completes the restart. Samsung U.S.: Galaxy phone or tablet will not turn off
- If Maintenance Boot Mode appears, use the volume buttons to select Normal Boot, then confirm with the Power or Bixby button.
- If it still will not turn off, Samsung directs users to request service.
If freezes keep happening
Recurring freezes are separate from an ordinary shutdown. Samsung UK recommends checking for software updates and investigating whether a particular app is causing the problem. Samsung Members diagnostics and service options are also available through its support guidance.
